    Hey guys, I wonder if the Microsoft cashback is available for MSY. Under terms & conditions of the "double take" offer it states that:

    "To be eligible to claim the Cashback Offer Amount and enter the Experience of a Lifetime Promotion:
    (a) Purchase any one (1) or more Participating Products from a participating retailer during the Offer Period;"

    Does "participating retailer" include MSY and all others that sell microsoft products or is it only the shops listed on the Microsoft retailers website? http://www.microsoft.com/australia/buyit/retailer/default.ms…

        According to people in Harvey Norman they do not price match MSY prices.

        Dicksmith powerhouse was the only shop on the list that had the items I wanted to buy and they refused to price match saying things like it’s “below cost” and "if you didn't know how to use the mouse or the keyboard we'll show you how whereas MSY has no customer service at all".

        I can think of many but will refrain from writing sarcastic comments or rhetorical questions regarding the above statement.

        • Officeworks have no problem price matching (at least in Dee Why, Sydney).
          Just make sure that you
          1. bring the printout of the 3-day-special price list
          2. tell them a phone number to ring to check for price and stock availability
          3. tell them that MSY is a retail store, not an online store so that they will not try to add postage on top of MSY's price

          • @tg: My local Dick Smith stores aren't that bad.

            But then again MSY isn't very helpful either. Asking them whether a stick of RAM would run on a 3 year old machine was a question that stumped the guy I was talking to.

            In the end the answer was yes, it would, but that came from another independent computer store, and I bought the ram at that store as well. The guy I was talking to definitely knew what he was talking about.

    just back from MSY, they are not well prepared at first but it's OK now. Some of the stock has still not yet been unloaded, and they said more stock to come later. I've got mouse, webcam, 2GB G.Skill and 2GB Kingston DDR2.
    FYI, Kingston RAM DDR2 SODIMM is 667 not 800.

    • If the Kingston SODIMM was laptop memory then its 667.
      2GB for $28 is cheap.
      Would get one but my lappy only takes 1GB more.

    Just got back from MSY, there was no X6, X5 or mobile memory 8000 left. According to them new stock are expected at the end of the day after they close. So they will be available tomorrow morning.

    The line was really slow. Got there at 10:40 and was at the counter at 12:30.

    No, dicksmith refused to price match the MSY price. I'm not sure if they can do the normal prices on their list but the sales price at North Melb might have been just a little below "cost price" for dicksmith.

      Go to OW on alexander parade.

      I went past OW on the way to MSY and the sales assistant happily PM for the Microsoft mobile memory 8000. I got it there for $56.05 (after PM and 5% less).

      A+ for OW. Took credit card and flybuys.

      • In my past experience, Officework is more willing to price match (+ less 5%) than other competitors (Dicksmith, DJ, Myer, Hardly Normal, The Good Gals, etc).

        The nastiest Officework assistant I have met is to make me pay by cash - no credit card, no flybuy point - as MSY has credit card surcharge and does not give out flybuy point - but… that's really FAIR ENOUGH!!

        However, I did check on the OW website before going to MSY and they do not have the X5 mouse nor the X6 keyboard available at all. If I had not already reserved mine, I would drop by OW to price match.

          Haven't used it yet, I am not a gamer. my housemate is, was looking for the 7000 wireless keyboard and mouse sets,(I even ask the sales to open the new stock to check) but no luck…. the version they have is not what I want. But quite sure the x6 worth its price as it is very heavy keyboard set and had ajustable backlight. I just did some research on the promotion product. The biggest discount is Vx7000 webcam which RRP is $79 in other MSY store.

          To All:

            Step 1. Ask shop (either MSY North Melbourne or Officeworks) to separate the invoices into 3 items per invoice
            * You do NOT need to take your family members or friends to the shop

            Step 2. Ask your family members and friends to claim for you from Microsoft

          • @qdduo: I though they were selling the Wireless Desktop 7000 shown in the link above…but instead they were selling the Ergonomic Wireless Desktop 7000. Same RRP $179.95 and same cashback $45.

            In the end I got the keyboard set anyway ($46 bucks after cashback) and from what i can say so far…feels AWESOME!

