nbn 25/10 $55/Month, nbn 500/50 (FTTP or HFC) $85/M (Includes a Static IP, WireGuard VPN, 5 Day Free Trial) @ Neptune Internet

910

These are ongoing nbn prices and include extras such as a Static IP, WireGuard VPN server, DNS Filter and 5 Day Free Trial.

25/10 $55/month ongoing (all nbn technology types).
500/50 $85/month ongoing (nbn FTTP and HFC only).

No contract and Australian tech support.

VPN locations: Melbourne, Sydney, London, Chicago, Santa Clara, Los Angeles, Toronto, Tokyo, Singapore and Amsterdam.

  • L2 ISP, NBN tails: All NBN services are delivered over Superloop’s TC-4 aggregation service, covering all 121 NBN POIs nationwide.
  • IP Transit: Provided through a combination of GSL and NextHop, aiming for reliable and redundant domestic and international connectivity.
  • Peering: We maintain direct peering relationships with EdgeIX. See our Peering DB page.
  • Connection type: IPoE/DHCP for IPv4 and IPv6.
  • Our network footprint is growing. We've got presence in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney today, with plans to launch in the other capitals this year.

Hey WA customers, we've added a trial for Perth signups. These signups will connect directly to the POP in Perth. Orders will take about 30–40 minutes to process, as they go through Aussie Broadband's ordering system. These orders are still automatic but a bit slower than via Superloop.

Sometimes orders may get stuck and this could last throughout the weekend. In such cases, we can still onboard you via Superloop's aggregation but that will be terminated in Sydney. We now have a few services running in WA, and everything looks good.

Over the coming days, we'll be migrating the rest of our WA subscribers from the Sydney POP to the Perth POP, and we'll send an additional notification about this.

  • +12

I am a fan of this RSP and would recommend them.

    But… where’s the bargain? This isn’t OzRRP

    • +2

500/50 $85/M thats actually pretty amazing and it is not limited to WA it seems.
Is there anything else comparable in value?

      • I’m with tangerine and I’m paying $69pm for 1000/50 until October and then it goes to 500/50
So yeah, $15 cheaper for the same speed

      • +4

Exetel has is for $80 (though no static IP),
In 3 weeks every 100/20 plan will be 500/50….

        Right now,
Tangerine is $68 for 6 months,
        Superloop/Southern Phone are $85 for 1000/50

      • +7

Nothing comparable with all the included extras.

If you don't need the extras there is Buddy Telco/Exetel ongoing, Leaptel for 12 months and Superloop for 6 months.

      • Leaptel 500/50 for $79.95 for 12 months

    • +11

These are ongoing prices with a good network and extras. It's not for everyone.

      • -6

        Again. Where in the bargain?

Not saying this is not a good RSP, but this isn’t a bargain, it’s stand pricing….

        • +22

Nobody else offers this ongoing with the extras. If your deal hopping or don't need the extras this isn't for you.

        • +11

This to me is a huge bargain! Every other provider is more expensive and not ongoing. Very grateful for the post.

        • +9

A bargain doesn't have to be temporary

    • +2

the 25/10 plan at $55 flat is a great bargain.

  • ISPs are getting competitive. Any negs for this for users in Sydney? I'm with Telco Buddy so far so good.

    • +2

Telco Buddy is just ABB rebranded which has the better network. That's not a slight against Neptune, but when you're that small you just can't compete with them. Just keep expectations in check if you're going to move.

The main benefit of Neptune would be the extra products (e.g dedicated IP for "free", allows you to basically get rid of pihole if you run that) and the fact you get support rather than just live chat with Telco Buddy.

      • Yeah and it's $10 cheaper

      • Dedicated IP? Like static IP? Pihole can get around that and give you a static IP to run a server off of?

        • +6

Poorly worded on my behalf - I meant those were two specific examples of benefits that come with the plan. The first being the dedicated IP, and the second being you can get rid of Pihole because they support DNS sinkholes at the ISP level.

    • Buddy Telco is getting sold to Tangerine.

  • +10

Looks good with the all the inclusions.
Part of being on Ozbargain is being informed of choices, and this looks a worthy choice if looking around at ISPs.

  • No contract and Australian tech support.

Does anyone know if these guys use Superloop tech support or is it just their infratructure? Cheers

    • +4

Superloop infrastructure and Neptune tech support is is Melbourne.

      • +3

Well this sounds more promising for what I need as my Leaptel promo ends in September. And nearly all RSPs are price-jacking the "free speed upgrade" so I've been hunting down an on-shore provider with something like ABB or Superloop as the backbone. Thanks for the info!

        • Oh, i'm in a similar boat, my promo finishes in November. If you do end up using Neptune Internet, please let us know how you find it.

I used to use Superloop/Exetel so I know their infrastructure for me is good, just dont want to jump on the Exetel plan since they only provide CGNat for their new plans.

