It now shows ending 27th of July.

Excludes some new release titles, like Sinners.

Hmm why are DVDs still being sold after 28 years?

    • +6

For the same reason Blu-rays are being sold after 20 years - people buy them.

      • +12

@tattooedarchivist That reason would be that 1080p Blu-ray even after 19 years still provides the highest 1080p picture and audio quality that’s superior compared to 1080p content on streaming services, and 4K Blu-ray even after 9 years still provides the highest picture and audio quality that’s superior compared to 4K content on streaming services. And that’s not going to change anytime soon.

There’s also the physical media ownership aspect over paid downloads and renting from subscription streaming platforms, plus studios not being able to edit and censor the content on the disc after it’s released due to wokeness and cancel culture, and a fondness that some people have with being able to hold and touch physical media releases.

        • Not sure why you're telling me that streaming services suck. I posted this deal. I still own and buy physical media.

            • +3

@HuzzahIndeed: You responded to me, not MrZ, and included my username in your response, which is why I then responded to you.

Jeez, all because someone made a dumb comment about DVDs still being sold…

        • @HuzzahIndeed Awww Cevolution, you're back! We knew you couldn't stay away, even if it is under a new name. How's the box treating you… again 🤣

      • +2

Sometimes there is no other way than to watch it on DVD. Although 1080p Blu-ray is still the best and most economical value way to buy and watch. New 4K releases and players are still overpriced IMO.

I know my grandma lives somewhere where NBN ain't an option and alternates are expensive compared to buying a DVD.

Or my wife's grandma who can't operate Netflix but can a DVD.

    • +5

I sometimes buy DVDs just to complete the set, as in, I own the same movie in DVD, bluray, and 4K (even if the bluray disc edition comes with a DVD included), I like to buy all three separate editions as a collector. You also never know, in case of a nuclear future where the only electronic devices that survive are DVD players (blu rays players for some reason did not survive), the DVDs will come in handy.

      • +3

This is why I invest in flipbooks and ViewMaster discs

    • +6

Because some of us who have invested in the best TVs and sound systems and 4K players want the best picture and only through physical media do you get that. All streaming services that offer 4K is still heavily compressed.

And yes you can tell the difference. I put my then new 48 inch LGC2 (monitor, before moving it to the office) next to the 65" LG CX living room TV and put on several movies I had in 4K Bluray and were also available on streaming. There is a definite difference.

      • Re-read my comment. I asked "why are DVDs still being sold"

        • +2

Fair statement. I think many people never updated to Bluray and are ignorant of the superior quality.

    • +1

DVD Playa Hater. They see me spinnin', they hatin'.

    • Dont be uncultured

    • because some people are too tight to buy blu ray players.

    • I started to move away from DVD/Blu-Ray, until I started noticing that more and more movies aren't available on any streaming service at all.

    • +5

The best way to watch this movie is to have 2 TVs side-by-side. One TV playing the movie forward and the other TV playing the movie in reverse.

    • Can't wait for The Odyssey to come out.
      Nolan's the best.

Cheers OP. Decent sale to combine with the Buy 2 Get 1 Free deal going currently.

I got these for $10.65 each:
    Unforgiven
    Superman: The Movie
    Creed II

    And these for $13.32 each:
    The Shining
    Full Metal Jacket
    Ready Player One

Nice choices. Were you able to do free click and collect or have to pay postage?

I ordered 27 items, but luckily they're all coming from the one store (Shepparton - no one shops there or they have a larger range than most outer Melbourne suburbs) so only $9.99 shipping.

      • +1

Quite a haul on your hands there, nice! Looks like Shepp is the place to go. $9.99 shipping is not bad at all for 27 items.

I was luckily able to click and collect all of my order at JB Highpoint. I was considering Doctor Sleep, The Bob's Burgers Movie and Ron's Gone Wrong but they weren't available in-store at HP - these are $13.32 each.

I forgot to mention all these titles are 4K Blu-Rays too.

  • +1

Thank you kind stranger. I got Goonies 🤣

  • I was looking to get Batman 1989, returns, forever and batman and robin separately as I assumed it would be cheaper than buying the 4 film collection. But forever appears to be hard to come by…. Why would this be?

    • +1

It's always the way. I remember when The Karate Kid movies were first released on Blu-ray. They were all easy to find and cheap except The Karate Kid III which was always expensive and impossible to find, Goes for around $45+ on eBay. As does the 5 movie pack at $125+. Now you can get the 6 movie Blu-ray pack for $70.

  • add to cart then they just vanish

    edit: worked properly with Chrome

Picked up 4K Spy who dumped me, BR Beetlejuice and BR original John wick for $25 pickup ( always a struggle finding a store that has the titles
