Wish they did the air purifier like Dyson did… about the same shape and size as well… LOL

    • you mean you want Harman air purifier?? šŸ¤” or Dyson Soundsticks?? same thing I guess.

      • Dyson got an air purifier headphone but darn heavy to wear over 15 minutes, if Harman speaker built-in air purifier can easily tell wife I'm buying an air purifier with sounds function to blow the dust away…

          hmmm šŸ¤”

Oh man the sound sticks bring back so many memories when they first came out. Aesthetically there is just nothing like it and I am glad they are still available.

Wiki has a history of the speakers - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SoundSticks

    • +3

Glad they brought it back. I still have the Soundstick wireless (not in use though) but they were amazing.

I had the zepplin. Ipod. It sounded so damn good. Only got rid of it because it was the old iphone ipod connection.

Still using mine from this deal for my desktop - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/125144

      • +1

        Wow, what a great price!

        • Just saw they go for $300 on the used market! Must be all the gen z kids experiencing anemoia for the early 00s design aesthetic.

          • +1

@Cheaplikethebird: Haha yeah - they don't tend to sell in the $300's despite being advertised for that much, but they still regularly go for between $100 - 150 depending on the condition. I've managed to pick up a couple of sets for about $60-70, been very happy with them.

            • @poppingtags: Yeah I had to glue the case back together on one of the speakers so I dont think anyone is paying decent money for mine, not noticeable unless up close though. If you've got a few sets then you must a pro at shaking dead flies out of the sub by now.

    • +1

The originals are so much nicer looking! Wish they'd kept the iconic design.

  • +2

    If $99 ill bite one…

  • Are the sound sticks 199 or 249? Shows 249 to me? I’ll bite at 199.

  • +1

Jonny Ives iSub design from 1999

    • You mean Dyson DC10 design 1993 and the Gameboy "Play it loud" design from 1995? Jony Ive took some inspiration when creating his designs with Harmon Karmon, this model is an evolution of the original iSub from 1999. It doesn't have the tube in the centre or you being able to see through the base.

    Bluetooth 4.2 … yikes!

Love my SoundSticks… they’re old as hell and still chugging along. Wouldn’t hesitate if I needed a new pair. The fact that they’re super ā€œaestheticā€ is just an added bonus!

  • +5

Used to want the Soundsticks cause they were quite interesting design-wise, but they're a bit dated now. I do miss my Altec Lansing mx6021 from that era though. That was a beautiful set of speakers.

    • I am still rocking my MX5021s lol. Not sure what to replace them with

      • Harman Kardon gla55

    • +1

My dude, MX6021 was a beast. Can’t believe how clear the sound and staging they produced from those thin speakers!!

      • That sub was serious business! I used to love the control dial too. Shame the sub died and I had no knowledge on how to fix it (think it was probably just a blown fuse).

Swapped over to the less powerful Edifier S330D after and it was never the same. If I could find a working set, I'd purchase the MX6021 again in a heartbeat. I did see a pair of FX2020 on eBay for $50 though…

  • Tried to buy the Soundsticks but they seem undeliverable to a Tasmanian address.

    • +5

Tasmania? These will need electricity, mate.

      šŸ˜‹

  • Loos like the styling was inspired by the lost in space robot.

    • +1

      Danger, Will Robinson!

  • Shame it has no battery. I'll stick with my Onyx 6 for now.

Sound sticks look and sound very phallic

    • +5

      How does one sound phallic

      • Speakers go boom boom boom.

    • yes I agree. and fyi I shared in a old comment how I thought it was funnyhow manly men apparently don't buy phallic shaped products.

I posted I think the UE Boom 3 once, and a user left a angry comment saying "it's shaped like a cock I'm not buying it!!" (paraphrasing).

I was going to point out how most BT speakers in this range are shaped like a tube, but just thought it was better to not respond. šŸ˜‚

  • This one here has them both beat by a wide margin.

    https://www.binglee.com.au/products/hk-onyx-studio-8-bt-spke…

    • +3

That has 50w RMS. What am I missing here?

      • that one is portable, this one in deal isnt.

        • I know, but that hardly qualifies for the statement of ā€˜beat by a wide margin’

          • +1

@zubzub: idk sorry I thought you were interested in both and wanted to know what you were missing (deal breaker).

fyi the battery in the Onyx Studio is tiny, it's like 2800mAh for such a big speaker it's seriously small.

so when on battery it's more like 30W~35W speaker, and it has deep bass but doesn't get that loud, so playing at max volume you will get under an hour of music. Onyx really is an indoor speaker. some even just keep it plugged into the wall to get the 50W and don't worry about charging.

Nice deal on the Sound Sticks. Only bought the black version a couple months back from Bing Lee for $395 to replace the first gen Sound Sticks that lasted 20+ years. Great desktop option if you have the space and it has a big/thick sound output. Only thing I do miss is the original bass toggle from the original version though.

    OOS

  • Damn thought I can finally pull the plug for Aura and it went OOS

  • Can't get better sound than this for $250

  • Looks good, but its probably where it ends.

  • Is the soundsticks deal only for whites? I'd buy immediately if it were blacks. Thanks!

    • +2

We don't practice segregation in this country any more

  • looks a bit thin transparent plasticky for $199. or is it made of glass??

  • +2

Thanks. I've wanted soundsticks since I was little but couldn't justify them.

With having just gone WFH and having a $100 Amazon Giftcard in… $149 soundsticks sounds great.

  • it won't post to me in regional victoria, which is annoying. i've noticed alot of items won't post here lately, which kind of defeats the purpose of why i subscribed to prime
