Was looking for an affordable long-term entertainment / uni laptop (good display, chip, battery, and upgradeabliity), and stumbled across this thing. Looks like the best thing on the market rn with my criteria. First real post btw, so pointers i'd appreciate
The price comes from a July sale (no student discounts unfortunately) on this specific model(no changes to RAM, storage) plus extra code 'ANAC4725' for another $68.95 off (found off a quick google)

Laptop costs $1,292.98 after discount. $17.07 non-removable 1YR Onsite upgrade from 1YR Courier/Carry-in automatically added to cart.

Also 15% cashback from TopCashback AU for 15 July only.

NOTE:

  • The panel details seem to differ between pages, showing either 'HDR 600 True Black' or 'HDR True Black 1000', but looking at the VESA certified devices list (on their website) the model (Ideapad Slim 516AKP10) indicates its True Black 1000 capable (on that list + not on the 600 list). I'm guessing Lenovo's trying to throw off budget buyers / redirect them to the pro models (having the same certification, and panel too probably)
  • 2 SODIMM slots(quoted max of 32GB, but I'll try to test more when mine arrives), 2 NVME m.2 slots, and bigger battery replacement options (up to 80Whr seems like), so crazy upgradeability for a 2025 laptop.

On-page spec:

  • AMD Ryzen™ AI 7 350 Processor (2.00 GHz up to 5.00 GHz)
  • Operating System
  • Windows 11 Home 64

Looks like the panel is only 2nd to the tandem OLED on the new pro 9i, otherwise others on the online store are either the same or IPS panels

  • Does topcashback work with these codes? thanks

    • +3

Yes. OP should update description. Great deal with the 15% back.

You can see my post with other users confirming the cashback works https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/912104

ANAC4725 is generated from Lenovo email promos so it should fall under all terms and conditions.

Great deal with the 15% cashback
32gb ram (+$100) and 1tb storage (+$60) upgrades are decently priced as well if you can't be bothered doing it yourself

I bought one for a colleague with the above upgrades, 2 yr premium onsite support and battery replacement - $1342.15 after cashback

    Cashback tracked @ $236.99

how long did it take to track on topcashback

      edit: less than 1 hour

  • I've seen on marketplace older models 2nd hand from 500-800 with 16G ram and 512 SDD, worth to get 2nd hand or just better with the new one of you are on budget?

    • Probably worth it to get a brand new one because of the warranty and you may claim tax on it.

    • people online said newer one has new chassis, older one had hinge problems.

Worth checking out Lenovo Outlet store for certified refurbished, you still get 1 year manufacturer warranty instead of rolling the die on 2nd-hand market:
      https://www.lenovo.com/au/outlet/en/laptops/?sortBy=priceUp

      • What's the general quality of the refurbished products? Are they scratch and dent or like new?

        • Bought a couple of Lenovo Outlet stuff so far: a Thinkpad Edge like a decade ago (new sealed in box, no sign of use whatsoever) and recently a Legion Go Z1E (no screen protect sticker but screen is still clean, like new otherwise).

      • Refurbished ones don't seem to have upgradable options?

        • Yeah, no upgrades and no extended warranty.

    • Grab it 2nd hand and meet the person at their address. Test when you pick up and if you have issues in the first couple days just rock up and ask for your cash back. If all is good, bob's your uncle

If you want a smaller one,14 inch version is from $1053.55 with mentioned code from OP:

    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/configurator/cto/index.html?bun…

    Upgrade to AI 350 + $50
    Upgrade to OLED + $80

    • I do want a smaller one! Thanks!

      • I grabbed the Ryzen 350 with the 500nit screen, and pro not slim, version with the much larger battery. I get about 5-6 or so hours of full brightness office-type work (emails, light Excel, word docs).

The size is great, depends on your need for battery life.

upgrading to 32gig isn't too bad either $100.

  • how this compare with the intel version ultra 7 255h? thanks

  • +1

good deal for a photo video editing rig if you don't want Apple silicon or need windows

Lenovo very rarely drops below $2k for a high res OLED 16 inchers

1800p isn't super high resolution however, MBP 16 has 2234, but hey this one is OLED

plus memory and storage is upgradeable here, as opposed to paying double for Apple to bump up storage and RAM

  • +3

You had me at 2xSODIMM slots

  • I'd be interested to know whether it can be upgraded beyond 32GB. Pity Lenovo don't sell the 80W variant in this country.

    • +2

someone on reddit said yes. and i got the 64gb kit so i'll test it out

    • +3

I installed 64gb and it works without issues.

      • Thanks very much for doing that. I don't know of any other PC in the same price range with an as bright screen and replaceable RAM. How do you and other people find the build quality? How do these compare to (cheaper) Thinkpads?

        • +1

Build quality is fantastic, super solid. I even dropped it this morning on some carpet and no damage and works just fine. It's a bit heavy due to the full aluminum case.

      • +1

Thanks for confirming! i didn't get the ram upgrade just for this

  • Thanks OP. Bought one. I wonder if cashback will still work if the laptop was purchased with the coupon code ANAC4725.

    • Ah, GrumpyGandalf has already addressed this above :-)

      • Can anyone else confirm if using the ANAC4725 code will work for the cashback? I want to avoid an email in the future when they do their payment processing saying that my tracked cashback has been invalidated.

        • I can confirm it tracked with that code used.

  • +2

    TCB tracked in 16mins.

  • lenovo takes forever to ship the order

  • Nice, shame they downgraded the igpu this gen and added the useless NPU instead.

    • What was the igpu previously?

      • 780m 12 cores vs 860m 8 cores

  • Ideapad pro with 84Wh, 24GB 8000Mhz also available. https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-pro-s… shopback has 13% cashback now

    • What’s the difference apart from ram speed?

      • 40% bigger battery

  • My order shipped yesterday from the Orient via DHL express.

I was actually expecting it to take a few weeks to ship. I better jump on some vinyl wraps now.

    • If they're drop shipping I wonder why they don't have more configurations available for our region.

      • Because it'll make on-site premium support harder.

  • 15% cash back sound good!

  • Looks like promo code has expired

    Mine came today.

This display is beautiful, I honestly want to keep this for myself.

I’m impressed with the build quality of these Ideapad machines for the price point. I bought an Ideapad 16 pro (thanks ozb) for my giant oaf of a brother in law when he started uni 2 years ago and it’s holding up so well.

To think I used to buy top spec machines for 4-5k for myself but now happily use a Redmi Book Pro for less than half the price and don’t feel short changed.

    • My came today, screen is nice, but trackpad doesnt feel as smooth as my yoga slim pro, the yoga feelsl like glass? not sure if it is, this one is definitely plastic