          • @ProjectZero: Yeah I'll try and remember :-) Superloop infrastructure is great… but their support is utter dog sh*t so I avoid them like the plague.

            • @KangaDrew: How often do you call support?

              • +2

@GTR12: You only need one painful issue to make support quality matter a lot. I had one of those recently with a relative and it was so bad that exetel has effectively lost three accounts (hers, and two of mine) off the back of one terrible interaction.

I'd have zero problem with paid per incident support. I'm sick of dealing with third world CSAs.

        • +6

All good. Some more options that may suit:

Buddy Telco: 1 month free and 500/50 $85/m ongoing.
          Backhaul: Aussie BB.
          Static IPv6 and CG-NAT IPv4. $5/m for a Static IPv4 and to turn off CG-NAT.

          Exetel: 500/50 $80/m ongoing.
          Backhaul: Superloop.
          Static IPv6 and CG-NAT IPv4. No Static IPv4 and you can't turn off CG-NAT.

          • +1

            @Twix: Legend, thanks!

          • +1

@Twix: There is TopShopback $100 cashback offer on Exetel. That is $16 off per month for 6 months (or $33 off for 3 months). Probably better to stay 6 months given the long wait for that $100 cashback.

For someone who doesn't mind waiting for a few months to join this (to get static IP), join Exetel for 6 months (bear with CGNAT), after getting the cashback, churn to this. Also, check for your bank's NBN discount offer(s). You might be pleasantly surprised (though it depends on the award level you are on).

  • Meh, Not really a bargain but good it's been posted here, good to have the information.

  • +1

Looking at churning out of Leaptel.. Would there be a good reason to choose this company vs exetel or cabon comms? Looking at 500/50, 750/50 or 1000/50. Or if someone already posted something similar to my question, please share the link and I'll read there instead.

    Thanks in advance!

    • unless you need the static ip, this is $5 more expensive per month.

  • +1

If you're already running Unifi (with their built in free Ad Blocking & Content Filtering and Wireguard VPN) I presume you wouldn't use the Neptune Extra's (other than Static IP)?

    • Yeah but it's included anyways

    • Neptune VPN has more regions: Melbourne, Sydney, Chicago, Santa Clara, Los Angeles, Toronto, Tokyo, Singapore, and Amsterdam

Your UniFi home Wireguard VPN is more to VPN to your own home network.

  • +3

Just switched from superloop… Waiting to reconnect.
+ They take Amex for billing without surcharge!

    • Me too. Unfortunately SuperLoop is now trying to charge me for 30 days of service.

      I’ll be calling them tomorrow.

      • Yeah same. I read on Whirlpool that the 30 days notice was introduced in early 2023 and I joined them in late 2022 so hopefully I can get out of it

  • +4

I've just moved to these guys from Leaptel, felt like changing it up. They have been awesome, great service, get 12ms ping in CS2 and I'm based in Melbourne. There atmosphere DNS is cool, can enable adblocking lists, which blocks ads on all devices connected to your router. No need for adblock on your phone. Speeds are great as well and they quickly respond on live chat!

Just to add, Leaptel are awesome as well

  • +2

$85 for 500/50 with a static IP is a really good deal. Probably will switch to them once the discounted period with my current ISP is over.

    • +9

Please show a cheaper ISP with better ongoing pricing, includes a Static IPv4, has IPv6 and uses Superloop and GSL transit.

    • Well, I just signed up today thanks to this thread. CS was fast and competent. It was either this or the Leaptel thread as both have reports of competent CS but this one comes with a static IP.

Not sure why you got so wound up about this thread.

  • +2

I don't know if its a good idea having your ISP as your VPN provider, I would think it defeats the purpose of a VPN. Is it with a third party like GSL, M247, etc. ? Unless I missed it on their website, the VPN information are light on details.

Same with DNS, I would think it defeats the purpose, having your ISP filtering and resolving queries.

+1 for the static IP address!

    • +2

Neptune use Gcore and Linode for VPN at most locations.

DNS is based on Pi-hole. You can change it to whatever DNS you want.

      • Thank you for the link.

Is there any information on transparency, logging, data retention, privacy protection?

This is an Australian based and owned VPN provider?

        • +1

I don't know, ask Neptune directly.

    • +2

I don't know if its a good idea having your ISP as your VPN provider

      Why?

I would think it defeats the purpose of a VPN

So are you saying that you want a seperate VPN because the purpose of a VPN is to hide yourself for piracy?

Because that's not the purpose of a VPN, and it's not why Neptune are offering it.

VPN is hosted in our Datacenter and is not designed for anonymisation. The use case is more if your preference is to traverse NBN access network encrypted or while travelling get an Australian ip address. We do have plans to have it in other locations. Will happen soon.
      https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3z4ym60y?p=2#r7487772…

      • Thanks for that, I was highly puzzled as to why they were providing VPN. Now I am only slightly puzzled :)

      • So are you saying that you want a seperate VPN because the purpose of a VPN is to hide yourself for piracy?

