  • Thank you for sharing this

If you go to the Inglewood Coffee Roasters' home page (https://inglewoodcoffeeroasters.com.au/), you can see the offer on one of the rotating banners. This is just to confirm that the deal is open to the first 500 orders, as opposed to targetted

    • Yep saw the email and quickly got 2 1kg beans :D

  • +3

$35 delivered for beans can't complain. I randomly chose Boodja. Hopefully a good blend.

    • +1

Got that one on the go now, very happy. I usually get Sunset Blvd, but was pleasantly surprised with Boodja. Gone Sugar Daddy this time

      • What is the difference in taste of Boodja vs Sunset? I usually get the sunset.

        • +1

Sunset is a great middle ground for lattes, a lighter medium roast. If you like mellower flavour. Boodja is a bit stronger but not my much but had a nice butterscotch profile that came through

        • +1

I didn’t really like Boodja. It's darker and more bitter compared to Sunset.

    • I choose this one too.. was pleasantly surprised to find coffee beans from my hometown 🙂

    • Used to be about 25 delivered in Melb not that long ago. Aldi luxe blend has also gone up in price, from about 22 to 27

  • Was about to post this deal.

I was considering a bag of the Sugar Daddy yesterday, but at 50% I pulled the trigger. Still got a bag of Roosevelt to use up from the last deal too.

    • -7

clearly oversold by marketing names. its effing coffee lol

      • +4

Nope, I like their coffee and the flavour profile (as over-descriptive as it generally is) sounds good.

        Enjoy your International Roast

        • +6

          Boom - Roasted!

        • -1

I once did a blind tasting test at home with a coffee afficianado. They couldn't tell which one is Aldi beans. LMAO. It's a fun test to perform.

          • +2

@Naigrabzo: Your friend is lying 😙

            • -1

@Ingram: Wasn't my friend. He couldn't tell which coffee was which. He got about 50% of time correct though. So a coin toss sort of thing.

Try it and see. I reckon if you can tell, then you should spend the money. Otherwise what's the point?

              • @Naigrabzo: What was your brewing method?

                • -1

@AncientWisdom: Just the usual BES 920 dual boiler that I have. I have a Breville smart grinder. Experiment was controlled and the only thing that changed was passage of time (unavoidable when making coffees) and of course the beans.

I plan to repeat it this year when guests come for X mas.

If you are interested in blinded taste tests for wine and coffee. Have a look online.

Most people can't tell and shouldn't really be spending big on these items.

              • +2

@Naigrabzo: Honestly, I got into "proper" Coffee in the last few months, I used to just have instant as I need it to function. I'm at the Pourover level, I got a sampler pack recently as I needed to see if the fuss was actually anything.

Had 3 beans, Different single-origins from Brazil, Ethiopia and El Salvador, I reckon a lot of it is snobbery.. but the Ethiopian clearly tastes like dark fruits, the Brazillian has a weird vegetal and the El Savador beans taste kind of like green fruits. I've tried all of them in the one day multiple times and they've very distinctive to the point that I am sure I could pick them out..

It's subtle but saying that they aren't different is being a bit obnoxious I think.

                • -1

@BaccyChan: It's all fun and games until you do it yourself. Have you ever tried a blinded tasting. It's quite cool to try and if you haven't, I recommend it. Use those beans you have and maybe add Aldi beans also for fun.

                  • @Naigrabzo: You see I've now finished 2 out of the 3 bags as I clearly liked 2 of them more than the vegetal tasting one. Why would I waste my time doing 'tests' after having 10+ cups of each bean and knowing that they are blatantly different tasting.. I'm back on a cheap blend that tastes smokey/way more roasted. There's no need to do a blind test lol.

                    • @BaccyChan: No problems man. Hopefully I didn't hurt your feelings. You absolutely don't have to do anything but I am just pointing out that a blind taste test is a very interesting experience. It removes all the other factors that can influence one's decision making.

There nothing obnoxious about stating your opinion respectfully and having a civil discussion.

