  • Nope just get this one from Lenovo direct - https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-slim-…

    • Am I wrong in thinking the Intel chip is better and the igpu are FAR better then the Amd ones though….?

      • +1

You're not wrong. The Intel chip is better in this context.

        • Dumb question, but does an AMD Ryzen Al 7 350 ALWAYS have a 860m iGPU, whether it just states "integrated graphics" or specifically states the 860…? Lenovos website has both options, depending on the laptop selected

      • Depends what you're using it for, Intel chip better for content creation, AMD better for AI workflows.

        • Also, any idea whats the difference between Slim 5, Pro 5, Pro 5i and 5i 2-in-1 - last ones probably obvious but all the others are all 16" IdeaPads!! Then in 14" you have the linked Thinkbook and also a Yoga Slim 7. So hard to compare them all - all within about $100 of eachother….the batteries range from 45W to 84W….

          • @JuryWheel: Pro models (i and non-i) and Yoga Pro are the 75 Wh ones, the others are up to 55Wh

      • the intel igpu is ~5% better in games than the AMD one
The intel CPU is significantly better than AMD, passmark ~~~10% better in single threaded, and 20% in multi-threaded
I am not including any metrics on AI

      • I think people are confused. This is the previous generation meteor lake chip not a lunar lake. So the TDP is much higher, up to 115w, than the AMD CPU. You are losing out on battery life. It also only has 6p cores and the IGP is not the same one as in Lunar Lake. Note AMD drivers are still significantly superior to Intel's. There are games where there are still lots of issues with Intel drivers. Just look it up.

        • So you'd recommend the AMD then?

        • What if you compare the 258V lunar lake to the AMD?

that Lenovo site one has a MUCH better display, OP deal has 300 nits @ 45%

If you consider the ~10% cashback you can often get at Lenovo the Ideapad 5 Pro at around the same price (before cashback) is a far better deal. The 45Wh battery here would be a huge deal breaker while the IdeaPad 5 Pro is 84Wh from memory. The IdeaPad 5 also has a better OLED screen.

    • Do you have a link? Doesnt seem to be a current offer…..

$1539 w/ 32GB and a 84Wh battery. It's been that price for a while now and the 10% cashback offer seems to come and go weekly - it was available yesterday, gone today - just watch the shopback, cashrewards, etc sites.

        • Thanks for the tip - works paying for it so im not sure ill worry about the cashback, but it looks like i can get 5% as a signup discount anyway.
Comparing the different lenovo models, the IdeaPad Pro 5 14" seems to have v.fast ram (8000MT/s), v.bright screen (1100nits HDR Peak/500 nits typical) and the biggest battery (84Wh). With the 32gb and Wi-Fi 7 upgrade, its looking like $1490 which seems like a good deal….the deal laptops CPU/GPU are probably better, but slower ram (5600), non-oled 1920x1200 screen with max 300nits, 'only' WiFi 6E, and 45Wh battery.

My working laptop Lenovo G8 only get a Core 7 240H CPU. Actually, that's a renamed Intel 14 series. I'm not sure about the 255H. After installed all the company softwares, it's not fast any more. Especially the Microsoft Onedrive sync dragged it down. When I got it brand new, its performance was very good.

    • I think any computer will slow down with all these company apps esp those scanners running in the background

  • Off topic but related, I have a lower budget. Choosing between Acer Swift Go or Lenovo Ideapad Slim 5. For productivity mostly and a bit of light gaming. Thoughts on which is better?

    • Depends on your use case but the latter is newer and more power-efficient (cooler and longer battery relative to the other) whereas the latter has more power.

  • I am waiting for a cashback offer to get this:
    https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/p/laptops/yoga/yoga-2-in-1-seri…

CPU is efficient, the rest looks good.

  • Acer Swift Go gets down to about $1000 with the same CPU, quadHD OLED, but 16GB RAM
