    Cracking deal

    • +10

      RRP was heavily OVERPRICED.

      • As usual you need to wait almost a year and by that time something else will be released.

I told myself will never buy a flagship over 1k

Still holding on pixel 8 pro $900 from 2 years ago. Good enough

Their RRP is a complete ripoff

  • +2

    Excellent price. I would've purchased this if I didn't get the P8P for $499.

    • +1

You can count on Telstra. Lol

    • +4

Sell it to me and buy this one :-)

  • +3

Come on P9Pro 512gb. Will they discount them eventually?

    • +1

Yes when Pixel 10 Pro comes out. Let's see! Perfect size with Pro features.

  • +17

Every year I think "this is the year I'm going to update to the latest and greatest Pixel", only to discover it's not all that much better than the year before, but next years Pixel will be awesome so I wait for that one…and the cycle continues.

Is waiting for the Pixel 10 and paying twice as much as the P9 really going to be worth it?

    • +6

Buy this now, keep the box sealed. Can always return it in 30 days

      • +1

P10 isn't meant to be announced until the 20th of next month though.

        • Rumours would be out but do a click and collect, 30 days start from the pickup date.

      • +1

Reviews on performance etc generally don't come out until 2 weeks after the announcement due to embargoes.

      • Can this actually be done? I'd prefer non xl model but dont want to miss out on this deal

    • Depends. You'll soon discover

    • +14

Wait another year and you can get the Pixel 10 at this price too

      • +3

And the Pixel 11 the year after.

        • +2

Or the pixel 20 if they copy Samsung.

      • That's my plan just skip 9 jump straight to 10.

Annual upgrades are not worth it.

    • The Pixels are known have incremental updates. Definitely not a phone you need to update yearly.

      • +6

As opposed to which brand? Do they not all have incremental updates at this point?

        • After having another look, it seems they're not as bad as they used to be.

    • +2

Just skip generations, I went from Pixel 7 Pro to Pixel 9 Pro XL, there really isnt much difference, could have skipped even more but I wrecked my screen so….

      • +10

I'm still on my 6 pro and don't feel like I'm missing out on that much. I'm sure I am, I just don't know what it is!

        • +1

Pixel 6 Pro gang here. I was waiting to update to pixel 10 but it is looking like it might not be that exciting.

My screen the pretty stuffed, so an considering buying this deal

        • Ditto for me too with the P6P. Just not sure if I go the XL. I'm thinking a smaller phone might be better in the pocket.

Anyone go small and have regrets?

      • +9

You just proved his point.. when is it worth upgrading? It's like getting a faster and faster latest spec PC just to open Reddit and Gmail… The benefits are so marginal for the use case. It only seems to be worth it when you break your old one.

      • Oh wow we're on opposite cycles hahah, I went from 6 Pro to 8 Pro

    • still using my Pixel 6 Pro, and it is still excellent.

    • think you've already answered your own question

    • +2

"this is the year I'm going to update to the latest and greatest Pixel"

Just update when you need to or when your current phone decides to hit the hay.

I think it's pretty pointless to wait on new phones for the hope of some radical new features. Most generational improvements are now quite incremental.

As an Android user primarily, I find it quite amusing that the biggest change to any smartphone lineup over the past few years is the move to USB-C with the iPhone 15 series, aside from that, everything else has been pretty boring.

    • +2

The 9 is easily the biggest jump in a long time. New fingerprint sensor, selfie cam etc, and unlike every other generation - no hardware issues for the first time. Finally feels like a true flagship.

The 10 looks identical to the 9, just a different processor. This is hell of a bargain imo.

    • It's never worth it because twice the price not the double the performance nor improvement

Based on this you should not upgrade every year. Every 2-3 years is more ideal

For me I upgraded from pixel 5 to 8 pro was worth it

  • Officeworks have the 512gb and 1tb models as "Online Only" - do OW allow price beat in that situation?

    • +1

YMMV but always worth an ask anyway especially if it's not out of your way.

    • You normally call their online customer service number and ask them for a price beat, they'll do it over the phone for you. Store employees can create online C&C orders for you on the register (useful if you want to pay with cash), and do the price beat for that order, but since that's a time-consuming process for the staff, most of the time they'll probably just tell you to place the order online by yourself.

  • +2

Should I pull the trigger or keep S23 Ultra?

    • +13

Keep S23 Ultra easily. Still supported and no significant [hardware] changes from S25 Ultra.

    • +7

      https://nanoreview.net/en/phone-compare/samsung-galaxy-s23-u…

If the display, camera, and connectivity are more important to you, then choose the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL. But if the gaming, battery life, software, and sound are more of a priority – go for the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra.

      • Imagine getting negged for this comment. Which halfwit negs factual information?

        • +2

          Apple user.

        • +4

I didn't neg you but that's not all factual but subjective. I choose Pixels over Galaxies primarily because of software.

