OMG this would look magnificient. I have a 75 inch mini led (Sony) and I reckon it's 90% of OLED quality.

    • +4

      not even close.

      • +2

        Savage.

      • could be a bravia 9?

      • +2

The gap between OLED and decent mini LED TV's has closed considerably over the past decade, no they aren't equal but they're a lot closer than you'd imagine if you haven't checked them out recently. Not to mention the improvements TCL has made as a brand over the last 5 or so years.

        • Closed considerably yes.

          Still not close.

    • -1

2048 dimming zones at 98" means they are ~2 square inches per zone.
On an OLED of the same size, the "zones" are ~0.00049 square inches each.
      so ~4200x larger zones.
I agree MiniLED is awesome but 90% doesn't seem quite right.

      • +18

Just because it doesn't have 90% of OLED's capabilities on paper doesn't mean it doesn't look 90% as good to the human eye.

Go look at these high-end Mini LED sets next to OLEDs in a shop and you'll see what Naigrabzo is talking about. In most situations, with most content, I'd say 90% is about right.

Considering OLED TVs of this size don't really exist in the consumer market, it doesn't even make sense to use that technology as a basis for comparison in this segment.

        • -1

Completely agree. Getting an OLED at this size is extremely exxy and a high quality new miniLED is pretty darn good.
Specs sheet aside I bet most consumers would not be able to tell the difference

        • I agree - hence replying to someone making a comparison with OLED.

      • +2

You can go for this LG 97" OLED EVO M5 AI 4K UHD Smart TV with ZeroConnect Box [2025]

But the price is very beautiful, 9 times.

Hats off to these Chinese manufacturers for driving prices down to levels affordable for everyday consumers, while maintaining competitive quality.

        • I am salivating. Maybe if I win lotto…. or marry a rich fellow.

      • yeah man. I don't care about the math. For me my B8 OLED is absolutely superb but my mini LED comes really close for fraction of the price. I can only evaluate using my eyes which are getting old….

    • So why not just buy an OLED and get 100% of OLED quality?

      • +1

        Well said Man!

      • Just let people justify why they are by an inferior product.

There is no shame in it, but people just have to continue to say LED variants of TVs are "almost the same" as an OLED.

      • Because a 98" oled is as expensive as a car?

        • We're talking about a 75" TV not 98…

      • Because I suffer from poverty?

    • +1

As a non tv person the only I got was one that was defective from Sony in the last deal for 700 dollars. And had to return it

What is the viewing difference of OLED and Mini Led? no seriously like from a day to day perspective say watching the news or watching a netflix movie what is the overall difference or what should I be noticing?

I see one looks more brighter one is more darker and natural better with the lights off but i dont feel anything that sparks joy like wow that movie is amazing..

What do you see that I dont see? please dont neg, this is a legit question being in my mid 40s

      • Depends on your background. I have a background in photography so sensitive to colours etc etc. I like it when the blacks pop and there are no blooms. Normal people would NOT notice these things.

Mini LED all the way! Most mini leds are also really bright vs their price. Good to bright rooms.

        • Ah interesting of your background. Hate to be a pain but could you explain the blacks from a perspective of what you see Oled vs Mini LEDs

Just to note i have done alot of co piloting last few weeks before the Sony x90L deal. I have went to good guys saw the tvs etc and have to note the Sony's picture looks more 'Natural' but that could be due to the picture video demos that was being played

          • @George Washington: The blacks in OLED are pitch black especially when you watch a movie in low light. There are no blooming and bleed when dark and light areas are close together.

With miniled the blacks are not pitch black more dark grey. I haven't watched anything in the dark with my mini led though it's way brighter than my OLED in a brightly lit room.

    • +3

Do you know what site you're on? Yeah OLED quality can't quite be matched by minLED, but value for money wise for the everyday consumer it's the right play

      • +2

the site where there is $5k Tv's lol
        times are real tough eh

        • +3

Try buying a 90"+ OLED for less than $20,000.

    • +4

      poor mans

      $4,389 🤔

      • They do come in smaller sizes

  • +1

Love my mini-LED TCL 50 inch i have in the bedroom. Its a 2 yr old TV and the blacks kill my Led Samsung from a few yrs back. Great TV!

    Recommend them!

Blimey, did the police catch them?