                  • @Naigrabzo: Hell you can even watch this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-iNAyu-ejo and see a guy on youtube drink Coffee with James Hoffman after claiming he doesn't even like the stuff and even he sees an obvious difference between beans.

              • @Naigrabzo: Did you release him afterwards?

          • @Naigrabzo: What other coffees did you use?

            • @kiitos: For my test I used, 3 different beans. One was $60 (I can't remember brand it was very reputable), Other around $40 and of course the Aldi, around $15. My subjects could not tell the difference reliably.

I am kinda hoping to have 5 different beans this year.

              • +1

@Naigrabzo: As someone who's been drinking home ground coffee for a long time - but is also a typical Ozbargainer - you absolutely 100% would be able to tell good coffee beans from average ones.
BUT alot of the result depends on your brewing method (equipment, but also how proficient you are at extracting the coffee well using the equipment you have) and also the beans actually being good. As lots of comments on this very deal demonstrate, you need to find beans that YOU like. A lot of expensive beans are actually quite average. It takes trial and error to find beans that speak to you. Everybody is different so everyone likes different things.

My parents have one of those Breville machine and I've never been able to get an exceptional cup of coffee out of it… Much easier for me to do it with a Delter press, partly because it's simpler but mostly probably because I've obsessed about how to get the best cup of coffee out of it.

If you want to take out the variability of equipment and proficiency out of the equation you can try cupping your coffee. Lots of information out there on how to do it but it's pretty straight forward. We did that recently with James Hoffman's Decaf project and the differences were stark (in our opinion of course). And this was done with the same beans, roasted by the same roasting house with the only difference being the decaffeination method (!).

All of that being said, if you're happy with Aldi beans then great! No need to look any further if you don't care beyond that 🙂

                • @AncientWisdom: I can definitely tell the difference if the experiment is not BLINDED. Once it was double blinded, it was impossible.

Given I can't tell the difference, I opt for the cheaper (est) coffee.

I am merely asking the audience here to try it out. Most here won't even know what double blinded means let alone price placebo, selective bias etc. No harm in mentioning those things for people to learn.

Even trying to perform a double blinded experiement will teach many people important things about our own internal bias and how to be aware of them.

I take your point about equipment and proficiency. But these factors remained the same in my experiement. :) the variability was ONLY the coffee type.

                  • +1

@Naigrabzo: Interesting experiment, I think this guy is definitely right about bias influencing perception of the coffee in terms of taste.

My hypothesis of the true results lies somewhere in the middle of the responses above - different beans can be told apart, but not by anywhere near as much as expected (ie when blinded).

I think the main limitation of your method (unless you've accounted for it already) is the fact that different beans will each taste best (subjective) at different parameters (i.e. grind setting, dose, yield etc). And that is what should be tested - the best tasting coffee each bean can produce, not the taste of each coffee with identical controlled extraction parameters.

Maybe this year you could expand the experiment, pulling multiple shots from each bean (at different grind settings, contact times etc). Thoughts?

                    • @mith: I agree with this assessment. I am not an expert on the grind settings I will admit.

This year I am upgrading my BES920 by putting in a steel thing instead of a plastic where the coffee comes out.. :) I am trying my best to reduce micro and nano plastics dammit. Coffee is a great way of consuming that too btw.

I will try and see whether I can get 'optimum' grind setting but unfortunately it will just be my opinion! I don't have any other conneseuer to help. Then I can just use those settings for the coffees and see.

One other way is to ask the lime blue or whatever what setting they suggest.

It's time consuming but a fun experiment.

I dare anyone to try. Most won't be abe to tell a difference.

What influenzes coffee preferences is mostly brand loyalty, ambience (ie coffee shop or look of the plastic cup that they use (btw amazing way to get your micro plastic intake up), and gender of the coffee waitress, etc etc etc. :)

This also applies to wine btw.