        • -1

Theres always Pixel users who get butthurt when you tell them that you wouldn't choose Google for software over Samsung.

      • ROG phone is better for gaming too bad no real sales

    • Although Pixel 9 Pro XL was the best phone i've owned hands down, I always missed my S23 Ultra.

After 9 months owning the Pixel i had to start charging it mid day as it would die on me at evenings. If your S23 Ultra still has decent battery life, keep it :)

I sold my Pixel a month ago, and now contemplating if I should get back on the Pixel wagon. But my Vivo has superb battery life… decisions decisions…

  • +3

It doesn't look like the pixel 10 pros will be significantly better. I have one and its been solid and a nice change from the samsung notes and ultras. Totally worth 900 bucks for solid cameras and updates for years. Its plenty fast enough for most people and at this price, its a bargain for anyone who is on pay as you go plans.

    • +1

      How's the battery life?

      • I've had my xl since Jan. It's easily the worst part of the phone, by a long shot (for me at least).

I charge up to 80% to preserve the battery health but am kinda thinking i might stop doing that as i value battery life so much.

I sometimes need to charge towards 6pm but it's not a huge issue as i have a charger pretty much everywhere.

I'd consider myself a supremely average user: bit of chrome, bit of social scrolling, emails etc.

On the odd occasion I'll play some balatro, but that isn't factored into the multiple charges a day (meaning it's totally fair to need to charge it if I play an hour of balatro).. but even then, feels like it should be possible without needed a charge.

I mean it's not like a super demanding game like call of duty or something.

Anyway, great phone other than the battery which is mediocre.

  • +3

That's a heck of a drop compared to how it was selling for only a week or two ago.

  • Nice. Just wish it included the non-xl models

    • +2

non-xl pro has $1700 off (or free for 128gb) with Telstra signup. You could get the 9 pro 128gb for $865 with cancellation of your service in the first month

      • How can we do this? Looks like a cost of $1698.84 on the website.

        • +1

scroll to the bottom of the page, should see an offer by JB Hi Fi mobile.

You must do this in store, OZB method is sign up 24 months plan and pay $99 first month fee upfront, get the phone (for “free”) and then cancel the plan within the first month and you will be invoiced $766 cancellation fee by Telstra. Cancellation Fee for these plans is $800. You will be invoiced for 23 months given the 1st month fee is paid upfront. So $800/24*23=$766.67+$99=$865

          • @primegrizzlybear: How does this differ between the 128gb ($0 with the 99$ plan) and the 256gb models ($1700 voucher with the 99$ plan)? Do you know what the cancellation fee is for the latter?

            • +1

              @ning: Same cancelation fee.
              1847-1700+99=246 upfront
              800/23*24=766 cancelation
              766+246=1,012 total
This 256gb XL deal is cheaper and less hassle than porting phone numbers/cancelation etc

  • +1

bloody hell, bought the 128GB P9P last JB deal for $1059 and did not open the box for two weeks hoping for a new sale to pop up. ended up opening it last Friday and started using it, cant return it now 😥

    • My exact thoughts, insane price crash, fortunately this deal is only $14 cheaper when I got the 256gb a couple or so months ago. Not as big of a loss :')

    • Dont they usually price match themselves within a month? Unsure but it's definitely worth asking JB

    • we have "designated driver", do we need "designated buyer"?
The one who buys, waits a little while then opens and starts using: to thus trigger a price drop….

    • Price protection on your credit card?

Worst case just ask JB HiFi? I've had a very nice staff member at the Chadstone store process it as a return, and repurchase, allowing me to pocket the difference when the price dropped on a different item I purchased (DJI drone).

      • yeh no price protect unfortunately. if the non XL price drops in the next week ill ask JB but then i'm flying out so ill at least get 10% back from TRS

  • hmm i kinda wanna switch from oneplus 12 to a pixel but im on the fence, maybe im just itching for something new lol

    • No reason to switch to the pixel if you care about CPU performance. Snapdragon 8 gen 3 (and even gen 2) outperforms the pixel's tensor g4.

Also if your OnePlus 12 is going to receive android 15 and 16, you're definitely better off skipping this and just wait for later generations.

      • yeah you right

    • +2

I'm the same with my Xiaomi lol, but they've spoilt me with 120w fast charging, and I just can't go back to sub 100w..

      • Pixels charge so slow compared to a OnePlus or Xiaomi

  • +2

Holding for tsmc tensor in p10, Samsung silicone sucks.

    • I just don't think it will give us anything worthwhile, battery life pretty good on these now do we need more performance probably not? Why upgrade?

      • Definitely battery life will be better, there a reason why apple, Qualcomm, mediately all using tsmc.

    • Samsung silicone sucks.

      Would you recommend Selly's instead?

