Normally I always look in case of stuff like this, but didn't half an hour ago when I was in store, you watch, my local will have 20. Good find OP

    • Which store please?

  • +5

Will it be $5 in all woolies if they have them, or is it up to the store?

    • +7

Don't bother. It'll be time wasted. The actual stock may be under 10 across the country.

    • +2

Price applies to all Woolies. Figuring out which Woolies have them is the challenge. They turn off stock tracking for clearance phones these days. Used to be workaround by setting store in app and searching if product comes up as In Stock, but that doesn't even work anymore.

Good burner if you’re heading to the US soon

    • +8

Good burner if your staying in Aus too lol

      • +4

It’s just a good burner phone in general.

      • +1

        How to have burner phone?

        • +8

Start with a mistress and you’ll see the use case.

        • +2

How to have a burner phone? Ummm you buy one!

        • +2

Their defintion of burner isn't our definition of burner. To them burner just means a throwaway phone.

          • @cheekymonkey97: Er, right, and what's our definition?

            • +1

@zwolf: Phone with a sim that can’t be traced to you.

              • @cheekymonkey97: I’d say a burner is just a phone nobody else knows about seeming that the SIM is always registered to you in Australia unless you’re willing to do some sneaky stuff using a travel eSIM without registration

              • @cheekymonkey97: Also a second phone that is separate to you normal daily, for naughty or questionable contacts etc…

    • +1

What do people usually when traveling using burner phone? I assume a burner phone wouldn't have a camera as good as their main phone and this is important when you're traveling, especially for holidays.

      • +2

I just bring a proper camera when travelling, this way I am decoupled from whatever phone I use

      • Get a cheap feature phone.

    • +2

Good burner to give to friends or relatives come to Australia and found their brand new phones may not working with any three Telcos.

      • -1

They should have researched and got an international SIM card then.

        • -1

          Cut them off!

        • +9

It's nothing to do with the SIM card. A lot of international phones don't have the 4g bands required for Australia.

        • +3

Phones are whitelisted to work on our networks, there's a very real possibility of international handsets being blocked here

  • +6

Is there any way to check stock online?

  • I am in Melbourne CBD and hopefully can find this, my sibling has been using a slow phone for like 3 years and would love it.

  • Is there any way to unlock for free?

    • Would like to know this as well

    • +4

I don't know if this is still true, but usually the phone manufaturer doesn't add blocks to Android, its the company thats selling it (like Telstra has their own version with their own apps pre-installed and locks).
So you used to be able to flash android phones with the intl or global variant to unlock it for all. I could be wrong, but I remember doing this with my older Samsung and it didn't even trip knox because its an official firmware still.

    • +3

Telstra charges $25 to unlock 6 months after activation, so activate it and then stick in a drawer for 6 months.

      • Would you activate by just recharging it with $13 for 7 days?

        • You normally get a $2 prepaid sim included with these phones, you can activate them without ever recharging them. You're activating the SIM/prepaid number, not the phone.

    • +1

On one of the previous Vivo 21s threads there was mention of what to say to Telstra to unlock it without paying a fee.

      • If enough time has passed they will unlock it for free. Recently bought a couple of cheaper burners that were telstra, picked up 3 and they guys said one was older stock so he can unlock it now and to call back in March for the others. Haven't called back yet

      • Yeah , I'm a tight arse and want it unlocked for $0.00 thanks !

  • +23

Charger and a cable worth more than $5.

    • +3

      Bonus phone too.

    • +7

It’s $5. Less than a bag of chips.

      • All depends on the brand 💯

      • +1

if its trash, it will still be trash even if its cheap.

        • Five.
          Dollars.

    • +12

99.5% the time of your 5g phone is actually running at 4g

      • -5

        No it's not.
If 5G is available then your phone will connect to it

        • +8

          If 5G is available

          Exactly. That's the 0.5%.

          • @bio: You’re missing context though, for all intents and purposes NSA is still considered 5G

        • -1

          This guy tries to read.

      • +2

It depends on your sim card. If you have a 5G network sim card, then your phone will run on 5G, otherwise it will run on 4G.

        • +2

It depends on your mobile phone. If you have a 5G network capable mobile phone, then your phone will run on 5G, otherwise it will run on 4G.

          • +3

@spaceflight: It depends on network coverage. If you have 5G network coverage in your area, then your phone will run on 5G, otherwise it will run on 4G.

            • +1

@Click_It: Actually, it depends on the network configuration, and if you're migrated to a DMC which all 3 carriers use for 5G standalone in Australia. The most common config is 5G NSA, which means lte core and lte are used as the backbone or anchor, however 5G SA means that you are purely connecting to 5G, which is more common on Vodafone, or postpaid plans across Telstra and Optus.

      • sure 5g phones will connect to 4g if there is no 5g signal, but I would much rather have faster internet when 5g is available than slower 4g internet.
        And thats the point.

    • FACT checking downloading a torren 5km of CBD via Lebara-mobile, the red-square is the switching-point from 5G to 4G, https://ibb.co/pBQmBxxF

    • +1

WFH 80% time and don't have any 5G tower in my suburb in Sydney inner West.

    • +2

5g just drains your battery quicker.

      • Then we should go back to 2g because every upgrade after that (3g, 4g & 5g) drains the battery quicker.

  • -1

Will it work overseas with a local sim

    • +3

      It's locked to Telstra.

      • +2

        May work with Boost

        • +3

          It will ✅

  • +2

Anyone know of a stock checker?

  • Good for voip home phone

    • +1

How do you set that up?

      • +1

You need signup a VOIP provider and get a dedicate line number, then install a VOIP app then setup to link to that VOIP account.

      • I just use crazytel app … I ported my old home number to a DID with them over a year ago… Works well

  • works with boost mobile?

    • +2

      Yes
