Office 365 Discount

I'm looking at downloading office 365 on my computer, mainly just for using Word.
It's such a muck around to use google docs and then it saves on my computer as a PDF or notepad.

Anyone have any tips or tricks for not paying over $200?
I found a website called nerduse.com selling:
Microsoft OFFICE 365 PRO PLUS | Lifetime Account | 100GB STORAGE | 5 DEVICES | PC/MAC/iOS/ANDROID Instant Download
With a 91% discount at $47.

This just feels like a scam so thought I'd see what else is out there

If you just want to use Word, you could instead try Libre Office Writer. 100% free and it does 99.99% of what Word does, in my experience.

      That's not Word….

        you could instead

https://massgrave.dev/ will give you office on your computer.

I’d still rather use LibreOffice. One less piece of spyware on my PC.

Sure, nothing wrong with LibreOffice, but that wasn't the question :)

        • Expected response from the linux and open source community tbh.

@askbargain: So they are the IT equivalent of a Vegan? 😂

            • @JimmyF: Vegan requires food. Linux is free. Linux as free as air(when it works).

    What's wrong with Libreoffice?

    • -5

It doesn't have many of the advanced features of MS Office.

Like keeping tabs on users and their data? Or like delivering profits to shareholders? Or something else?

      • +4

        For example?

Name a few advanced features you couldn't live without that you get with Office 365 Word?

Compatibility was the worst problem for me. I had a lot of problems when I had to move between Word and Libreoffice.

      • +1

Out of interest when did you try?
I tried LibreOffice ~10 years and ago and gave up. Tried it again last year and I can't fault it for basic word processing needs and compatibiltiy with .docx files.

Good point. I did consider that, and removed my final comment "I'd never go back". Might actually be time to give it another go.

    • This is the way

  • If its just basic stuff you can use the free Word online as part of one of your Microsoft email addresses

    • OP is tired of 1 extra step to download a copy of the online docx to save it on the PC.

  • It’s not office 365, but Office 2024 LTSC.

    • Is this a bug ? Or is LTSC volume licensed so it doesn't need activation?

Office 365 web version is free

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/free-office-on…

You just can't run macros and a few advanced features.

    I usually use Softwaremart.com.au

  • You can pay the subscription price of $16/m. It'll be13 months before you break even with the one time purchase but if you don't want to spend over $200 and still want a legit solution it's an option.

  • i havent paid for a microsoft windows or office in 10 plus years

        • Insert Obi-wan Kenobi saying "Now there's a name I have not heard in a long time" here.

I have used gamers-outlet.net for licenses before. It seems similar to nerduse.com only, i have never used that so can't vouch for it. just make sure you pay with PayPal to get some protection (thats what i did anyway). I've not had the need for the cloud storage so have just gone with the non 365 versions that activate over the phone (automated voice prompt) and got office 2024 Pro for about $27.

    • Same, I've never had any issues with keys from gamers outlet.

They're not licenses. They are illegal.

      • +1

It's unlikely microsoft will be coming round to sure up your licensing posture as part of a yearly audit.

You could probably play dumb and say "oh i thought it was too good to be true but then Microsoft activated it over the phone so…"

        • They just deactivate them.

          • @jv: I am yet to see this happen and it's been years. There is one little trick though…. they will constantly send you "Update notifications" which don't actually update the version of Office that you are using, rather, they update you to O365 and then require a subscription to sign in and use it. As long as you never do that "Update" and only apply the patches, you are fine.

            • @HulioChavez:

I am yet to see this happen and it's been years

              It happens all the time.

  • HI,

I have subscribed sometimes from Bing Lee (when they have sales) and another good one one is Save On It Software https://www.saveonit.com.au/
These are both legit places selling legal software. Also, if I find a really good deal I buy a couple of one year subscriptions and you get a keycode that you add in your Microsoft account, you seem to be able to pay a couple of years in advance and it just changes the expiry date each time you add a new code. I buy the family (5 user) subscription and usually pay around $100 for the annual subscription. SaveOnIt seems to have more deals than Bing Lee and maybe you could subscribe to their newsletter and get alerted to good deals.

  • Has anyone got comments on those product key Office 2024 for $50 or less? Is it legit?

    • +2

I've used ones that coust a couple of dollars and they work fine. I haven't had my licenses revoked.

It depends on what you mean by legit, do they legit work, yes. Are they legitimate licenses, no.

      • Thanks mate