  • I don't understand the point of the XL.

    https://nanoreview.net/en/phone-compare/google-pixel-9-pro-x…

    • Has a 0.5 inch larger screen size
    • 15% better performance in AnTuTu Benchmark (1292K versus 1125K)
    • Supports higher wattage charging (37W versus 27W)

Surely Google are taking the piss?

    • +4

      Bigger battery FTW.

      • -1

At the expense of a larger screen. Look at the battery life comparison.

        • hmm what do you mean at the expense of larger screen? It has bigger screen and better battery, what's the issue.

          • @CptnObvious: The battery life is not as good as the P9P according to Nano's test measurements.

    • +2

0.5 inches is a big difference for a phone.

      • Isn't it 0.5 diagonal?

        • What’s the unit?

        • If you're not convinced 0.5 inches is a big difference, imagine making the regular Pixel Pro 0.5inches smaller.

    • +1

Has a 0.5 inch larger screen size

This is why. The 9 Pro is a significantly smaller phone at 6.3". My minimum is 6.7" and the 9 Pro XL is 6.8" so I chose it. I am jealous that the latest Galaxy Ultra and iPhone Pro Max are 6.9" and I'm hoping Google matches them soon.

As for battery and charging, I don't care about comparing anymore since all of them are good enough to last me a day.

    • +2

I don't understand the point of the XL.

Literally all of the major phone manufacturers have a "large" and "small" size, which are around a 0.5in difference in size.

      E.g. iPhone 16 (6.1"), and iPhone 16 Plus (6.7") have a 0.6" difference, Galaxy S25 (6.2") and Galaxy S25+ (6.7") have a 0.5" difference.

Unless you are suggesting that you don't understand the point of a "large" and "small" size in general, which would be a ridiculous point to make given that often both sizes sell quite well and in large numbers, showing there's a market for both sizes.

      • -3

Yes, I realise that but have you looked at the battery life of the other manufacturers? They actually show a significant improvement over the "small" or "regular" size. If you're going to offer a larger option, at least learn how to incorporate better battery efficiency.

        • +1

You're changing the topic - the point of the "XL" is the larger display.

Battery life is broadly irrelevant. Pixel phones have never had great battery life, the Tensor G4 is an inefficient chip compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite, or the Apple A18 / A18 Pro.

If you want good battery life, buy a Galaxy.

    • lol funny you say that, from everything I've read since launch there's been far more complaints about the battery on the 9 pro than the XL.

If anything there's no use for the 9 pro when the 9 exists.

  • Either do I, Its only slightly bigger and faster. I bought the XL anyway as I like bigger

    • Do you mainly use one or two hands? It’s not too big to one hand these?

  • I still have the Pixel 7, wondering if it's worth the upgrade…

    • +2

      100%

    • Me too. Waiting for 10 Pro.

    • What are you looking for specifically from an upgrade? Bigger and brighter screen? Better audio? Bigger battery life? Your current phone feels slow? If yes to these, then it maybe worth it. Go to a store and have a play with a display model imo.

If you're after top gaming experience playing graphical intensive games, go for the Snapdragon 8 elite phones like the samsung s25 series. If you want good cameras in the mix comparable and might even be better than the pixel's - consider an s25 ultra.

      • Upgrading for content creation.

Pixel 6a is getting a bit long in the tooth and managing 128GB is a pain. Constantly moving 20GB of content over to an SSD.

USB-C port took a hit when dropped in a factory tour with a DJI Mic 2 receiver attached. Now I have it in a cold shoe mount to reduce strain on the USB port.

Samsung S2, Pixel, XL, 3a, 5, 6a… Samsung S25 sounds interesting but it could be a shock going to a custom Android.

        • The s25 supports recording log video if that's something you see value in. The video processing/editing will also be quicker in the s25 series.
My previous phone was a samsung s20fe and I prefer the camera/video interface vs the pixel's. More manual controls on the Samsung camera app.

          • @jazzpdp: I ended up getting the Pixel 9 Pro XL.

The Camera app struggles to pick a microphone and sometimes puts all audio from the front in the right ear and audio from the back in the left ear. Recording in mono is probably a good workaround, or edit every video before uploading and fix the audio.

If there's mostly audio from the back then it records to left and right. So it's only happening sometimes (consistently if two audio sources).

Other than that, it's good to have a USB-C port that works. Feels like an incremental update over the Pixel 6A.

    • I had Pixel 7 Pro, which was an excellent phone, but 9 Pro XL is even better :)

      • I have exactly the same, but honestly - theres not much of a difference in experience at all between them

    • I've got the 7 too.

      It's kinda.. fine.

I did use another phone last night and it felt really smooooooth though. Made me consider the upgrade.

Still not sure. Prob have another year in it I guess - eventually the battery life will get a bit crap I suppose.

  • Still have my Samsung S20FE going strong. Tempting deal though.
