Seems like a pretty cracking deal. I know the M4 is the craze right now, considering I'm still using an M1 (16GB) for my primary work machine and I love it dearly this M3 will still be an absolute beast.

Always HODL. M1 to M4 is a great upgrade. M1 to M3 not really. But M1 to M5 should be a no-brainer IF M5 is as big of an improvement as M4 was, which given the chip cycles, might not be the case this time around. Ergo, maybe M6.
Colleague of mine just got an M4 I did some side by side comparisons and there really is barely any difference. If anything I'd say the M1 runs cooler and doesn't have that stupid notch. I can ask for a new M4 at any time but don't see the point.
Lol that's a use case issue then. All benchmarks (single and multi) show drastic improvements of M4 over M1. If all you're doing is browsing the internet and watching Netflix, then yeah you won't see any tangible difference. I went from M1 to M4 MBA and it's 100% snappier. I do development, video editing, and some local machine learning/AI.
@marshmall0w2: Very true, I'm a Project Manager in IT so my use case frankly mirrors casual use. Emails, video calls, spreadsheets and plenty of time in the browser.
I have a M4 base pro for work and a M1 Max on my personal.. the M4 absolutely smokes the M1 Max on Xcode builds.. its like 200% faster
short answer is no
for a daily this is already more than one actually needs. for office use, web browsing and Netflix/YT, it's more than capable.
unless you'd like to impress someone that you have latest and greatest. or you're doing advanced things on your laptop.just pron, and maybe pron video editing.
Still rocking an M1 and it's still holding up well, so probably no need to HODL.

I'm half tempted only because I feel like I need a laptop but I'm hopeful the m4 will drop in price soon as the perk of an ultra wide split in 2 with the Mac as a third screen would be something I use.
JB have a sht load of refurbs on sale. great prices too.
i would highly recommend them. my m2 pro i bought a year ago is flawless.

Just get a displaylink dock, I use one with my M1, works perfectly for driving 2 external monitors and keeping the lid open.

Also keep in mind that using multiple displays with M4 isn't just a case of plug and play, especially if you just want to use one cable. Only works with particular docks and usually the most expensive Thunderbolt ones. It still isn't as simple as doing so on a Windows machine unfortunately.
@LanceVance: This is right i believe each monitor needs to be connected to a different port. So two drive two monitors you need macsafe as you will have both holes stuffed ;)
@Bluto Mindpretzel: Unless you buy a Caldigit or some other dock that are approxing the $500 mark. Whereas you can use a displaylink dock for essentially the same result for less than half the price.
Going on a long term Europe trip and thinking of marketplacing my m4 max, and downgrading to this.
I do a lot of programming, but this would probably suit, and not take up all my carry on capacity.
Insane value, I paid slightly more for the 16gb ram and 512gb storage just before the M4 release and thought it was a good deal.