  • Just placed an order - not bad with $3 shipping to Melbourne

  • +16

Brah. Why am I subscribed to their monthly service if it can be had cheaper for just a normal order. This some bollocks. Paying that loyalty tax…..

    • +1

      More like convenience tax.

  • +2

Almost went with 4KG free shipping but decided to control myself with 2kg and $5 shipping.

    • +5

I found freezing beans actually last and keep the flavor way longer than expected. You can grind them straight from the freezer without thawing, so I usually keep just enough in the grinder for a few shots each day.

      • +1

Yes I usually when times are good have 2KG frozen and 1Kg in an airscape cannister does the trick for me. Have no issues with freezing.

      • For optimal consumption, Do you freeze immediately or do you normally wait 7-10 days after roast date then freeze?

Alternatively, could you, perhaps, freeze immediately after roast date, then thaw 7-10 days then consume that way?

        • Don't know the science to it but I usually freeze soon as I receive and thaw for a day before going into cannister.

          • @Ingram: Do you freeze them in airtight containers or just the sealed bag they come packaged in?

            • @Mega Vanillish: I freeze them in smaller ziplock bags. Enough to last about a week. That way, you don't risk defrosting as you take them out of the fridge. You only take out what you need.

            • @Mega Vanillish: I use a pump to suck the air out then chuck them straight in. Usually by the time I receive them it's been 4-7 days post roast.

        • +2

I'm a fan of ONA and visit them quite often. I've received the following advises:
          - Freeze them at their peak, this varies but generally 4-7 days after roast date.
          - Air and moisture are enemy: store them in individual airtight bag/container. The more premium coffee, the smaller the portion. ONA stores single doses of their premium/competition beans in centrifuge tubes. For daily beans, I generally store 1kg in 5 ziplock bags. I have a small freezer just for beans that can easily hold 8kg if needed. Label the date, even frozen they do age over time, I have never gone longer than 4 months but they should last much longer.
          - For espresso, milk-based drinks, frozen beans can go straight to grinder, the dry frozen beans actually crack better leading to more consistent particles. For filter, let the beans thaw in room temp for 5-10 minutes.

          • @rookie317: Those coles glass containers have a vaccuum pump to remove air if that helps before freezing.

Also might help a little with micro and nano plastics by mostly avoiding plastic contact.

  • Thanks OP, going to try the 888!

  • any good strong beans for an automatic coffee machine?

  • Which blends are best?

    • +1

Depends on what you like. For me downtown hits my tastebuds. Love coffee from Vietnam.

Regularly used sunset bvld but it was a bit weak for my liking.

      • Thanks! I actually went with sugar daddy.
        Fingers crossed!

  • +1

Showing as full price. Is there a way to get the 50 percent off to show in cart?

    • The 50% is applied in the cart. Try adding a 1KG you want to try out.

  • managed to stack with $10 off voucher I had, got 2 x 1kg downtown delivered for $60

    • How did you manage that? I get there was a problem applying your discount

      • I had the same issue!

        • same. unable to add extra voucher

  • +1

I keep trying the limited edition ones and being mostly underwhelmed rather than going with downtown, which is what I usually enjoy 🤦‍♂️

    • It varies - Santa’s Little Helper was an excellent LE blend

Got the 888 this time, pounded nice. Sugar Daddy was meh last time I had it, ditto Bloom

      • Lazy daze was the best out of all imo (most floral). Long weekend blend tasted quite generic to me and so did bloom, which is surprising given the rave about its Ethiopian beans—something suss there.

  • Do thet have any dark roasts? I checked a few descriptions and cannot see information about light/dark in the descriptions.

    • +1

      downtown mentioned dark

    • +1

I believe their Roosevelt is a medium-dark roast from Inglewood

    • +2

      Go for downtown

  • Does anyone have recommendations on matcha powder?

    Hjacking this thread.

    • I have purchased the matcha powder from Inglewood before. Sometimes they have 50% storewide deals (not this one) and it includes the matcha powder, so keep an eye on these deals, even though there is a global shortage on matcha powder

The quality of the powder is decent enough for home consumption

      • Thank you. Can I ask what’s your go-to store right now?

