      Interesting.
I wonder if you could still buy one of the cheaper memberships now & then get upgraded?

  • +17

I love how they tried to glorify the changes as a huge positive for the customer, when the crux of it involves:

    • Free Plus night will now require a minimum of one paid night.
    • 50% dining discount reduced to a max of 30%

Another day, another loyalty program devalued sigh…

    • At least the 30% dining discount is now for up to 10 people, before it was up to 2… Not great if you regularly dine as a 2, but good for families etc

      • +3

It only ever applied per adult (for the 2 pax requirement). I regularly use it as a family and get the 50% off everything currently.

        • Really depends on the hotel. Some allow to use 50% for the whole family, some require children to order from kids menu only.

    • +1

I always used the free night to stay somewhere I’m far too cheap to pay for, like Sofitel Sydney or Melbourne. Having to pay for one night is less appealing but each to their own I guess .

    • -1

Good for solo travellers, you do get 15% off drinks as well and an extra free night per year. Pretty minimal changes for me.

    • I remember when Loyalty was reciprocal.

Maybe I should set up a s̶c̶a̶m̶ ̶ scheme where they pay me and I'll set the terms and conditions.

I can't see any alternative, I don't see why I should pay for something if they keep reducing the offering.

  • +1

Even if you booked your Stay Plus FREE night before the launch but haven’t used it yet, you’ll still benefit from the upgrade, as long as you meet the minimum stay requirement.

Does this mean if you have already made a free night booking before 30 September, but the actual stay will be happening after 1 October, they will honour the free stay plus give you extra two "buy-one-get-one-free" nights?

  • +1

Memberships in other regions have been repriced too. Looks like Philippines and some other cheaper options have gone up close to $50 overnight.

The dining discount is simplified but sucks for couples.

At least the pay 1 stay 1, the most expensive night is free.

    • Interesting. Does it look like all regions are changing so there is no free night with paying for 1 night?
What are the new prices in the other places?

    • Ours actually dropped $50 interestingly, down to $349

    • All regions are now roughly the same price.

      • Can you choose to renew in a different country? Like I have a Malaysian membership because it's cheaper, can I tell Accor I've moved and just renew in Australia now?

        • +1

You have to let your membership lapse, wait over a month, then join in Australia.

  • +1

Only nice thing is the free accor gold. Out of the big chains, Accor seems to upgrade the most for me, even in Australia. Whereas the other programs only reliably do it in asia

    • +2

Yeah, but my first thought was, are you really that gold if everyone is gold . Makes it less likely you’ll get late checkout or an upgrade

      • Except that only a tiny proportion of Accor customers would purchase Accor Plus, so only a very small proportion of check-ins at any one hotel on a given night would have Gold status.

        • accor plus isn't status - you get accor silver with plus membership

        • They have 450k plus members

          • @Onemoredeal: Wow - that is much more than I expected, especially considering Accor Plus is only in the Asia Pacific region.
I wonder what percentage this is of total members/guests.

            • @Gaz1: In their email about the changes they open with the 450k, only reason I noticed it, surprised me too.

    • +2

depends on the availability.. i've never gotten upgrades as gold, or even platinum but i don't travel much these days

      • gold i might have been upgraded once, but the hotel was pretty empty. as a platinum i got an upgrade everytime even when the hotel was busy. they just do it automatically for me. i don't even ask.

    • Gold in the new silver with Accor…. Since they introduced diamond

Platinum gets me some nice upgrades.

  • +2

I'm still confused. It just so happens that my Accor Plus Gold expires on Sept 30th and I do not yet have enough status points or nights to maintain. But, they actually assess on the 31 Dec when I will have gained those requirements.
So, what happens? On the 1st Oct do they change me to ALL Accor+ Explorer and I get the 30 status nights anyway? I am confused dot com. Do I have to pay for the new program?

    • +3

You are gold as part of their ALL loyalty program- not accor plus gold (not a thing). On the 30th, your status will drop.

If you have an paid (or free through amex) Accor Plus membership, it will be renamed as Accor + Explorer on the 1st October and it will give you 30 nights and free gold in their ALL loyalty program.

Accor+ Explorer and ALL loyalty program are not the same thing. Their ALL loyalty program is like QFF or virgin velocity or hilton honours. Their Accor+ explorer is a separate paid for membership that can give you free gold in their ALL loyalty program.

The naming scheme is utter shit and makes things more confusing

      • It literally says Accor Plus Gold on my card and in my ALL profile.

        • +2

          Yes.

ALL gold obtained through accor plus.

          Shortened to accor plus gold

      • Thanks for explaining - it’s so unnecessarily confusing.

