Advising what our ongoing nbn costs are on our plans. new to this sorry!

        • +22

99$ for 1000/50 this side of the nbn speed upgrade, with static ip and no cgnat included is pretty solid?

          • +2

@dekekun: thanks @dekekun - Static IP, No CGNAT is all standard

        • +21

If you do a bit of comparison you'll find $99/month to be fairly competitive. Looking at 5 other providers that are popular on Ozb:

Aussie Broadband is $119/month for 6 months, then $129 thereafter.

Leaptel costs the same $99/month but only for the first year, afterwards it's $115/yr. CGnat free to opt out.

Buddy Telco (owned by AussieBB) does offer first free month then $99/m ongoing for the same speed tier. However you need to stump up extra $5/month to switch off CGnat = total cost $104/m

Optus: $129/month but you get $170 worth of FlyBuys Points. No CGnat by default.

More Telecom cost $129/month but it could be $79/month if you have a Home Loan with Commbank Yello perks, basically a targeted deal. No CGnat IIRC.

        • +1

$99/month is great with static ip, you have no idea what you’re on about!

  • Who is the 5g carrier?

What city are you located in?

    • +1

Telstra - We cover all of Australia using Telstra Wholesale network

  • Can anyone share their experience with these guys?

  • +1

Will you be participating in the NBN free upgrade from September onwards for FTTP and HFC, or will there be an extra cost?

    100/20 > 500/50
    250/25 > 750/50
    1000/50 > 1000/100

Also, do you provide a CVC graph?

    • @fade yes we are participating in the nbn free upgrade. we don't provide CVC graph sorry

      • +2

In this Whirlpool post you wrote

Haven't worked out prices just yet!

when you announced the NBN residential speed boosts. Does this mean there could be a price rise coming to enable you to sustain your plans once the upgraded speeds start?

  • +6

For those that care, they are using the AussieBB network but currently only have a single POP in Sydney which all traffic routes through. However, there are plans to switch to more in the "near future". This would be really attractive to me once it does

    • +1

@nategasm thats correct, not far away!!

      • @carboncomms I have a few clients in Brisbane I'd like to sign up once you have coverage up that way. How long is "not far away" for them?

      • I'm also interested in knowing the timeline for when you will have an Adelaide POP? I'd be happy to sign up when this arrives.

  • @carboncomms Please don't use a jpg file as the URL. The mods will update the picture for you.

    • +1

Thanks @Twix new here so didn't know that at all

  • Any major difference between this and buddy with added static ip other than an extra cup of coffee a month?

    • Static IP, No CGNAT and we are a ABB Wholesaler

    • +4

Buddy Telco has a Static IPv6, lower latency and Perth live chat tech support.

Carbon Comms doesn't have IPv6 yet, higher latency due to one Sydney POP and Sydney phone tech support.

      • +4

We have live chat support as well. Even the owner takes on support calls. It’s all about customer service we are here to help.

  • do other nbn plans also come with a static IPv4 address?

    • +2

Static IPv4 is included @ Carbon Comms.

Most providers charge an extra $5 or $10 a month for a Static IPv4.

      • +3

we don't charge extra for Static its standard

    • All come with static ip ipv4

  • What’s the ETA for ipv6?

    • We are working with ABB on this

  • could business customers apply for the plan as well? thanks

    • Hi @Bob Wang of course you can its for both Residental and Business

  • Can you set reverse DNS ?

    • I believe we do.

  • Im with leaptell already, 1000/50 for $114pm with this i can save,

Therefore gaining static IP4, and save $15pm

Do i need to do anthing with leaptel firdt before signing up?

    • Not at all will submit the port request for you

      • +1

        Leaptell
880/42 typical evening speeds vs yours is 600, is this important ?

    • -6

Superloop is $85 for 1000/50. Static for $5 more

      • +6

for the first 6 months, then $109 ongoing (+$5 for static ip)

        • -7

And? It’s still cheaper? What kind if insane sockpuppet bullshit is this thread? Everyone on Ozbargain moves around for deals.

There’s no contract on this deal. How do you know that they won’t change prices in 6 months?

          • +5

@ONEMariachi: Because you simply saying $85 for 1000/50 isn't the full scope of the deal.

Its a bit like a gym saying $0 fee for your first week…. sure…..then how much is it?

This isn't sockpuppeting, people here on osb just like to know the full scope of a deal.

And if it were sockpuppeting I'd be doing a pretty poor job at it as I'm currently with superloop.

You are right, there isn't any way that we can know if they won't change the price in 6 months, but we can't know that for any provider, so that's a moo point.

Not sure why you are getting so upset, are you ok?

            • -7

@whitepuma: The reality is, that superloop is $9/month cheaper, even if it is limited in time. If you want to pay $9/month more for the next 6 months go for it, but it's dumb. Especially if this deal goes up in 6 months, and if it doesn't you can switch to them then. Either way, you win switching to Superloop instead of this deal. No matter what direction you take.

Also, calling something bullshit doesn't make one upset. That's just how aussies talk. It's just another word for nonsense. You may not be familiar with talking to people outside of the internet. So just for your knowledge.

              • +3

@ONEMariachi: yes..your right, superloop is cheaper, for your first 6 months. I have no problem with admitting that, however lets just be clear about what it is.

But saying "Superloop is $85 for 1000/50" is very misleading to anybody considering that over this deal. if you can't admit that then i can't help you.

                • -7

@whitepuma: No worries little one. Weird point to stick to since literally every single telecom works that way and has done so for the last 6 years.

Keep your downvotes up with your alt accounts following your every move. You’re so cool and not suss at all.

                  • +3

@ONEMariachi: Relax mate, I didn't down vote you.

