    Real Debrid is the answer.

I signed up last night with this guide, $28.64 for 6 months = ~$4.77 per month.

Some of the unpopular netflix stuff isn't available, like Justin Willman: Magic Lover but I'm still playing around with the various add-ons.

      • +7

        Definitely available. Keep searching

        • +1

What add-on do you have? Is it available on yours? I've only added the one from guide.

      • +8

        Everything's available on the internet

      • +3

Going up for you. Not sure how long it takes to be picked up from your side though.
        Edit: Done

Thank you! Watched it last night!

    • Got RD working with Plex. Struggling to get watchlist sync working.

      • Work with Plex in what way?

    • +9

The answer is to stop watching junk - most of what is on Netflix is just trash.

Spend your valuable time doing meaningful things instead of consuming garbage that kills your brain cells. Spend time with family, pick up a hobby, play sports, read a book, learn a new skill, catch up with old friends, see a real movie in cinemas…etc.

      • +7

        Thanks dad

      • yup its true.

    • Will this work with subtitles in another language? Or is this mostly just for english audio only.

    • Can you create a kids only profile with RD and have the non-kids profile with password?

I see Netflix as a very discretionary item, and anyone signing is making their own choice.

I have sailed the High Seas since the 2000's.

    • My sailing skills are stuck in the mid 2000s. PM me if you know any handy resources to update approach.

Check out the first post in this thread.

      • +2

First post. Realdebrid or similar and streamio or similar.

        • Yup after all the stremio/redebrid comments over last year i took plunge a few months ago. Fantastic way to cheaply and easily watch pretty much everything my fam wants.

    • +18

Used to sail the high seas until about 2014ish. Then converted to netflix, up until about a year and a half ago when eveyone started chucking ads on their paid subscription models. Add to that the fact that people who have paid certain companies (google, etc) to "buy" movies, only for it to be removed once that company loses the rights to stream the movie…

I've taken the eye patch up again…

      • +2

I've always kept the eye patch close at hand, as this day was always going to come around again.
They can help themselves, they always end up getting too greedy and shooting themselves in the foot.

      • +1

Haven't sailed for a time, but the sea is calling. What are the best ways to get back into it?

        • +1

          1337 still works… I'm old school.

        • +1

Yeah i use bitTorrent and 1337. Checkout reddit/youtube for tutorials, there's plenty out there. Ive also got a paid VPN. But thats not necessary

      • +1

Some people never docked their ships, but went to land on a small boat knowing that this time will come again to set sail.

    • +1

Well to be fair the only way to find One Piece is through the High seas. If you're a land sheep you won't get anywhere 😉.

      • Up to Season 8, the seasons and episode numbering is dead on.

    • The High Seas doesn't have a nice interface like Netflix though, unless I'm mistaken?

      • Plex, Jellyfin, Kodi and many others all fix that issue.

I would rather shiver my timbers, thank you.

Companies are obliged to make as much money as possible. They didn't just discover greed in the last 2 weeks.

Either keep paying (I bet you will) or don't keep paying. If enough people don't keep paying, they might reduce prices. Or if the price stays high, it becomes viable for more streaming services to enter the market, increasing competition.

    • -5

Companies are obliged to make as much money as possible.

      Source?

      • +12

The concept of "fiduciary duty": officers of a public company have a duty to act in the best interests of its shareholders.

I don't like what Netflix is doing, and the proper way to go about things as a consumer is to punish the company by cancelling subscriptions, rather than, say, blame the company for trying to grow Netflix profits and share price.

        • -3

officers of a public company have a duty to act in the best interests of its shareholders.

That does not necessarilly mean to make more money…

          • +2

@jv: There'll be exceptions of course, when raising prices and boosting profits is not in the best interests of shareholders. Such as instances where the loss of customers as a result ends up seeing the company making less profit over the long term. But in general, I think 'making as much money/profit as possible' is how you put into practice a duty to act in the best interests of shareholders.

          • +1

@jv: You think shareholders buy shares for fun? It's called shareholder wealth maximisation

            • -3

              @ankti231:

You think shareholders buy shares for fun?

Lots of companies are not public so don't sell shares.

        • the best interests of its shareholders

          There's the problem.

          • @smartazz104: I mean, that's where the money comes from for them to start up. How do you propose a company can come into existence, if nobody is allowed to contribute money to start it?

      • +1

        Wait, Netflix is a charity???

      • +2

Money can be exchanged for goods and services.

  • +11

Will I cancel? Nope, because I cancelled years ago… Do you want more piracy, because this is how you get more piracy.

    • Piracy doesn’t seem to hurt their share price

      • +6

        Then no one loses :)

Netflix has to pay for stinkers like The Electric State somehow.

  • If you're not fussed about HD, random glitches or weird advertisements, there's plenty of Chinese sites offering the same content for free.

    • +4

      Or fussed with keyloggers

    • If you're not fussed about HD, random glitches or weird advertisements

If people were concerned about that, they wouldn't have signed up with Netflix in the first place…

  • +6

cancelled years ago since the crackdown. Doesn't feel like i'm missing out on much unfortunately for them…

need new poll option for cancelled long before

    • +3

Why unfortunate? Their share price reached an all time high last month so doesn’t seem they are struggling for subscribers or revenue

      • Great, so on paper, Netflix looks great.

        • That paper makes a lot of people money. If that paper says Netflix is worth $1200 and I bought it previously when that paper said it was worth $100 then I’ve made a lot of real money.

          • +1

@illusion99: Not until you sell the paper.

            • @tenpercent: Nothing prevents you from selling the paper except your own greed

              • +1

                @illusion99:

Nothing prevents you from selling the paper

It's your paper. I didn't think you'd appreciate me selling it.

              • @illusion99: What happens when the price of that paper falls below $1200? Or the $100 you initially invested?

Elon recently lost billions of dollars over night without doing a thing, simply because market forces changed the value of his piece of paper.

It's like religion, money is all about faith. When people believe, people buy into your product and the value of your paper increases. When they lose faith in your paper, they desert like rats off a sinking ship and it's value decreases.

If its on Netflix, it's bounty 🏴‍☠️

Also, just use it over Xmas.

  • +3

With all these price increases I've yet to see any improvement in their dismal content.

    • +1

You mean you didn’t like Better Late Than Single??

    • +1

New quality shows/movies are definitely becoming rare on Netflix. I'm starting to think even Apple TV+ is bring out new decent content at a faster rate than Netflix. Amazon Prime is possibly even worse than Netflix nowadays.

  • Corporate greed or human stupidity?

    • +1

The latter would be the root, the former is the symptom. The incapacity to see and plan for the long game, due to the fact that the leadership gets replaced relatively short term, there is no incentive for them to optimise for the long run.

  • -2

$9.99 divided by 10 users isn't too bad.

    • Why stop at 10?

    • Only 2 can watch at same house at the time.

      • -1

        and ?

      • If you mean Netflix, that isn't true.

  • +1

I just cancelled. I like paying for content when the service is good but this is a bit much.

I set up jellyfin on my NAS server and the UI isn't as slick but it's not a big deal. The 4k streams could be a bit compressed on Netflix so having proper blueray rips for well produced movies is really nice.l

    • The Kodi Jellyfin add on is really good if you want a nice interface. Though you also then need a nice Kodi skin such as Arctic Fuse

      • That's a blast from the past didnt know that kodi was still around.

        • Yeah Kodi is still fantastic, just requires a lot of time to set it up to your preference. Integrates well with Jellyfin, but would prefer a more native solution for android TV for those Jellyfin specific features
