InfiRay P2 Pro USB-C Thermal Camera (Android) - $248.49 Shipped @ Pergear eBay AU

250
CBTJ20

I purchased one of these last week (got the one with the macro lense addition) with a 17% discount from eBay. The seller has now reduced the price further on the camera only version and eBay has increased to 20% off!

Absolute steal at this price. Very handy tool for so many things. I'd originally purchased mine to help with thermals of my house and find areas for improvement. Have also checked switch boards for safety etc.

For me it was either this or the well regarded Topdon TC001. Specs are basically identical and I know that InfiRay are supposed to be one of the largest manufacturers globally of the actually sensors so went this direction. The size of this thing is nuts also!

They have other versions available if you want the macro lense or wanted one compatible with iOS.

  • Cheers looks like a cool little gadget to try. Could be useful for managing engine bay temps

  • You have to use a specific app with this I assume? Is it on the Play store or do you have to download an apk? It makes sense to leverage an existing phone or tablet but it makes me nervous when/if the app isn’t going to be maintained etc.

    • +1

App is on Playstore and it is well maintained. Infiray is one of the leading brands with these consumer high res IR sensors.
It also works with a bunch of other IR apps as the HW inside is pretty universal and bunch of other AliExpress brands use it. I use one of such clones and it works fine.

      • The reviews aren’t too convincing! :/ what other or apps does it work with? Which do you use out of all of them?

        • I don't have the InfiRay model exactly but I use Top infrared app and the InfiRay app for my USB IR module.
But I admit for people, who do not know how IR cameras work in principle, some of the behaviour and feature of those app can be confusing.

    • +1

I am not sure if it will be so well maintained in future. Infiray, as a Chinese manufacturer has supplied goods to Russia in the present conflict. They have been sanctioned by the US State Department. In the present climate who knows what that means? It happened last year, but then again this is a $250 item not a $10k rifle scope.

      • That is just a US sanction. US isn't the world. The developer will keep developing the app, even if just for Chinese market. All they have to maintain for THE REST OF THE WORLD is the English translation.

  • What are good use cases for average joe

As a homeowner you could use it for checking insulation and water leaks but that's about all I can really think of. Maybe quickly diagnose a short in electronics

      • Checking insulation hot spot could save you this much or more over the next few years in heating cooling

      • interested to know which function(s) allows the ability to detect leaks, much appreciated

        • +2

The wet wall will appear noticeably cooler on the thermal image. Has to be an active leak, not a historical one that dried out completely.

          • @goodwillN1: never thought of that, thank you for sharing your insights

      • maybe use it at the club? or pub ?

  • can iphone use it?

    • +2

No, you need the lighting version for iphone for some unknown reason based on my searching

      • This is so annoying, only way I could justify buying one of these is to share with family but there’s a mix of android/apple. I’ve looked previously for one that worked with both even if using adapters but couldn’t find one

        • +1

Easiest thing for me to do was to buy a network locked phone for cheap like this one and just use it for thermal cams. Totally worth it because these phones have screen resolutions unmatched by any thermal imager. Although the imager units are limited in resolution, having a good screen still helps with what you're looking at. Some good apps would allow you to switch between phone's camera and the imager themselves, and I think the infiray apps are pretty good.

You can also hook it up to a computer and use it via a usb c male to female cable. I've bought the Miseey or something but they work with the infiray PC software too.

    the device is compacted

Only if it has been put through a compactor.

    You mean it is compact.

Yes, I've got one, you'll be amazed how tiny it is.

    • I bought one for shits and giggles. I believe it will only work with the latter though. What do you use yours for?

      • +3

At the time it just seemed like a cute bit of technology to play with. Like looking at how hot computer components were getting.

Then one day someone pointed out something, and the thermal camera with its ability to give an IR false colour picture with temperature readings provided the objective evidence to convince my GP, then my specialist, that a medical problem I had had a completely different cause than the one they'd been treating me for.

They'd been treating me for exposure to cold causing damage to my hand. It was never going to get better because the thermal camera showed that the problem was actually the reverse. That there wasn't enough blood flow to keep the hand warm enough for normal metabolic processes like healing to work properly.

People had been pointing it out for years. "Gee, your right hand feels colder than your left one." But it took an image, in colour, with crosshairs and numbers, to get the medical profession to treat what their patient was telling them as real. At that point the P2 Pro paid for itself with a single picture.

  • Wow. That's a cracking price. Agreed, a very useful tool, good app and compact size.i reviewed one a couple of years ago and still use it somewhat regularly - https://goughlui.com/2023/06/12/review-xinfrared-infiray-p2-…

  • They just canceled my order without any message, and the 20% off eBay discount has expired.

    Are there any alternative options?

    • I got a message, but they haven't actually cancelled yet (ordered cam + lens)

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. We feel really sorry to inform you that the last P2 pro thermal camera was lost in our AU warehouse(the warehouse company we cooperate did not correct the stock situation in time). We are not available to arrange shipment from our AU warehouse now. Please kindly accept our sincere apology for this.

To make this right, we'd like to :

Cancel this order with a full immediate refund

      You could:
Reorder from our China warehouse with:
✦ Same price as your previous order, please send offer to us
✦ Faster 7-10 day shipping (normally 14-20 days)
      ✦ Same great product: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/315707740220

Voucher is still active but doesn't show properly on all listings (the search box is junk too, returns hardly anything)
Not sure how it would work if they match price by offer, don't think you can apply vouchers to accepted offers? (or maybe thats only when they send you a discount offer). I guess would have to offer the full discounted price though don't know if would have any luck with them accepting since the voucher discount would have been split with eBay.

      • Not related to this item or seller but I remember getting emails like this when people post something too cheap on ebay. I figured there was some penalty for sellers to cancel your order without you explicitly agreeing so I waited. Seller eventually restocked the exact same item in the AU warehouse and still refused to ship it to me at the price I snagged it for originally as "my one was lost in the warehouse", and did not explain why they couldn't replace it with one of the other ones in the warehouse (other than I had gotten a particularly keen price). Ended up just getting the refund and not purchasing again.

        • Surprised your seller didn't just cancel it anyway with reason "Buyer asked to cancel" like they normally do.

Not sure that's what happened in this case anyway since they did offer to do same price for China listing.
I ended up just cancelling, but they did then also offer a future discount

We’re happy to offer a [discount/future credit] as a goodwill gesture—just let us know!

          • @bamzero: They sent me an offer which is $365inc gst. The code is showing as minus $92. However when I’m going to accept the offer it doesn’t show if the price includes the code or not. I’ve not been in this situation before and definitely don’t want to buy unless it’s at the cheaper price point. Anyone able to share there experience? I am guessing that I accept the offer and then when I checkout/pay that I can apply the discount code? I just don’t like committing to buy without that absolutely clear lower price.

            • @jj8aus: You should be able to apply the code on top

            • @jj8aus: If it's a seller offer you can't apply codes.

I think if you make the offer then you can apply a code.

              • @bamzero: I did it, and was able to apply the code. Thanks all!

  • About the normal price for a 256x192 25Hz thermal camera on AliExpress. Here's one for $227 shipped from Australia. https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005004787793405.html

I have this model (not sure if it was the same store) and it works with the P2 Pro app, so same experience. Sometimes fails to connect but otherwise works fine.

You can get one with a screen for $233. https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/1005005184264013.html