        • I bought so much from Inglewood that I haven’t tried other stores

The powder isn’t ceremonial quality, but it’s good enough for home use

  • Didn't stack with 15% off for first order

    • How did you get the 50 percent to work originally?

    • Usually those first orders are on fully marked prices. Though I could be wrong.

  • Thanks! Can’t go wrong with 1kg at that price. Reviews also seem good and if it’s good enough for Patty Mills then it’s good enough for me!

  • $5 shipping for me. Not fair

  • +1

Why Sydney roasters never do any specials? Many good ones around Marrickville and Surry Hills.

  • How does the downtown compare to the lime blue brazil SO? that's normally my go to but have run out so need something ASAP

    • I definitely like downtown better, but then again, I haven't been very into brazilian beans so YMMV

  • Their ATL is 60% off with $120-$300 spend based on previous sales.

  • +1

Ive tried a few of their blends but for me hands down the Bloom is the best for lattes & cappucinos, very good crema and has a artisan like fruity taste.

    • +1

Heck yeah. It's my fav too. So smooth milk based.

  • Pity there’s no delayed shipping I’ve got enough now but will need some later

  • nice, I ordered Boodja for $35 delivered to Sydney

  • Great timing, was about to order 1kg of coffee tonight — OzB to the rescue.

Never ordered from these guys but liked the sound of Downtown. Fingers crossed it's good!

    • +1

Downtown is my pick of choice followed by Roosevelt. Wasn't a fan of sunset blvd.

      • Same. Tried fireside as well, not a fan

  • +1

My favourite Bloom goes hard on my Bambino Plus. 18g in 33g out @ 28s.

  • +5

Have these guys sorted their bags yet and made them resealable like Lime Blue? The one thing that's turned me off them is the convenience of a resealable bag. First world problem I know 🤣

  • My fav is Sunset Blvd, fantastic blend, drink it daily.
I've tried Bloom before and its good.

Gonna try Boodja this time due to the recco's above

  • Recently saw a deal and got the lime blue single origin. Liked it. Anyone who tasted both to give an insight about how this compares with lime blue in general?

    • I'm not a conessaiuer so can't comment specifically on taste, but I've been getting coffee from both Lime Blue and Inglewood for a while and they're both really good, highly recommended.

      • I prefer the decaf from Inglewood to the decaf from Lime Blue. Decaf treatment and roasting is much more difficult than for normal beans, so it varies more. For the normal full caf, both are good in my experience.

  • Lime blue is usually around $28/kg but this deal is approx $33/kg, is the coffee a lot better?

I was about to add 3 x 1kg of Roosevelt, sunset blvd and downtown but it’s $99.50 (and a bit sucky that it’s 50c short of free shipping)!

  • Perfect timing. Just emptied the last of the Roosevelt into the grinder.

  • highly rate these guys, have an ongoing subscription i signed up during their last sale, now whenever i see these flash sales i rechedule my subscription to skip the next order and i get to enjoy these new limited edition sales.

  • I have just ordered a 1kg bag and wanted to add another without paying another 5 dollars for delivery . I have tried to contact them via online chat. Has anyone had success changing their orders after placing an order ? Please advise

  • I usually get ALDI Lazzio Luxe and I like it.

Which blend comes close to this?

  • I got Downtown in their last sale, it was ok. Keen to try a different flavour now and have limited to no experience when it comes to coffee beans. Which is likely to be closest taste to a campos bean flavour you often get at cafes? Lol

    • +1

Try Sunset Blvd if Downtown didn't quite do it for you

  • -1

    Any love for Decaf?

  • Thank you! Picked up the Ethiopia, Qunquna, Sidama - Filter Roast. Have no reviews but wanted to try. Anyone tried this one before?

  • -1

I put my email into the checkout and then changed my mind. They've sent me three emails so far. So scummy.
