Switch from Existing Spotify Premium Family Plan to Basic Family Plan for $20.99/Month, Save $3/Month (Save $36/Year) @ Spotify

4230

As a Spotify Premium Family $23.99/month subscriber, I was looking at the available plans and discovered Basic Family which is exactly the same, without the 15 hours per month Audio Books access, which I never use anyway and is $3 cheaper at $20.99 a month. I promptly made the switch and the change will occur on my next billing cycle.

So I thought I'd share this to other subscribers who may not use Audio Books and want to save $36 a year!

Update: going by the comments on this deal, it appears Basic Family can only be seen and switched to by existing Spotify Premium Family subscribers or may be targeted to certain users ?

How to switch between Spotify Plans:

  1. Log in: Go to the Spotify website and log in to your account.
  2. Access Account Settings: Navigate to your account page.
  3. Manage your plan: Look for the "Manage your plan" or "Subscription" section, and click on "Change plan".
  4. Select your new plan: Browse the available options and choose the plan you want to switch to. This could be a different premium plan (like Duo or Family), or a downgrade to the Basic plan.
  5. Confirm and finalize: Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm your selection. Spotify will guide you through the process, which may include confirming your payment details or verifying your eligibility for certain plans.

  • I pay $3.08 per month for Premium Duo (Spotify: Music and Podcasts) via Turkey ($1.50 per account for me and my partner).

    • how did you get cheap duo? I was reading through previous spotify threads and i thought they caught on with the known methods.

      • Since Aug 2023. Using the above OzBargain Turkey link, but I see it's expired. I have retained it. Paid using my Up Bank account

oh wow thanks for this, I never used the bloody audiobook hours anyway

  • +1

    Thank you!

  • I would normally say get xManager for those on Android but fcuk Spotify. Install YouTube Music Premium instead. The playlists are nowhere near as good but it's something.

    • +2

xManager hasn't worked for yonks. Revanced devs have been doing their best but it's turned into a game of whackamole between them and the spotify devs.

      • Spent two months trying to live with ReVanced YouTube Music but damn it's a mess coming from years of Spotify.

Given up on podcasts, it doesn't remember the resume position. Going back to PocketCasts for that.

Don't really want to give Spotify money any more, not even rupees.

I didnt even know were getting audiobooks haha nice saving brings it closer to the old price

  • does spotify support dolby atmos?

  • It wasn’t available for me so I modified part of the URL query from family-master to family-basic and got the following statement:

Sorry, you are not eligible for that plan. Here are some other ways to get Premium.

  • I can't see this at all. Strange.

If any one has extra spots for this cheap family plan let me know lol

  • +1

    Worked for me. Thanks OP

  • Doesn’t require VPN, odd

  • +1

    thanks for this, great post.

  • unfortunately, not available in the philippines. looks like im stuck paying $6/month for premium family…scammers.

  • No option for Basic Family for me???

  • +1

Thanks OP. My daughter loves audiobooks but found the 15 "free" hours pretty much useless so no real loss there anyhow.

  • +2

Thank you! I've only listened to one Audiobook many many years ago! $3 a month is $3 a month!

  • +6

I changed mine to Basic Family just now thanks.

They could describe these options a bit better IMO. It reads as though the 6 linked accounts are now "basic" instead of "premium" with no explanation of what that means. You have to google that, end up on the spotify forum where staff members clarify that there is no difference.

Nice! Thanks @drezy - had no idea I was paying for the privilege, with no point.

  • +1

Awesome, thank you so much for this!

  • What's the difference between:

    • Premium Family - Up to 6 Premium or Kids accounts
    • Basic Family - Up to 6 Basic accounts

When only the Plan manager received the AudioBooks anyways.

    edit: thanks vorsprung

    • Also had same question! I have kids (<6) so the feature didn't seem worth it for me as I don't use audiobooks either.

  • +1

Thanks for sharing, didn't even know about the audiobook hours

  • +1

Thanks for this. Nobody in my house uses the audiobooks and funnily enough Spotify never told me there was a cheaper plan. We pay for alot of streaming so every dollar back helps a little, hahaha

  • +1

Excellent! The audiobooks was only available for the main user so was rather limited anyway. Thanks!

  • +1

Thank you OP - lifesaver! I also didn’t realise such a plan existed!

I went on Spotify chat to find out why I couldn't see any of the Basic plans:

To be able to subscribe Basic plan on Australia market, you need to be on active premium before May 9, 2024.
As checking on your account details, Premium subscription on Australia market started on 2024-10-17 so I'm sorry to let you know that your account is not eligible for Basic premium.

  • hmm, time to see what range of audiobooks they have.

  • +1

    Thank you OP!

  • +1

Nice one OP. Lost the audiobooks I never knew I had and gained $3 a month.

  • +1

If you are on a premium family plan make sure you LOG IN as the actual owner of the plan NOT as a family member as only the owner of the plan can make changes. I accidentally logged in with my family member email and I could see the premium plans but the basic family plan wasn't there. It was only when I realised i had NOT logged in as the account owner of the plan thenm, and then did, then I could see the $20 Family plan as an option.

    • I'm logged in as the owner and can't see the $20 family plan.

  • +1

Thanks, I never knew this. Massive help, thank you !

  • Spotify Revanced and Xmanager for the win!

  • Thank you! Just saved my $3 a month.

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Just switched over!

install brave browser on your phone allow background playback and watch (listen) to unlimited no ads music on youtube… stop paying for this cr@p!

      • -1

Might as well just sail the high seas instead tbh, if you're that worried about how much you spend on music.

I'm happy with the service Spotify provides, and pay the reasonable fee.

      • -3

yeah nah… i have no issues with playing it via Brave browser on my phone into my cars bluetooth audio.i do not pay for music… why would i want to spend $17 every month…f that!

          • -2

@G-Shock: ummm my brave browser blocks all ads on youtube… if that doesnt get ya then sure pay for you millionaire, but some of us dont have money to just waste on cr@p and it works perfectly fine in the background, i close the lid on my phone and it still plays, even works with google home and my car bluetooth infosystem so yea… stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

              • -2

@G-Shock: it runs in the background only when music/video is playing, you stop it it stops… clearly you are not technical so i will make it easy for you. you play, music plays, audio is heard. swipe and close the app closed and it stops playing. also who uses a TV with apps, get yourself a console like a PS5 or Xbox or even a chrome cast and cast your PC/mac or phone to it BAM. easy.

  • Interesting. The 15 free hours are only for the plan manager, not for member. Those are extra $15.99 per month per member. A rip off!

  • +1

Thanks OP, I had no idea the Spotify "Basic Family" plan existed… Just changed to it now! A saving is a saving :)

  • +1

Never knew about this! Changed plans, thanks for the saving OP!

I feel like Spotify owe me a $36+ refund for at least the last year or so of being sold something I didn't want or knew I was paying for!

  • +1

Wow, I didn't even know we had audiobooks on our account, nice one OP.

  • +1

Thanks for the heads-up. Saw this today, downgraded immediately. I can get a coffee every two months for free now!

  • Did Spotify just increase in price again?!? Their website says Family Premium is now $27.99 a month

    • Yeah must have just gone up :( But i cant seem to find any news about it - but good news seems its now a $7 saving per month! It's still showing as $20.99 for basic family for me.
