Plus you get a free trip to El Salvador thrown in if you've ever dared to badmouth the God Emperor Trump online, great deal!

  • +8

Trump might also want to read your Ozb comments before letting in

Just spent a bit over a week there for work. What a hole. USA definitely is a kingdom in decline. On top of that, everything is so expensive - $40 for a burrito and drink at a hole in the wall Mexican place. I don’t think this is an ozbargainers paradise.

    • +1

Yeah, remember going to the US last year and getting McDonald’s for 1 adult and 2 kids, and paying $35AUD!

      • +6

        that seems about right $10each?

      • +1

        Same as here man

      • +1

The F you are complaining for a $35 meals for 3 persons? Lol, your first time to step in to MACCAS? Try visiting the locals, and even Maccas at Japan.

      • Sure it was AUD? Lol

I buy one burger for US$20 + 10% sales tax plus expectation of 20% tip in SF…. Works out to be 50 AUD. CA is SO expensive now…

        • Woah fk that

    • Yeah that's ruthless.

Mexican food is definitely riding a wave of popularity so they will jack it up

    • I don't know how I can go back again when the last 2 times I went the AUD was at parity and then above parity with the USD…

    • -1

I loved SF when I was there recently. It’s a beautiful city. Highly recommend but choose your spots carefully.

It is expensive though. Equivalent of $10AUD for a proper Melbourne equivalent flat white in small size.

  • +9

San Fran is the kind of place you make sure you’re back at your hotel before dark.

    • -2

Really dependent on the area you are in. We had a great time walking back streets to different dive bars at night! This was about 10 years ago so..yeah heard it's a bit more rough now

      • +1

I was there in 2015 and recently there. They are not comparable experiences. I felt so unsafe as a 6ft 90kg man, there is NO WAY I am taking my family there let alone dive bars alone. Literally crime in broad daylight everywhere - rode an bike and watched as a man was breaking into a car on the side of a Main Street and walking past Macy’s as a homeless women was filling her bag … let alone the rampant drug use and undesirables after dark.

        • -5

Massive clean up has been done with the last 6 -9 months.

        • I was ambivalent about marijuana legalisation until I went to CA 3 weeks before it was legalised and then again 3 weeks after. Crazy to see the difference. Stoned people everywhere and marijuana was so accessible….

          I'm totally against it now

    • And have the insurance cover theft and glass for your rental car because if you park outside for 10 minutes, it's more likely to be broken into regardless of bright day light or night. Lol

    • In San Fran you do not leave even a sun glass or a cheap jacket inside the car, because it'll be broken into. I saw many cars with windows down and doors unlocked with notes on the glass "please don't break in, doors are unlocked". It's ridiculous out there.

    • +2

And you have to watch out for (human) poop when you are walking everywhere. Not even kidding, it seems to have become a major problem and always had to watch where we were walking in our visit two years ago. Not even the rough areas.

  • +3

Some places now force a tip on your bill and you have the option to give them a second tip. Pretty sure they will get mad at you if you dont. Lol.. NO thanks.. Also i would like to avoid the cost of any medical issues while over there and or being deported for no good reason.

Lets wait for the US to move away from becoming the (GOP) Republic of Gilead its heading for today

    • +1

Your travel insurance will cover med bills

      • Travel insurance will turn its back on you if you commit a crime in the country you travel, unfortunately the definition of crime is a moving goal post lately in US, and they don't consider x shouldn't be a crime, just a blanket

  • +1

    no thanks

  • +3

$400 cashback on amex too but still nah

  • +5

Great now I can act like a local and get smashed on fentanyl and then hang a crap on the street.

  • +4

They should be paying people to go there

  • +5

Visit the land of paedo protectors at a dscounted ticket rate. Maybe their tourism is suffering. One can only hope.

      • Yeah but then they elected the biggliest richest paedo of them all, no one bigger…probably…yuuuge..the best paedo ever…everyone said so.

        • -1

Biden? Did he touched you? Looks like.