  • From 1 October 2025, ALL Accor+ Explorer membership replaces all Accor Plus memberships including Traveller, Supplementary, Explorer, Explorer Plus, Business Explorer and Discovery memberships.

There goes my 2 free complimentary nights in exchange for 2x B1G1 free…

    Definitely not gonna renew.

    • If you have 2 free at the moment it's in exchange for 4x B1G1 free

      • Nope

If you have multiple unused Stay Plus Complimentary Nights as of 1 October 2025, each will be converted into two (2) Stay Plus FREE Nights with the ALL Accor+ Explorer membership, up to a maximum of two Stay Plus FREE Nights.

        • The wording is terrible, people on other forums have reported contacting Accor and being told this is incorrect note "If you have one unused Stay Plus Complimentary Night as of 1 October 2025, it will be converted" vs "If you have multiple unused Stay Plus Complimentary Nights as of 1 October 2025, each will be converted". I believe the issue is that rather than saying "up to a maximum of two Stay Plus FREE Nights" it should read "up to a maximum of two Stay Plus Complimentary Nights"

Admittedly I haven't directly contacted them myself, but these are the general reports I'm seeing from others.

  • +1

I get some people are pissed but I don't hate this. I usually blew my free nights as part of a longer stay (eg in Singapore I stayed a week and combined it with a Red Hot Rooms deal), so the B1G1 works well for me. Instead of a weird dining setup where the discount changes depending on the # of people, I get a flat 30% off. Sucks for those who are using it as a couple but for bigger groups (eg bringing family with for dinner), it's a great deal.

I already got a few upgrades in NZ off Silver included in Accor+, so I'm keen to see if Gold changes that at all.

  • Can you use both stay plus nights after booking only one paid night? Otherwise seems like a big nerf.

Previously: Buy membership for $350 and get a $400 night for free - you're up $50.

Now: Buy membership for $350 and you have to spend $400x2 in order to redeem $400x2 in value. You're still losing out the original $350.

    • no, its buy 1 get 1. up to 2 stay free nights.
      from 1 oct 25

    • +1

Yeah it's no longer suitable for those who want to buy the membership when it's discounted just to use the free night for a 5 star hotel.

    • If you are planning on a longer stay anyway, then it may work out to be more advantageous to bring down your average nightly cost.

In your example, the total cost of 4 nights would be $1150 ($400x2 nights + $350 for the membership) which gives you an average cost per night of $287.

Compare this to the original stay free night where your one night stay cost you $350.

  • So, to clarify - If I book my Stay Plus Free Night by 30 September, it will be honoured even if the stay is after 1 Oct 2025?

    • Yes

  • +1

I contacted them to lodge my objection to changing the terms of my membership during its term & they offered a pro-rata refund via this link:
    https://www.accorplus.com/before-you-go/

I suspect they are being inundated with comments but it would have been a lot fairer if they made the changes effective your renewal date.

    • +1

Oh yeah that was mentioned in the faq

    • Or at least credited extra Rewards Points for the members who recently joined and paid $399.

    • Has anyone else tried this cancellation / prorata refund link?
When I click on "Continue to cancel" it just comes back with a blank screen with AccorPlus at the top. I tried a couple of browsers too.

  • @spackbace
You can add that until October new members get 14 months.

  • +1

Is this legal? Can they retrospectively add the BOGO requirement for members that purchased "one free stay plus night" per year? I know it's now 2 BOGO, but say I want to part ways with the program after the sweeping downgrades to benefits. I wonder what the outcome of a consumer complaint would be: Require that they still have to fulfil the terms of the original agreement, until the annual term expires?

    • +1

Will be interested to hear whether anyone is going to lodge a complaint, to the relevant body/agency?

      • I did. Was told to check their T&C.

      • Terms subject to change

Accor reserves the right to vary these Terms, including the membership benefits
and participating hotels, at any time subject to giving reasonable prior notice to
members of any material changes. Notice of material variations to the Terms (the
“Variation”) will be given either by email and/or on your Membership Account
and will be updated on the Accor Plus Website. If you do not agree with a
Variation, you may (i) terminate your Accor Plus Membership directly on the
Membership Account, within 30 days of receiving that notice; or (ii) in the case of
a Variation for the Automatic Renewal Plan (as hereinafter defined), disable
and/or cancel the automatic renewal function of your Membership Account. If you
terminate your Membership within the abovementioned period as a result of a
Variation (other than for a Variation for the Automatic Renewal Plan), you will be
entitled to a pro-rata refund of your membership fee. Any non-material variations
to the Terms will be displayed on the Accor Plus Website.