            Well worth it for $46. LOL my old mouse cost more then this

            Also, to those of you who plan to buy the X6, X5 or other popular products, know that some people who were in the line today (including myself) reserved some (or most) of the stock coming in. So if you REALLY want to grab one I suggest bringing a sleeping bag and camp out till 10:30 :)

So bought for him, I was thinking of buying 2 as well. But North Melbourne is too far.

              To all ppl:Don't waste time calling, I know msy never taking calls unless you have manager's direct landline no. Going to the shop is the best way.
              And don't forget there is 2% surcharge on Credit Card. Today's Salesman is quite nice, but can't promoise he will be there tomorrow.

  • Just got back,worth going this time.Everyone who want mouse,would suggest go tomorrow morning as only the desktop combo pack was current unloaded to sell.

    To fufufu:
    They did have x6… just sold out,because I bought the last set. And the guys before me got 2sets per person.

    By the way, have to be careful with the parking, as there are 2 hours parking permits there, no one like a ticket when going out the store.

  • Anyone know if that printer is any good, even as a throwaway printer for some general printing?

    • As a general inkjet,ok,just the replacement catridge is too expensive, but as a throwaway printer, it worth that $15.

      You must have been one of the really early ones. I ended up waiting in line 1 hr 20 mins. Really annoyed because people who don't know what they should get or are not there for the specials should NOT go to MSY north melbourne. Luckily for me, they had the stock I wanted and the guy who served me wasn't strict on the max 2 same item per person limit.

    Interestingly, MSY encourages us to use "EMAIL" to confirm stock level.

    just an update for anyone who is after the Laptop DDR2 RAM or 4GB MicroSD card, MSY has NO MORE stock for these 2. So if you are after those 2 items and didn't have reserve before then don't bother to queue up anymore. They have a limited stock for the special. They will receive more later after the sales though.

      In my opinion, it's just a made-up reason so that he doesn't need to price match the ergonomic one's (they don't have the entertainment desktop 7000)

      I was going to ask him to call msy, but I think they won't pick up the phone :)

      So I ended up getting the laser 7000. Price match with MSY (normal price) which is $109 - 5%. It's down from around $199 :)

      • The entertainment 7000 is a bluetooth set,so if they say something like entertainment set,they just want to avoid the PM.

      • To Tinx again: I tried to get OW to pm the desktop 7000 but on the sale page it list the item as 'laser 7000' and the only one the OW has is the 'Ergonomic 7000'. Therefore its misleading what they are selling and OW won't price match it.

  • yes, he was completely fabricating (… or totally ignorant). First of all Officeworks (metro Melb stores) haven't re-stocked the "Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000" for a while (even though it’s still a current model) and neither has MSY. Second, when O’works did sell the "Entertainment Desktop 7000" they sold it for $80 more than the "Laser Desktop 7000" version (b/c it's bluetooth)- so his argument that MSY’s $91 more likely applied to the more expensive set rather than the cheaper set was even more nonsensical.

    Irrespective, it's a good deal either way.

    Hopefully u won't encounter the dreaded "slow blinking green to fast blinking red" charging problem that plagues many of the Laser 7000 series Mice.

  • just got back from ow to pricematch the 4gb kingston memory. ow well them for $102, in the end i paid $48.50 with 5% disc. it even cheaper than the regular price at msy which is about 62$. very happy

    Guys, just got back from MSY again. Picked up my reservation of x6, x5 and mobile memory 8000. When I nwas there 30min ago there were still 6 X6 keyboards left. Thats all I counted. There was a bit of a line but nowhere near as bad as the first day. Goodluck!

    • It's so tempting to get a X5 and X6 from MSY for $69 and $49.
      I'm not so worried about the X5 as its $53 normally but the retail is $99. Every retailer on staticice thats under $70 has the OEM version.
      The X6 is even worse. Retail is $149.95. Every retailer under $100 has OEM.
      Don't know what to think of MSY and their pricing.

  • today the queue is not very long maybe because most of the special items are sold out. I got the last 4GB SD card today. I saw about 6 of X6 keyboards left. Microsoft webcam VX500 and VX7000 are all sold out.
