Just saw this on eBay this morning, best price I can see for the console right now (as far as I can see)
Edit - sorry to the 4 people who clicked before I fixed the link :/

and I don't enjoy socialising.
Classic OzBargainer.
what
I think they meant the first release batch, like with the Switch 1 that had a hardware exploit that allowed you to install homebrew.
I don't know about switch 2 exploit, but mostlikely no. Switch 1 exploit are no longer depend on early firmware or hardware. People now can do dual boot with the latest firmware, one for online, one for exploit.
I don't do exploit, but everytime I bring my switch to a gathering, there always a people explain about any type of exploit and how greedy Nintendo is.
Switch 1 exploit are no longer depend on early firmware or hardware
So now you don't need a hardware mod for later Switch revisions?
The options are there, hardware mod still exist, as well as software mod. Each offer different benefit and drawback.
The most popular exploit right now is the one using cartridge called MIG-switch, it doesn't need hardware or software mod.
There's a few things holding back the switch 2: expect a couple of years before someone cracks it. The first one was helped along by the fact that the X1 gpu had full documentation about it and the recovery mode could be accessed with a paperclip. the switch 2 is not so lucky and nobody has found any creative solutions to hack it.
Early work has been very slow and not very promising. This has been made worse by Nintendo forcing legal action against a bunch of prominent members of the emu scene who have since left.
Ahhhh classic example of the FOBI.
That was the entire reason behind me purchasing my switch 2 day 1 hoping for a future exploit lol just like the switch 1.
WOW that is cheap!
lol
Try PWE100 instead - $649.95 + $9.95 delivery
The real MVP is in the comments
Does the code still work? It's telling me it's invalid. Maybe I'm missing something
eBay plus member exclusive
Kogan/dick Smith has it for $699 with MK and the code MSAUG12
Or console itself for $642 with same code
eBay Plus membership needed for MSAUG12 for those unaware.
Can’t seem to get for $699. Is only coming up as $720. Not sure if I have missed anything.
Price went up
Ah yeh Jack beat me to it.
Or add $1 item to get it for $630
Use code PWE100
Is it oled?
Nope. It's Nintendo, they will sell OLED version to everyone who bought this later.
HECK
Display looks fine
@PainToad: To be fair, it’s better than fine. It’s a very nice IPS display but still falls short of OLED
The Apple of the gaming world, Nintendo
It's an LCD display that has pretty good colour vibrancy, just misses out on true blacks. The OLED switch 1 does have better battery life, but that's because it was smaller, low res and switch 1 had a weaker chipset.
I blame youtubers for this. Nintendo gave us an OLED switch 1 and youtubers kept trying to force burn in.
I don’t think YouTubers had anything to do with it. If anything most ended up showing just had resilient the Switch OLED display was. Besides, Nintendo of all companies does what it wants. If they were following YouTubers we’d have seen Hall effect joysticks in the controllers years ago.
Almost certainly a cost and parts availability consideration, where parts availability factors in not just the display size as a consideration, but a suitable panel also having VRR and possibly HDR too.
I would like to see hall effect or TMR sticks become more mainstream in the future. Need other companies to adopt as well. From what I recall, Sony's expensive dual sense edge uses potentiometer sticks as well. If my sticks fail I would probably look at the hall effect replacement kits from gulikit.
You really think Nintendo didn't release this with OLED because of YouTubers? Lmao sweet summer child.
This is Nintendo here, kings of re-releases. Oled is gonna come out in 2-3 years just as it did on the switch 1.
Almost 700$. Got the original one for 350 with mk8 a few years ago. Outrageous
Ikr, Nintendo are taking the piss
It's well priced if you're playing games like cyberpunk. When comparing similar settings to the rog ally X that is 2-2.5x the price, the switch w performs similar enough and battery lasts the same due to optimisations despite only having a quarter of the battery size, also less noise and heat as well.
I got mine for under $620 on launch day through the last Kogan eBay deal.
I got my ally for $750. It was a referb came with 1 year warranty.
@Jklaro: Ally is good, I considered it since I have a big backlog of PC games. But from the comparisons, the base rog ally with the 40wh battery only lasts a smidge over an hour at similar settings to the switch 2, windows handhelds aren't well optimised yet. The arm architecture and optimisations for switch w boost efficiency a lot.
