For those getting into Home Automation here is another deal on the Meross mini-plug with Prime Day Sales. Note these are the overhauled mini-Wifi plugs which are significantly smaller than the old model. They're about half the size and can be double stacked next to each other and don't block any power points which is a huge win.

I've been running mine for a number of months now and they've been running great this winter for managing my heaters in various rooms to keep my power bill down. Also fantastic for keeping an eye on energy usage for things like my drier/EV charger and seeing when they're done via the APP.

For those getting into automation note this is the normal Wifi plug but there is Matter plug too for HomeKit users. It's a little more but has native Matter support support for those who want it.

Been running these for a month with Home Assistant automations - no issues so far. Much smaller than my existing Meross plugs.
    Fantastic value.

    • +1

yeah these are a godsend. very cheap per unit, excellent HA-compatibility (meross LAN), and you can fit two of them side by side on a standard outlet.

  • +1

Be nice if they put the Matter version on sale. Seems to be OOS on the Meross Shop on Aliexpress.

    • +1

Yep hopefully soon! It's a new product and quite popular so I imagine there's demand. I'm in the same boat wanting to pick up some more. Fingers crossed!

  • This 4 Pack is better value - $12.25 per Unit

This 2 Pack is $14.80 per unit.

    • +1

Yep agree, but not everyone is after the 4 pack to dip their toes in. $15 is a great price point for a respected mini plug so I thought people would be interested without having to commit to 4.

      • Yeah it is. Its on par with the $15 Arlec ones from Bunnings.

All Tuya Compatible as well, so can mix and match stuff.

        • +2

Arlec uses bad caps though and mine started clicking around the 1-year mark

          • @MuddyRubber: Clicking - randomly, not just when turning on/off?

        • +1

Personally I would avoid Arlec. They're usually whitelabelled Tuya and have issues over time, especially with heat or high load. I've found meross has been rock solid for me so far. I use them on heaters/washing machine and haven't had any issues even with sustained load.

          • @JSONBourne: I'm yet to have issues with them. I had problems with the Tapo brand (mainly available from Big W), and they were rubbish failing after 6 months. I've replaced them with Arlec and haven't had any issues with them so far.

            • @geekcohen: Interesting, see how you go! I’ve had a few hit or miss with Arlec, including a commenter below. Hopefully it goes ok though!

  • Does anyone have experience with these on a SmartThings system? Not sure if it's better to get the basic wifi plugs, or go for the matter version?

    • If you have SmartThings they will integrate natively. But if you go Matter then it will theoretically work cross eco-systems and they are more future proof to platform changes. Depends on your setup!

      • +1

Too easy - thanks! I'm trying to move away from old devices that sit on individual wifi addresses (and need the internet to function) and are instead integrated directly with my ST hub for better control and reliability. Sounds like these could be a good option.

        • Yep definitely a good mix! You can always pickup 1 or 2 and see how they go, and invest more if they're working for you.

  • no more merros for me, 2x failed simultaneously after 3years of usage

    • Was this with the larger model? This was discussed in the last deal but it was due to a capacitor failure due to a vendor issue that was there for a few months. If you reach out to support you can potentially get them swapped depending on the purchase date.

      • yes correct, i have contact them but they wouldn't do anything unfortunately as it has been out of warranty.

        • +1

Ahh I'm sorry to hear that. I know they were doing swaps for new units when it happened. I've heard the newer ones worked without issue. Hopefully if you try them again there will be no issue.

      • i have since swapped over to ikeas smart plugs, they are not too bad actually, just need zigbee

  • does this work with the hue ecosystem? I havent had the time to set up HA.

    • Does the Hue hub support HomeKit or Matter?

      • looks like both - https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeKit/comments/18luu60/philips_hu…

so i assume i'd have to get this - https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0DPMR35HW?th=1

Like many others, >50% of my Tuya plugs have had the clicking sound and I need something more reliable. I'm also in the process of removing all my smart lights/plugs off of the cloud.

        • Yep definitely invest in matter devices then if your hub supports it. Much more cross platform and robust for the future.

I can vouch for the matter mini version of this plug. I have it working via HA reporting energy consumption of my heater and performing automations on some appliances and it’s been great. Very responsive.

          • +1

@JSONBourne: Single matter one is $25.99 with coupon + 5% off with pay to. Might buy one to give it a go. Got a couple other products in cart to take advantage of 5% off

          • @JSONBourne: can monitor energy on another app or is it only available in the meross app? i have so many of these smart apps…

            • +1

@cheap4321: If you get the matter variant it's cross app which is the beauty of it. The normal versions however are just in meross. I recommend investing in Matter going forward as it means all brand will work with each other.

You'll need a matter hub though to sync all your matter devices (ie. meross hub, Apple TV etc).

  • I want to get a smart thermometer to be able to see the temperature in a room in my house. Why do all the temperature sensors seem to require a proprietary hub, and can't be standalone?
    E.g. this one https://amzn.asia/d/eR13Xva

    • The hub is basically what makes all your sensors internet connected. So that when you’re away from home you can still get values.

Also sensors usually are only Bluetooth which makes the range limited. The hub enables you to get readings anywhere.

I own that sensor and it’s fantastic with the hub. If you get the matter hub you can use any brand of sensor as long as it supports matter. So definitely worth the investment!