Has anyone done the comparison with last years C855 98”?
I paid about this for my 98” C855.

    • There would be incremental advances but not game changing. If you are nitty gritty check rtings or similar.

      • +1

This is the C7K Model though, against the C855. Shouldn't the C7K be the newer release of the C845? I'm a bit confused with the new naming convention.

        • point taken! Not sure about that difference then.

    • Can you share your use experience of C855 98"?

      • I love it. For the price it’s unbeatable. Don’t confused that feedback with it being the perfect TV, it’s not. There some owners with elements of the ‘dirty screen effect’ during certain content - for me, it’s when I play Switch 2. But others tell me they don’t notice it so I’m not fussed. I am very picky with the screen so I’m always trying to optimise settings and I think it offers enough to get most people comfortable.

I have lotsssss of windows in this living room so the peak brightness was a key consideration. I still wish it was brighter. But compared to my LG C5 55” OLED, the brightness is amazing.

Aus just got a new software update today. The new UI is very nice and some extra features have been added that I haven’t had a chance to test.

For RRP, don’t buy these top of the line TCLs. But this C855 98” had an RRP of $10k and I paid $4200. There is no better 98”. It’s a great TV.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

        • Thanks for your experience shared.
I just got my C7K 98 inch delivered and mounted on the wall this week. Want to test it and try to do some optimization if I can find tips online.

    • The C7K is close to the specs of last years C855.

  • I regret not jumping on the TCL C8 in 75" when it was about 2200AUD two months ago. It would be to replace https://www.samsung.com/au/tvs/qled-tv/q60r-65-inch-qled-4k-… 65 inch QLED 2019, 230Hz. Watching mainly in dark room, should I expect significantly better image quality for movies/gaming? I am well out of the loop when it comes to TVs. When do TVs go on sale next you think?

    • Not sure there are any mega deals until black friday. The 20% off TCL tvs happens pretty frequently though

    • See the post above, 98C855 sold last year got similar price as this, so I guess this pretty much same range and seems unlikely go under 4K.

    • You dont need it in a dark room, i have a samsung DU6000 which is actually incredible with zero ghosting and at night in the room its plenty bright enough. I have a TCL C755 in the other room which handles brightness much better.. tldr: dont waste ur money for a dark room

  • Any Aussie reviews on this unit?

    • Not Aussie, but Andrew Robinson on YouTube is a good one. Model is QM7K in other markets.

  • I was tossing between this and Hisense U7 in 65". They both looked amazing. Black levels are so so close to OLED but never will be as good. Hisense seems to have better sound and is 166hz. Great TVs whichever one you choose. splitting hairs

    • +2

If you need a reason for one over the other, I'd say it's the OS. Hisense Vidaa over TCL Google TV - I'd take TCL any day.

      • As a Hisense owner with no experience with TCL - I agree with Jewdas90.

I have a Hisense TV (Model: 65Q8) with great picture quality however the VIDAA OS is horrible - lags lags and lags!!

        • Agree and TCL TV is great plenty of live streaming

        • As I mention below, I have a Hisense P8 TV (75") too, which I originally bought as a temporary TV after my 2016 OLED TV got burn-in after just 5000 hours, but it has been so good as gaming TV that I haven't wanted to update until recently when I saw how punchy the TCL C7K and C8K were in comparison. As my TV is permanently on HDMI 1 in game mode, I don't have to deal with the crappiness of VIDIAA, so it doesn't really matter to me whether the TCL has a better OS or not.

          • @Ozstache: Yeh I also use a google streamer permanently so isn't an issue but could've been nice to not need it, especially since the streamer can't play certain 4k content on stremio. Ridiculous. The Chromecast w gtv can but not the steamer…make it make sense..

  • -1

The way people carry on about mini led you'd think they have oleds in every room of their house

    • Yeah. I support mini led although I have an OLED. For a 98 incher, there is no comparison. That's also what she said.

  • I got JBHifi to pricematch this price last week, which included delivery, but I ended up backing out as it will be too big for the room I was going to put it where I sit 2.3m from the 6 year old Hisense 75P8 TV I currently have that I'm planning on replacing. I'm going to wait for the 75 C8K to go on sale for $2250 again, hopefully before black friday.

    • In the same boat….will pull the trigger then too