I was kinda hoping the Xbox ally X would use the ai max 395 and kinda run as a hybrid console like the switch - downclocked aggressively for handheld and then an full on actively cooled dock for full 100+w gaming.
@DangerNoodle: Well i chucked in a 80wh battery and i get 3 plus hours. That cost $70 but well worth it. I never feel worried i wont have enough battery anymore.
terrible comment
thats like bragging you bought a PS4 for cheap years after the PS5 was out. Completely different console and hardware.
Not really… the Switch 2 wasn't out a few years ago.
The hardware isn't even all that either, it's a huge cash grab
Have you been a communist all your life?
No just since capitalists started demanding unrealistic sums against the market for sub par devices, exploiting their brand names.
Username checks out.
IKR iphones used to be under $1k
And cars used to be under $5K.
A long time ago
I used to take 20p to the fish and chip shop and get food for a family, the newspaper, and the dog! And still have enough change for the power bill
Yeah it wasn't very long ago, the price hikes are proportionate to greed and the companies massive profit spike. Greedflation.
Is it a good time to buy Switch 1?
The perfect time was yesterday
The best time is today
The good time will be tomorrow
Yep. Picked up a switch 1 oled for $250 on ebay. Kids (2 and 5) are loving it.
Nah not really, just buy a steam deck and emulate the switch
Is this possible without a pc?
Steam deck is a pc?
But yes you can run emulation natively and not "streaming". Ryujinx, yuzu, emudeck
Thinking of getting into Pokemon again. Last I played was on Gameboy advance some 15 years ago.
Any recommendations on which games to play and if the switch 2 is worth buying just for Pokemon games, there seems to be so many and so confusing.
Switch 1 and Switch 2 have pretty much the same Pokemon titles available to them (Switch 2 is backward compatible with Switch 1 games) - a Switch 2 exclusive Pokemon game hasn't been announced yet. Just that for certain titles like Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and the upcoming Pokemon Legends Z-A, they'll run a lot better on the newer Switch 2. Oh and I suppose the exclusive Gamecube titles on Switch 2's online platform (requires a subscription), which is getting Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness down the line.
Put more simply, Switch 1 is fine for Pokemon for the most part - this will probably change a few years down the line as Switch 2 only Pokemon games get released.
Have you played Pokemon Scarlet/Violet? What games would you recommend to match the original story lines with professor oak and characters. And would you still recommend sticking to Kanto region games?
imo nothing beats the gameboy era of pokemon games
Aaah yes, capturing missingno and saving your game.
I’d recommend either Pokemon Sword or Shield to kick you off. They were the first mainline Pokemon games on the Switch.
For nostalgia, you could play Let’s Go Eevee/Pikachu, but their focus is not on battling, mostly catching. Suited to a younger audience, but nostalgic if you played Red/Blue/Yellow or Fire Red/Leaf Green.
Nostalgic is what I am going for, so thankyou for your recommendations. I like that Let’s Go Eevee/Pikachu are from Kanto region so might give it a try.
But I'm guessing that Let’s Go Eevee/Pikachu & Sword/Shield are NOT open world like Scarlet/Violet?
Yeah I remember thinking it was really cool playing through Kanto on the TV for the first time. Even if those games are kind of simple.
Let’s Go and Sword/Shield aren’t really open world no. But that might even be better if you haven’t played one of the games for a long time.
For those that have a Switch 2 - does it play Switch 1 titles significantly better?
no. switch2 playing switch 1 version game just no more lagging and frame lost, but graph quality is same as switch 1. unless you buy switch 2 version of that game. normally extra $20-40 for upgrade to switch2 version in Nintendo eshop
It depends on the games. For games on switch 1 that used dynamic resolution scaling, switch 2 just holds the max resolution at the frame rate cap. A lot of these games haven't been patched though so still capped at 30fps for a lot of games and a max of 720p handheld or 1080p docked.
The few games that had unlocked frame rates do hit 60fps more consistently now.
What about BOTW?
Switch 1 version runs better on switch 2. There is a switch 2 upgrade available that bumps up the resolution and framerate as well
Also, I should mention, digital games will load much faster on switch 2. Cartridge games won't load only faster as the cartridge is the rate limiting step.
