  • Are you sure that the standard firmware on the C240 can handle SDHC ie higher than 2GB cards?

If the units are V1 series then you can flash it with Rockbox http://www.rockbox.org/ which will make them SDHC compatible. Rockbox makes this good unit even better.

  • Sansa players I've seen are very good.

  • Can some1 plz tell me how to get DSE to pricematch that austin's price?

  • i picked one of these up at HN for $10 on boxing day. Don't know if they still have them.

  • To price match, either print out the page and show them or give them Austin's phone number and they'll phone up to verify

  • I snaffled up one of these from DSE Newcastle yesterday. The unit does feel a little cheap but you get what you pay for. And yes, you do have to rockbox it to get 8GB working. You have to load up the microSDHC cards by removing them from the player and putting them in a card reader, as you can't transfer the files through rockbox. You can still access the original firmware even though rockbox is installed though.

You get gapless playback, extended format support (e.g. ogg, flac) all for free… Just make sure you update the firmware to the latest Sansa version before starting to rockbox it (only worked for me on Windows XP, not Vista).

Overall I'm happy with the purchase for the price, as I already have an 8GB microSDHC card for use with my mobile phone. But, the sound quality could be a bit better. Teamed with a FiiO E3 or E5 portable headphone amplifier though, it's an improvement. (See www.dealextreme.com for the FiiO gear.)

  • I tried to get the 8gb micro sd card ($25) today in two DSE Stores (Broadway / George St) - as Jaysimar said - but they both said they can't make it. So that mean it isn't a good deal any more in my opinion…

Or has someone got the 8gb card from DSE?

    • The player is $28 now, which still seems like an OK price, Rockbox-ing nicely.

I was able to get a $25 pricematch on the 8GB card at the time, but it was at DSE Innaloo, close to the main Austin location, which might help.
