@zemphism he keeps saying the same thing at every Turkish Airline deal. I've flown a few times with Turkish and they're definitely decent, and the food is actually the best I tasted on a plane, unless things have changed in the last 3-4 months which I highly doubt.

    • As of 2025, Turkish Airlines continues to rack up international awards and recognition, reinforcing its reputation as one of the world’s top carriers.

      Turkish Airlines in 2025 is:

      • Global top-tier carrier
      • A leader in onboard service, global connectivity, and hospitality

They're often mentioned in the same league as Qatar Airways, Emirates, and Singapore Airlines.

All good until a hick up. Many of their flights are cancelled or re-scheduled. Good luck with after service. Call centre, if they answer are very unhelpful. They feel no empathy for passengers. I suggest think twice

      • I travel at least twice a year with major Middle Eastern Airlines (Etihad, Emirates, Qatar), every single one of the big 3 are miles ahead of Turkish in customer service, punctuality, boarding and on-board experience.

Turkish is cheap, but it's cheap for a reason. If they reschedule your flight (this happens more often than you think), you miss your connection or you want to reschedule your flight, you're on your own essentially. Would suggest to stay away if there is a decent alternative.

shouldn't bother you as you reside in Australia

Some of us are dual citizens…

  • Can I choose different return dates ( that are listed but for different departure dates) and still get those good prices?

    • Yes and no

  • Had a bad experience with them cancelling and partially refunding me for a return flight (first leg was completed) without offering any alternatives. Had to buy a new returning ticket with other airline, putting me more than 1k out of pocket. They cancelled with short notice.

    • +5

That's why you need to buy international travel insurance

    • +3

This doesn't sound right? Based on everything I've read you must be offered an alternative, and if not you can ask for a refund. If no alternative can be found the airline has to compensate the extra amount.

Good luck getting anything from airline…even refund took about 10 days and no transparency on how they calculated refund (was much less than 50% of whole amount).

        • Perhaps because the return was a cheaper flight. You can check this yourself on your receipt when you bought the ticket. Provided you bought it off them and not a 3rd party reseller.

Still sucks though that they cancelled the flight. What reason was given, if any?

    • Nah same here, had a horrific experience with Turkish Airlines, didn't board us (and every other non-Turkish passenger) due to overbooking the flight, but then same kept happening for each subsequent flight that we were on standby for. Missed our connecting flight to Australia and after hours of no help (+also losing ours and the other passengers' luggage) we had to spend thousands on a new flight home with a different airline. I'm nervous to fly them again after that

    • +1

Yep, Turkish changed our flight for operational reasons, had to pay an extra $50 ticketing fee to get on the new flight that THEY changed. Got bumped back a row from the exit row that we paid for. Was told bad luck you accepted the terms when you accepted the new flight. Call centre are abrupt and unprofessional. They're cheap for a reason.

    • +1 terrible experience with Turkish and it took me 6 months of back and forth emailing to get a refund on the unused portion of my flights.

Anyone interested in lodging a ACCC complaint? The way they handle complains and the various ways they try to waste your time trying to get out of their responsibilities is something I've never seen at any other airline, especially the so called premium ones (Turkish isn't one).

Want to pick your seat? (Eg not the middle seat )
that will cost you, and it's per leg, so add at least an extra $200 for that.

Can i just book SIN to MEL or KUL to SYD ?
I can seem to find direct flights? Are they not allowed to sell those or something? I just need a cheap (and comfortable) flight to Australia back from Asia.

    • +1

My understanding is that they just stop to refuel for stopovers (no disembarking from plane) so they are not actually seperate flights to and from the stopovers.

      • +1

When I flew IST-MEL earlier this year about half the passengers disembarked in SIN, leaving the plane quite empty. I don't think there were any new passengers for the SIN-MEL leg.

        • Yeah looks like they don’t sell those legs between Aus and Asia separately for some reason. Very strange as i thought all airlines have the fifth freedom.

Can't even buy Turkey Netflix gift cards anymore haha

  • -3

    You misspelled Constantinople.

  • +1

The minority It’s wild how the name ‘Istanbul’ has been official since 1930, yet a couple of folks here still refuse to use it. What exactly is so hard to accept?

  • So frustrating that you can get return for 1300, but a one way will cost you 1100.