You can pay to upgrade some switch 1 games. I did that for Zelda - Tears of the Kingdom. It looks crisper and is in HDR. Won't make the graphics better though, so just keep that in mind. Nice seeing Nintendo in 4k tho
Most of the Youtube videos show the frame rate is now more consistent. So if you avoided any games on Switch 1 due to lag or frame rate drops, it should mostly be fixed for all games. From personal experience, Zelda Age of Calamity was literally unplayable in 2 player mode on Switch 1 with heaps of slowdown but plays perfectly on Switch 2.
Maybe Mario kart 64 works now. It was horrific on switch 1, unplayable moments of lag every 10 seconds screwing up your powerslides.
It was the best Mario kart because you had to precision fang it around tight corners. Mario kart world they made the track so wide to fit so many players that it was no longer a challenge to drive fast. It might be good multiplayer I guess but racing fast to be your best now sucks balls
If I wanted to play mk64, I'd try the decompiled version. Decompiled Zelda is so smooth that I can't go back
Many games that don’t run well on Switch 1 perform much better on Switch 2. In particular titles that couldn’t hold a stable frame rate or would scale the resolution of the game. Much more likely to have a stable frame rate now or higher resolution output.
Above applies to games that haven’t been patched but had variable performance.
There’s also a bunch of games that have been patched, some as free upgrades and some as paid updates. They may include further benefits.
There’s then games that won’t see dramatic improvements because the Switch 1 port itself was just compromised and it wasn’t so much that the issues were due to variable performance. Examples will be things that shipped with locked resolutions or frame rates, or had low quality textures and the like bundled. If a game was locked to 30fps previously, without a patch it’ll remain locked to 30fps.
Bit of a mix of scenarios. In general you’re looking at the same, but often better, experience.
One caveat is that the old Switch display was 720p so now some games are stretched to fill out the 1080p, which can be noticeable to some people for certain game types and makes the image look less crisp.
🤔 would it go any lower in the next 2 months?
I came from future. It will be more expensive unfortunately
It's a luck of the draw thing. I got mine at launch from the Kogan/dick smith deal that was on here for under $620. I'm hoping a similar deal pops up as I have some friends looking to snag some.
Based on the current review, I shall wait for a newer version with minor hardware update e.g. monitor.
See you in a few years then.
Maybe a OLED version will come out eventually, as you said, in years.
I'm not a hater, but the fact that it came out in 2025 and doesn't have Freesync/VRR capabilities in docked mode (especially as it's the least powerful on hardware current gen console, and therefore most likely to experience framerate fluctuations) is unforgivably atrocious.
Most entrants in the Xbox One family of consoles (around a 10 year old console) have VRR.
And they knew too because the handheld screen has VRR. They just cheaped out on their dock and left their customers with screen-tearing if they want to use it at the TV. Terrible stuff, even for Nintendo.
You're expecting too much from Nintendo. Absolute minimal hardware so they have a new platform the re-release the same games.
I kinda don't blame them for not adding VRR in docked mode since it runs at 4k60. Whilst there are some TVs that have a VRR range from 40hz to 120hz, there's a surprising amount that have a VRR range starting from 60hz which won't have any benefit on the switch 2 at all.
That being said, I wonder if it's a firmware setting on the console that can be unlocked later or if it's an issue with the SoC. A lot of youtubers have tested other handhelds with the switch 2 dock using an extension cable and VRR works.
Picked one up for $661.20 from OfficeWorks this weekend. Price beat on Target
The cheapest I found is this, though judging by the price and wanting to go to the seller's store directly, it seems too good to be true.
Don't share scams links
Happy to wait till there is an exploit or a game I genuinely want to play that's exclusive.
Nothing in the current or even distant future lineup really justify it for me. SteamDeck really ate Nintendo's lunch here.
Steam deck has sold 4 million units since release a few years ago, switch 2 is at 6 million in 2 half months. There is no lunch sharing here, lol
I wasn't aware Valve released any numbers.
These are educated estimates off the internet. Companies not releasing sales figures is a sign numbers are not great.
Why is it expired? Did the code expire overnight? I havent redeemed my trial yet, so I can't see if it's working or not
Nintendo is a horrible greedy company. They literally stopped a charity from playing their games just because. Pathetic. Do not give them your money
Do people pay premium for gen 1 as likelihood there will be an exploit with early firmwares? I don't play online as I don't believe in paying for subscriptions and I don't enjoy socialising.
