AOC 27G4E 27inch 180Hz FHD Fast IPS Gaming Monitor $169 + Delivery ($0 VIC/NSW/QLD C&C / in-Store/ $250 Metro Order) @ Scorptec

380

I had this exact monitor for over 2 years with no issues whatsoever. I was looking for weeks for the same monitor at a good price to expand my set up. I finally found this on Scorptec and decided to try price matching it with JB-HiFi via Chat because the shipping is cheaper. I rarely post, please be gentle.

Surcharges: 0% Afterpay & ZipMoney, 1% card & PayPal payments.

Unfortunately no In-Store Pick up but, I was told by JBHF Chat sales rep that if you go at JB Store near you with the deal (Available to your phone only for 24hr)you could negotiate to having it click and collected at the store.

I'm surprised that JB deems that Scorptec is a competitor.

    • JB are sourcing from Ingram Micro for this monitor (it's listed on their end as Ingram Micro, 6291816), Scorptec are likely to be as well.

At least Scorptec are passing on the more of the promotional price (this is likely a promo price from AOC/Ingram), whereas JB is holding onto their margin…

      • Scorptec doesn’t have much of a retail presence outside of VIC, so makes sense why JB still needs their margin.

its if 1080p its has to be 300hz at least. to be worth it.
Which is pretty much a competition type gaming monitor.

I grabbed the CQ27G4 last week for $199 which I think is the better deal (1440 vs 1080, curved vs flat). Happy with the screen so far.

Except that model has a VA panel which is inferior to the IPS panel from this monitor. I'd reckon the 27" IPS panel at 1080p would look better than the 27" VA panel at 1440p.

      • Yeah, fair enough. Didn't realise the panels were different.

Yes. We're comparing IPS to VA panels in this situation. As far as i know IPS always trumps over VA when it comes to picture quality.

      • PS to everyone. Actually have a look at an IPS panel vs a VA panel.

Yes IPS is better, but VA is nowhere nest as bad as TN. Its the happy medium with quite good viewing angles, low response times, and priced well. And assuming all is equal a higher pixel density VA will be sharper than a lower pixel density IPS, maybe the IPS will have better colours and contrast but depending on your needs that could mean lots or nothing

  • AOC 27G11ZE2 27" FHD Fast IPS 240Hz 0.3ms on centre.com is $189. Is it worth the extra

    • However what's the point in 240Hz if a computer can't even reach 240fps it in a lot of games let alone at 180fps. Better off getting the 180Hz monitor for less as it's also IPS at 1080p. It's not as if the GPU is going to reach near 180fps at AA games.

      • Thanks

        Snappy mouse cursor on desktop

      • still it's future proof if you can have the hardware that reach 240fps.

        for cs2 for example.

        • Yes but i was talking about in AA games. But by then the monitor might have packed it in requiring a new monitor when a GPU can reach that speed in those games.

        • Come a long way since a TNT2 32MB red-lining 28/29/30 FPS on CS 1.1.

Millennial version of "Back in my day"

  • 300 nits of brightness. Good enough I guess, but might not be the best for a brightly lit room. Fortunately gamers play in the dark.

    • True. It's not as if you're going to be using this monitor in the outdoors like you might on a laptop computer.

Are you saying that all gamers are sweaty virgins living in mums basement that never see sunlight??

      • I feel seen

      • Like I told you 8 years ago, I'm just living with Mum til I find my own place.

        • Yeah but you told me 30 years before you reminded me 8 years ago LOL

  • HP Omen at 27" 1440p should be better value than this? Around $273.

Not the same panel. The AOC one here has DCI-P3 of 102% while the MSI one has a DCI-P3 of 80%, so the colour reproduction on this one is a lot better.

  • Would this monitor be any good for reading on? Also for watching the odd YT vid?

I read all my magazines and newspapers online and wonder if this IPS panel would be crisp for this purpose.

  • For what it's worth my AOC 27G2 27" monitor lasted almost three years before I had an issue.

It can't do 144hz anymore - it has to run at 120hz or less.

Overall, it was cheap and I don't really regret the purchase.

But having said that, I probably wouldn't buy another one on these grounds.

  • Serious question is there a 19” version of this?
