Good price but always no school holiday periods hahaah

    • +1

So just take them out of school for a week like what everyone else does

      • +27

Screw that I'm going, they can fend for themselves

    • Did Osaka return for 750 with Jetstar last year in the Sept/Oct School hols (with emergency row + starter plus upgrade so meal included).

      Was an absolute steal.

      • How far in advance did you book? What was the originating airport?

        • +1

It wasn't too far in advance, booked August for October. Was one of those JETSTAR FLY RETURN FREE sales they have and yeah the sale for some reason lined up in the holiday break. Adelaide to Osaka. 3 hour layer over in Cairns. Left 6 am, and arrived 7pm same day in Osaka. Really nice transit if I'm being completely honest. Only crap thing was having to rush back to Osaka from Tokyo on the last day and running into issues with the express train (self inflicted ticket issue). But other than that moment of panic, would happily fly with them again on that route.

Good prices but my main issue is the layover!

Would much prefer going up to Brisbane and having the direct 9 hour flight from there from Jetstar/a few others.

    • Is it possible to have the layover a few days?

  • +5

A 10 hour layover is a joke, you can get direct flights for this price all the time

    • +2

10 hour layover in Singapore is ok, as long as it's not something silly like 11PM arrival and 9AM departure next day.

      • +3

Yeah I had a overnight layover 2 months ago in Singapore… was a horrible experience without a bed to sleep in would never do again

        • +7

I'm too old to sleep rough in an airport so I would need to pay for a hotel room. At that point, a more expensive direct flight would likely have cost less in total.

Arriving in Singapore in the morning and leaving in late afternoon or evening though? Happy to do that.

          • @ddhar: To be fair, the accommodation they do have there is pretty top tier. If you book in advance you can get a decent room pretty cheap. And if you're stupid like me and try to do an insane layover on the way back when you're absolutely dead from Europe, you can front a last minute booking that costs an arm and a leg for 8 hours in a very nice room (note, although I wish I had pre booked something, that bed was the comfiest sleep I've ever had with zero regrets).

            • @Ruddaga: It's not the accommodation options that is the issue. It's the time available during transit. Many of these flights (the ones leaving Sydney anyway) arrive into Singapore around midnight and leave for Osaka the next morning (or 2PM latest). Not much time left to do stuff aside from walking around a bit, having breakfast at a hawker center and then rushing off to the airport.

              • @ddhar: Yep I was lucky to be able to have lounge access there which made it a little better but I am never attempting to sleep even in a lounge like that without a bed. Was a really bad experience :/ Though I do not regret trying it some people can do it just fine and I would have never known if I didnt try

Don't know why you are getting negged. I just got back from Osaka and we paid less than $300 return for direct flights. Sure, it was with Jetstar, but the flight wasn't bad at all, and definitely preferable to having a big layover and spending an additional 5+ hours in the air.

    • The layovers are between 1hr 10 mins and 2 hrs 30 mins for the various dates I searched.

  • +1

    Nothing in December? 😕

    • +2

      You seriously expected December sales?

      • -1

Yes, before the school holidays start.

    • Yeah i feel you

  • For 5:50am flight at Melbourne. How early do you think we need to be there? Don’t wanna be sitting there for 2 hours before a 12hours flight.

    • +1

Arrival 2 hours before departure is the shortest I’d cut it and I travel solo, carry-on only and have prio check-in. I hate waiting around too and cut it as close as I can but I’d rather have a little leeway for busy customs and check-in problems than be stressed and hoping everything lines up.

      Domestic 1h under same conditions.

  • Any business class deals @IWantThatFlight

  • As a one-bagger I'd much prefer to fly direct with Jetstar for $370 return in the "get return fare for free" sale

  • In November, I will fly to Osaka with JQ and return from Tokyo with QF.

It saves having to return to Osaka to catch the return flight.