      • +1

As if Trump and Epstein weren’t best friends lol

  • +1

Visa waiver jumping to $40 USD in October I believe.

  • +8

You literally couldn't pay me the cost of these flights to go there.

    • -1

Tacooos are sent to back to their Country, so no chance even if we pay for your flight

  • +5

Wouldn't go even if you paid me

  • +4

Anyone have any recommendations for a hotel in SF that isn't disgusting and isn't $1k a night?

    • Green tortoise hostel. It's still a hostel but you can get private rooms, aind has a decent breakfast too.

    • +1

I stayed at Hotel Via, King st. It's across from Oracle park and near Embarcadero. Train right in front, near bike. Clean and neat with decent rooftop bar too

    • stay in the mill valley or sausalito, you can get the ferry from sausalito.

    • Lots of good value options in Cows Hollow. Hotels are quite old there but it’s a lovely spot and felt safe. Lots of bars, cafes and convenient walking distance to main attractions.

    • Citizen M in Union Square was awesome as a single guy visiting a year back. Good rates, lots of Europeans as it's a more established chain. Relatively central if you don't mind a bit of walking or trams.

You didn't want to stray too many blocks outside of the center though as others have said.

  • I will not go to USA for business or leisure until the President is off.

    • +5

      *offed.

      • +1

This is a courtesy note to let you know that as of this comment, you are on the FBI watchlist

    • +1

you look a little old for him anyway

      So brave… So courageous….

  • Is Untied still around the same quality as pre-covid?

    • Yes, unfortunately. I fly them a bit for work.

      • Oh jesus, that's your employer's choice!?

        • +1

A lot of us are Virgin Australia Platinum and Gold, and United just happens to be VAs partner. I've flown Air Canada a few times but as we're in Melbourne it's annoying having to go via SYD/BNE.

I used to love the Delta partnership back in the day, could book Comfort+ for 10-20% over a Basic Economy fare but VA would give you the same amount of Status Credits as if you flew Premium Economy, it was great!

  • +2

For those that have the Amex offer of $400 back if you spend $1000. This is no brainer.

    • +4

You mean, this is for a no brainer

  • @flightfinderau - are these Basic Economy or Main Economy fares?

I tried clicking through, but couldn't find this stated anywhere.

    • +1

I just went via the United website and it is Basic Economy.

  • I don't get how this "deal" gets 21 up votes. The best way to send a message to these dicks is simply don't go there.

    • +1

Maybe some people don’t care about politics?

    • +5

We aren't all here to send messages to people that don't even know we exist.

    • +4

I don't get how this "deal" gets 21 up votes

Allow me to explain it to you:
Things cost money. And when those things become available for cheaper than normal, more people become interested in the thing.
This website is dedicated to this exact purpose. HTH.

  • I put in Toronto instead of SF and the price nearly doubles, ridiculous

    • I'd pay double to visit Canada, worth it just not to have the strip search experience at the border (unless you're into that sort of thing)

    • +1

yep same thing was trying for a flight to YVR, ended up booking UA to SEA from SYD and will drive across to BC.. saved myself $1k.. on the other end, AC to SEA is $1250 via YVR… duh.. only if I could skip the SEA leg but my ticket would be void on return.. so now booked UA to SEA for $1300ish and will drive across and back for me flight home..

  • +4

came here for comments. not disappoint.

  • Burning man folks would appreciate!

  • Count myself fortunate to have visited SF three times in the past. It always had its problems but from what I hear it pales to how it is now. Very sad.

    • There is a huge clean up response happening. When I was there recently it was probably one of the cleaner US cities I visited.

    • Been there 5x times in the past, San Jose, Silicon valley is the place to be.. very expensive real-estate on par with Sydney levels..

  • +3

As an FYI to those who care, those latest June 2026 dates to SFO would likely cover the first couple of games of the 2026 NBA Finals.

    • Which will get you within 3000km of the NBA finals?

  • Get to America cheaply then pay through the nose for other things not to mention to robbed, shot, bashed.

Like American propoganda on other countries but at what cost….
