Damn, bought it for $22 3-4 years ago from amazon

I actually have this book. Maybe I should knock it out on eBay to make some cash.

    • +5

every Tintin deal someone has to mention Tintin in Congo lol

    • You should read Italian comics

      • Which ones? Keen

Bro Dylan Dog is this amazing horror comic about a bloke that investigates hauntings with his Butler. There was a film called delamorte delamore with Rupert Everett that was based on one of the comics. It's equal parts terrifying and absurd. You want the ones written by the first author which is the first 75 big European issues, it's translated on one of the big comic sites.

See how you go with this

How come you can't buy Tintin in the Congo but you can still get Asterix and Cleopatra?

      • +3

I suggest you listen to the recent The Rest is History podcast series on the subject to get an idea of why this book is controversial. Also read The Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad - one of the best books ever written. Fun fact - Apocalypse Now is based on it.

I think we were forced to read part of that book back in school for VCE (HSC).

            @MrZ: It's some book

        • +5

It's a brutal part of history but the soft banning was based on a few frames where Tintin referred to a native as not looking very bright. Karen's working for the department of education trying to ban things is nothing new sadly

@Donmega123: I agree. Overall the book is pretty much standard Tintin fare. Unfortunately, we live in times where literature cannot be seen in the context of its time but has to be judged by the standards of today

@R4: The cartoon is really good and improves gently on the comics at times

        • @R4 and one of the best movies ever made. 👍

        • Do you know which episode? I just took a look at their most recent ones, and it's not super clear which one you mean.

    • -1

It’s literally in the deal description.

  • Plenty of tin tin in the Congo at the shop in Belgium.

Hmnn trying I think what I can do with this information

    • Just recognised your username. That was such a good game

  • Wasn't the set for $199 a couple of years back? How does the price keep going down?

      ten thousand thundering typhoons!

  • Is one better off getting hardcover? https://www.amazon.com.au/Adventures-Tintin-1-8-Herge/dp/031… $144.99

    • +6

That’s actually smaller than the paperback so expect the font size to be tiny. Nothing like the large format hardbacks you used to borrow from the library. It also doesn’t include Congo despite the description claiming “all 23 of the original Tintin adventures are available” so poo on that.

      • Thank you!

    • +1

The single hardcover folios are great, they are about twenty bucks each on Amazon and they are slightly oversized so more forgiving on eyes.

  • +1

What’s that Snowy, Costco deal was better

    • +1

      Was it the same edition?

  • +1

    Great Snakes!

Watch out the print quality is highly variable, the quality difference is noticeable even between books in the same set.

    • Thanks. Was going to buy for my nephews, but will look into that first.

  • Where on Earth is Tintin in the Congo? Is it not included?
