Who Is Using Toogoodtogo? What Else Am I Missing?

I've only recently gotten on to toogoodtogo. It's an app that participating stores list food at the end of the day at discounted prices. Bakers Delight has a lot of bags, but there's also Donut King, Daniel's donuts, Rolld, and lots of independent stores. The idea is they make a mystery bag of items that would normally retail at a higher price and offer it for a discounted price. E.g. for Bakers Delight, it's generally $30 worth for $10. Mine have usually included 4-6 bags of items, like loaves of bread, scones, bacon and cheese rolls, croissants etc. The ones in my area have been pretty good, some stores in other areas probably aren't as good.

I was a little surprised that we haven't had a forum post about this in years on OzBargain as I know a lot of people are using the app now.

Also, as I love a grocery or takeaway deal I'm wondering if there's anything else I'm missing. I currently have free uberone, use the good Milkrun deals when they come up, have exhausted all the free/very discounted HelloFresh, every plate and youfoodz deals. Tried doordash but had trouble with lots of deals not really being available so gave up. I also keep up with the Colesworth deals and rotate cards to get better points deals. I'm a bunch member as well but it's a lot effort to maintain gourmet level for limited reward.

What are you toogoodtogo experiences? Any other deals/apps for food and grocery I'm missing?

I was a little surpised(sic) that we haven't had a forum post about this in years on ozB as I know a lot of people are using the app now.

I guess the more ppl who know about stuff like this, the higher the prices will go up over time, and the smaller the contents /range per bag will become , as the resource shrinks. That's how it usually goes. But thanks for the tip.

    • I wonder if more stores will join if it’s popular. But yeah agree, the stores will push the limit of what they think there is demand for. But at the same time the stores get rated, so if it’s not good value people won’t buy it.

Ha! I am wrong. I search as per how it’s written in the app looking for commentary.

I’ve been using it for a while. Mainly to get sushi from my local sushi sushi

Yes, please delete your post so less people know = less competition for bargains. :)

The bakers delight one near me sells out faster than a Taylor Swift concert

    • I did consider that, but I think it’s fairly well known in bargain communities now

I looked at Foody Bag and couldn’t se anything on there.

  • I’m in Adelaide and there’s not much on there, looks great overseas in places like the UK

My take on it is, it's more to give the shop a few sales at the end of the day.

The value isn't really there most of the time. Bakers delight give you a few pieces of over priced bread you don't need for $10. Local donut shop gives you 4 random $8 donuts that you have to pickup at an inconvenient time and preorder the day before.

The value just isn't there considering the need to pre-book the day before and the strict pickup times. But hey that's just me.

The bakers delight are variable from store to store. Some give great value, others meh. Their stuff is horrendously overpriced to begin with. But I have found most times you get two loaves of bread (sometimes one is a half) and a few other sweet things or a couple of pizzas etc. It's not bad but not something I am willing to shell out $10 for too often either.

Local deli gave two pasta dishes and 2 bland little samosa type things for $10. I don't think that's great value either, just unpopular stuff they want to get rid of.

I think it is more of a Marketing Scheme/Scam
You are not buying anything that is LEFT over and would be disposed of at the end of the day.
Mystery bags are pre-ordered usually offered the day before - where there is a X number bags pre-available for the next day pickup.

This is THE Scheme/Scam… that it is pre-available for X number of bags.

So you are really getting something cheaper, but they are getting more sales out of it…. and a way of bringing customers to the store…. note that leaving feedback asks "Did you buy anything else?"…. the while you are there sales!

I have used it quite a few times and some have been good value.
but many stores after initial coming on board have offered less and less for the $30 value the next time I have purchased.

Bakers Delight are always good for 2 loaves plus goodies like fruit scones, or scrolls and offer value with changes in items got.

Bread shops have generally been good when they initially start, but then a few weeks later are half the items and more like
    $15-18 value.

The one cafe I have used was good for 2 meal containers, good value and more importantly the food was delicious.

Rare for anything to be available for me?
And when it is, it's very poor value.
Only one offer last week from a cafe.
It was "any two random biscuits or muffins". $10 for $30 value.
You're trying to tell me a biscuit or a muffin is worth $15 f'ing dollars each. Yeah nah.

I know I'm really cheap, but if I see something only marked 66% down and it's on it's last day of freshness, I mock their discount. I expect 90% under those circumstances.

Haven't heard of this scheme. Doesn't interest me.

  • Nothing in my suburb. Not going to waste the cost of petrol driving somewhere to get what could end up being of dubious value and maybe an item or two in the bag that I didn't like.

There is a Bakers Delight here but they are not listed. They have nice things, especially the apple and walnut scroll, but unfortunately, my budget does not run to those prices. I can make those at home for a fraction of the cost and without the additives and chemicals.

When I learnt about TGTG at the beginning of the year, there were usually a good selection of surprise bags available anytime you'd open the app. More recently, I have to be very lucky to see any available when I open the app.

    • It’s probably better known now.

I've used it a few times but we don't have a lot on the app where I am in Canberra. Unlike the UK and Europe where it's huge and so many stores doing it and very cheaply too compared to Aus. I used it in the UK recently and it was brilliant - so much choice and very cheap. Hopefully Aus will improve as more stores come on board.