        • If you still wanted to pursue this I suspect it would be a matter for the court to decide if these were unconscionable terms and conditions.
          For example:
          https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/buying-products-and-servic…

Of course in this case due to the very small most involved they know that most people won't take this any further (and indeed you agreed to these terms when you signed up anyway).

Either way whilst legally they are abiding by their conditions I think they could have avoided this train wreck, massive backlash & very unhappy loyal customers by making the change occur at the next renewal (or from 1st September next year, for example) & not trying to make out is was a big improvement when for a lot of members it was a clear downgrade.

          • @Gaz1: If they offer me $350 refund I'll take it. Really no point to keep the subscription as we don't stay in $350/night rooms and the dining benefit is becoming absolutely useless in October.

            • @vovka: Not only are they offering/providing a pro-rata refund they are still offering this even if you have used your free night. As annoying as the sudden change of conditions are, I really can't fault them on the refund policy. No one is financially disadvantaged and if you use the free night before you call them for the refund you are actually getting a deal.

              • @Ynk: Only if you used it within the first month or two. If I book a free night for September they'll cancel it once I submit Accor Plus cancellation request.

BTW, their current T&C dated June 30. So when they had that "sale" with 3000 Bonus Rewards Points, they already knew they'd be soon changing the conditions and dropping the membership pricing to $349.

                • @vovka: Yeah if possible you're best to book/use it prior to the cut over and then cancel for the refund. In our case we have booked the free nights for late this month then will cancel for the refund, wait a month and then sign back up again under the lower price - For us this works out as we get a totally free night, and then can sign back up under the new program and lower fees for 4x 50% off (we are lucky in that this represents good value for our travel patterns)

I appreciate for others it's worthless and they value the discount on dining more. We're really happy to give up 20% discount dining to gain $700 off accomodation which we don't have to mess around with trying to find free night availability which often didn't suit when we wanted to travel and can use it for the most expensive night anytime (excluding blackout dates)

                  • @Ynk: Their cancellation link still not working 😃

                    • @vovka: At the risk of sounding like an Accor apologist lol what point do you get to? When I click the link in Chrome and go through the processes I can get all the way to the we're sorry to see you go page, with all the terms a checkbox for I acknowledge to cancel etc. I'm not willing to test pressing the final button as I need to use my free night next week first :)

                      • @Ynk: That's exactly where it fails - nothing is loaded after clicking the button. 🙄

                        • @vovka: haha classic Accor IT, hopefully you can sort them out so I can cancel next week without calling! ;)

                          • @Ynk: Please share your experience with cancellation. Here or via pm. Thanks.

                            • @vovka: Sure will do, it won't be for a few weeks but I'll pop by with an update.

                              • @Ynk: When are you planing on using your Status Plus night?

As per the cancellation, the last allowed date is September 3, but I believe the pro-rata amount will be lower compared to August 31.

                                • @vovka: Ugh I booked it for September 7th, this is getting even more complicated lol

                                  • @Ynk: Sofitel Darling Harbour has the 25th of August available for free stay. If membership cancellation made afterwards but before the 31st then that night technically would cost $66.

                  • @Ynk: From Accor representative:

For a pro-rata refund request, the membership must remain untouched and unused.
If the Stay Plus night (or any other benefit) is used, we cannot guarantee that the refund amount will remain the same — the value may be adjusted or the refund request may be declined.

                    • @vovka: WOW that's a disappointing response, I hope / suspect? that this is a ploy to talk people out of the cancellation. Wonder if they would be willing to send it in writing. I don't remember seeing any of that in the online conditions for cancellation (but as you have said the final link doesn't work!)

                      • @Ynk: The link works now showing $333 refund. You have to provide your bank details before proceeding.

As per my conversation with Accor I mentioned to them that according to their T&C pro-rata refund is based on the number of months left, not the benefits used or not. They replied the decision ultimately rests with their relevant team when reviewing your refund request.

                        Kinda half-legal bullshit.

                    • @vovka: Sounds like they were not sure of the answer and have decided to cover themselves by giving you an inconclusive answer.

    • I guess they might get around this issue by offering a prorata refund link (even though this still doesn't seem to work!).

      • +2

In my scenario, I would want to remain a member until the end of the annual term, and have the agreement for that term honoured.

        • +1

I wouldn't as we already have an Accor Plus member in our family. Under the new conditions the dining benefit for us becomes useless.

        • Guess it'd be extremely hard for them to honour the original conditions for everyone, especially with the dining benefits as there's no easy way for their restaurants to check if you've come from Accor Plus.

  • Can someone please tell me if there hotels option available under Red Hot Rooms at Guangzhou.
Considering singing up but want to ensure whats available.
