Really low price on this 2TB M.2 2230 sized SSD for those who are looking to upgrade storage in handhelds like the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally (Original, not X), Lenovo Legion Go and similar. It's a good option for a small portable SSD in an M.2 2230 enclosure too. For bigger savings stack with 18% cashback at TopCashback and join Team OzBargain for an extra 10% back as shopping credit.

This works with other devices that only accept 2230 sized SSDs including Surface Pro 9, X, Surface Laptop 3, 4, Laptop Go and more. To use it in devices like the Surface Pro 8 you'll need to apply some registry changes to make Gen4 SSDs work. You can find the fix here on Github.

Featuring a sequential read up to 5150 MB/s, sequential write up to 4850 MB/s and uses Toshiba BiCS5 112l or SanDisk TLC flash. Unfortunately 2230 sized SSDs don't have DRAM cache, but this one uses pSLC cache and HMB to make up for it so it's perfectly fine for gaming. Especially when a lot of other similar SSDs are QLC.

  • Apply the coupon AUWS16 or AUAF16 at checkout

AU$ based on current Mastercard rate and GST inclusive.

For those paying in USD this is how you get the correct exchange rate in PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate depending on the card.

  • Aren’t a lot of these fake?

    • +1

Nope. No such thing as a fake one of these.

      • Any 4TB deal under US$200?

    • +2

i bought one of these (2TB) from this ali store previously.

it doesn't come in a retail box.. just an anti static bag (which I don't mind)

serial number is legit according the WD 'Check Warranty Coverage Status' page.

    • +1

thinking about upgrading my 1tb steam deck to 2tb now :D

    • I'm sure there are. Avoid the too good to be true deals though like 2tb for $20. I've purchased one of these and it's working great in the ROG Ally. Just need time to play games..

    • This has been around for a long time. They are legit.

  • Not sure join team link works?

  • Codes don’t seem to be working. Both the website and app ‘accept’ the code but the price doesn’t change.

    • yeah i had that at first.. just refreshed or reclicked the ozb link and it eventually worked for me. (the price showed as $135 without having to enter a coupon).

hmm.. if you go via topcashback for the '18% off'.. the price jumps up like 20% lol.

  • +3

I'm getting "cant be shipped to your region" when I try to buy it. (Only on the 2TB…can buy the 1TB)

    • 2TB worked a moment ago.. but I get the same error now.. maybe OOS or glitch

  • +1

    :-(
Getting: This item can't be shipped to the selected region.
    Address is in Sydney

    • +1

      Same

  • I have a PC with Gigabyte B650M Gaming Plus WiFi motherboard which has PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe M.2 slots (Socket 3, M-Key). Can this ssd be connected to that motherboard somehow?

    • +2

I think you'd just need a bracket to extend it out to from 2230 to 2280 in order to reach the usual mounting holes on the board. They appear to be available on AliExpress for about USD$0.6

Basically just a blank pcb of the right size and screw holes. You can get away with printing one in plastic too if you happen to have a 3d printer.

      • Thanks

  • The 1TB is still a bargain lol

  • Lenovo Legion Go uses a 2242 M.2 NVMe so you will need an adapter for it to sit nicely in the slot. That said, I just printed mine but you can get proper adapters.

This item can't be shipped to the selected region.

  • Expired … bummer. Would have loved to buy the 1tb one.

  • +1

There must be more stock, I was able to purchase the 2TB drive with the AUWS16 code for the price listed above. Time to give the Steam Deck an upgrade!

    • Just got one as well for my SD :)

  • Still working. Just ordered one for my Legion Go.

    • Legion Go uses 2242, not 2230.
      Any sale on 2242 ?

      • Just use a adapter

  • Any cheap small 2280 sizes for my Nas' OS?

  • Was so excited with 88.13, but then noticed it's in US$ ;(

    • ha ha, same here

  • Was getting the "This item can't be shipped to the selected region" earlier this morning for the 2TB, but tried again now and it worked. Thanks OP.

  • I kept getting cant be shipped, but eventually got it at $135 in the nick of time, with 1 stock left.

  • Thanks still working

  • Awesome - grabbed one!

  • Just grabbed one thanks

  • +1

Grabbed one. Ordered in the morning.
2TB in the Steam Deck. Don't know for what, but doesn't hurt to be prepared.

  • Damn, all gone.

  • Back in stock, just got it for USD 87.28

Received my SSD yesterday. Was a bit worried when I checked the serial on the WD site as it mentioned it was 1TB. But when I plugged it in via caddy, it showed up as 2TB.

For those upgrading their Steam Deck, I followed this tutorial which made the process very straightforward:

    https://youtu.be/MVKs2WntK5w

Only slight difference was I had to remove the heat shield first before disconnecting the battery. Took around 30 mins to clone the drive and install it into the Steam Deck. Now I have more storage than I know what to do with at the moment :)