                    See here, here, and here.

i can't prove no alt accounts, but I encourage you to contact the admins/moderators if you feel I am doing so.

Personally I don't feel it would be worthwhile making alt accounts just for this conversation, but it's a bit weird this is getting to you so badly.

                  • +6

@ONEMariachi: There’s a fair bit of irony in you claiming that @whitepuma mustn’t be familiar with talking to people outside of the internet, then calling them “little one” in your next comment.

The downvotes are not from alt accounts of @whitepuma, they are from others who think that your behaviour is poor.

Any plans for Opticomm 1000mb at this price?

    • +1

Hi @chapolin we are waiting on getting better pricing for opticomm network

      • Yes please!!!

      • I'll third that, opticomm needs your attention

        • I don't disagree. Need better pricing.

  • Signed up around 9:20pm VIC, got disconnected and haven’t come back up, have restarted the HFC modem and got all four lights. Any ideas?

    • +2

Check that your router is set to IPoE. It maybe under Auto/Dynamic IP or DHCP.

      • Thanks! But no luck.. I’m running Opnsense and I’ve set DHCP on WAN interface (which I was already using actually). I’ve also tried my other router, same issue. I’ve used these previously with Leaptel without problems.

    • +2

We us IPoE, Auto/dynamic IP ensure you have changed your configuration.

    • Well this is bizarre.. got an email for port confirmation from the old isp and then 10 minutes later it just started working… coincidence? Have not changed any settings…

  • Whats home phone voip like? Looking for something for my grandmother. Netflix, facebook, home phone is all she needs

    • @danielagain it's Virtual number that runs through your nbn service.

  • @carboncomms I'm looking for a VoIP Virtual Mobile Number for very light talk and text private use (no data needed). Any chance you have any deals? There's not much info on your website.

  • How many POI'S are you connected to?

  • +2

damn…need opticomm deals in this speed price point…

  • Do you have an ASN, or upstream provider, looking glass? anything to describe your network

    • +2

AussieBB reseller with a single POP in Sydney

      • -1

        ewwwwww…no thanks

  • Anyone finding this page blank with no NBN plans?

    https://carboncomms.com.au/pages/carbon-comms-nbn-plans

    • +1

no mate , works fine for me with plan details!

    • +1

It works here. I'm thinking it's using javascript to bring up the plan details on the web page. So perhaps the javascript through your web browser isn't working right.

      • +1

Bingo. Seems adblock was blocking whatever element houses the plans…

  • Superloop is $85/month for 6 months right now for 1000/50, and you can get $55 cash back from Cashrewards or TopCashBack, bringing your monthly cost down to $75.83. I got lucky and got the $120 cash back a little while back making it $65/month — but $75.83 is still way better than $99, and Superloop is a known good provider.

    • +2

$109/month after the 6 months is up. That's some thing you may need to take into account.

      • Absolutely, I’ll be hunting for Black Friday, Cyber Monday, XMas, New Years deals for a end of Jan connection 🙂

  • +2

I'm not a fan of supplying a copy of my driver's licence, even less so via a JotForm.com form that is used for sign-up. This really needs to be replaced with a more secure ID verification.

    • +2

      That's a big yikes

    • +1

An actual scanned copy of the license?.

Yeah i wonder if they're saving a copy of the driver license on a server. That's a big security risk.

      • we don't we delete after sign up

        • +3

Don't care, you don't need a copy of it, or even the number.

Even if you someday have the best price, you won't have me as a customer for that fact alone.

You need to abandon this ridiculous requirement.

      • Yes the sign-up form requires a scanned copy of the driver's licence. Even if Carbon Comms doesn't save a copy themselves it's already gone to a JotForm server in an undisclosed overseas location.

    • +1

Yup, this was my turnoff in signing up.

    • more than happy to sign up anyone via 1800101050 and we can do the process over the phone.

      • +2

what's required for a signup over the phone?

    • +1

      Wow, that's crazy.

Even if they had a better price, I wouldn't go with them for that fact alone.

There is absolutely no need for them to have a copy of my driver's licence, or even just my driver's licence number.

      • @dna level c we don’t hold your drivers licence it’s 100 points ID basic requirements. A lot of providers do it to avoid fraud which is very common. Once we create your profile it’s removed we don’t hold your drivers licence.

        • +1

I don't care about your bogus reasons, you're the only ISP I've ever seen that has asked for this.

I've been with Aussie, Superloop, Leaptel, Tangerine, and some others for NBN that I can't remember right now, none have asked for this.

Even prior to NBN, I've never had an ISP ask for this.

Your requirement is ridiculous, you need to abandon it, it is costing you customers.

        • +2

That's strange because of lot of other businesses like mobile providers use an automated online government system for the ID requirement which checks the id details during the signup process. Which doesn't require a scanned copy of the driver license at all. It does the id checking automatically through a secured encrypted system. It's much safer.

Using a scanned driver license upload is so antiquated and unsafe. What if this server some where gets hacked (before the scanned identification card is deleted) and the identification details get leaked. The exact thing happened to Optus a few years ago where identification details for a whole heap of customers were hacked off a server. In that case i think it was driver license, medicare card and passport details were leaked to criminals. It does happen.

  • VoIP is not included / bolt on right? I saw separate plans listed for VoIP, I assume I need to pay the full price even if bundled with the Internet plans?

  • +4

    Hi All,

We are reviewing our processes and have no issues being able to help people out not point being uncivil.

I am here to help and provide customer service.

We will be removing the scanning portion of drivers licence for nbn services but will require the drivers licence number only no photo document.

Our main reason was FRAUD in the past.

Or you can call us on 1800101050

    • How do users verify with you folks over the phone?

      • we've changed our form now.

We can do it over the phone or over sign up form