VPN use cases are explained on Neptunes' website, refer to Twix's link above.

Because that's not the purpose of a VPN, and it's not why Neptune are offering it.

It is (now) multi-region, I think a little more than solely having an Australian IP address, and ties in with their use cases.

Thank you for the reference to Whirpool, some further links there that are of interest.

      • +2

To be fair, Neptune does state that "your privacy and security aren't optional. These are priorities we build around" on their homepage and lists the VPN service as a selling point for that.

I do think that can be misinterpreted as the VPN service as having the usual features you expect from privacy focused providers (e.g. no logs) - obviously it's impossible for any Australian service provider to do that legally, but people don't always know that.

    • +2

VPN servers are hosted in their Datacenters and cloud provider(s). They are not designed for anonymisation. My guess is Neptune tech staff wanted to setup some VPNs for themselves (to overcome geo-blocking), but sugar coated them as extra features for the customers (to keep boss happy).

You may get better performance since it is Wireguard based. However, I would assume you will be logged. Also, CGNAT is used for those VPNs.

Same for that DNS filter. Most likely some staff wanted to setup Pi-hole on server(s).

  • No 1000/50 no deal.

    • +2

      1000/50 is $105/m ongoing.

  • +3

Have been with Neptune for around 4 months now. Customer service is top notch! Network has been fantastic.

    • +1

Their support is absolutely fantastic I agree. The speed is also great of course. Love that they publish network congestion etc and really listen when we ask for something.

  • Thinking about doing this. Anyone know what the transfer process is like? Do I need to cancel my existing service before signing up?

    • +1

Signup to Neptune online. Most times your existing ISP gets cancelled automatically. Contact your existing ISP if they don't email you.

      • +1

        Cheers

        • +2

Careful Exetel and tpg will charge you 30 days from the “notice” so if you just move over they will bill you another month.

          • @internet-stranger: Thanks for the heads up!

          • @internet-stranger: Quote ACCC for charging for services not provided and they will waive it.

            • +1

@brifog: If the contract says you must provide 30 days notice then is not about services, it’s about the contract.

Lots of talk about this specifically for TPG and Exetel on other forums. Lots of people raising TIO complaints as well.

End of the day, they may refund/drop the invoice but it’s a lot of work, time and stress vs planning 30 days out.

              • @internet-stranger: True. I've gotten a termination notice waived (for another service) and it was a bit of back and forth over about a week. I will attempt it here but probably won't push it. (Or maybe I will, I dunno)

              • @internet-stranger: Not really, a single email is all it has taken for me to get a pro rata bill from both Exetel and Leaptel.

                • +2

@brifog: Yep you're right. Just got it waived by Exetel. Called them to cancel and just told them I'd like for the 30 days notice to be waived and they said yes. I was getting ready to argue so was little surprised there was no push back. Anyway, kinda proves the point that it's a stupid term in the contract.

    • Do I need to cancel my existing service before signing up?

That depends on your NBN technology

  • Have Neptune announced if their speed tiers are changing after mid-September? When the NBN speed changes come through.

    • +1

Neptune will have the new speeds. More details here.

  • -8

    This is expensive

    • +1

Who else offers the same speed and FEATURES for a lower price?

  • +2

    Their website is so quick.

Kmart and Coles should take note.

  • Wish I had found this deal a few days sooner. Now I'm stuck with Mates for another month at $96 and 100/20. Looked at Exetel but I need a static IP and their support has very bad reviews.

    • +1

      This new pricing started yesterday.

      • +1

I'll wait another month and then switch over. Thanks for sharing!

  • How does Atmosphere DNS compare to Open DNS?

  • +4

what I find amazing is they list the active and non-active NTD port for activation. +1 for that.

  • +3

Currently on Exetel and will be until I get my cashback. I don't host any servers but CGNAT continues to cause problems for me. Increased captchas, website bans and rate limits.

Definitely looking forward to this deal to get my own IP.

Fyi, this is a great deal for static IP. Ignore the trolls. Cheers!

    • Oh so that's why I've been seeing those!? Am also with Exetel and can't remember when it started, but it was maybe a few months ago when I was seeing a lot of captchas. I haven't seen any recently but I do get these cloudfare checks before getting to certain pages — wonder if that's related.

      • +2

Cloudflare checks are not related - they pop up on normal unshared IP addresses too.

    • On CG-NAT with the new Extel One plan, and think I'm getting the increased captchas,
but not website bans and rate limits - can you give more details?
For me, otherwise everything working fine on CG-NAT.

      • +1

I can't remember the site but my IP was banned. That was my first time using the site. I also remember a long time ago my IP was banned from contributing to Wikipedia because someone else was vandalising articles.

As for the rate limits I recall a few sites telling me to slow down because there was too much traffic coming from my IP. I remember I wanted to download something from mega.nz and it told me I had to wait to reset my daily download quota. Because someone else on my IP address used up the quota already!

I've also been having so many issues with Microsoft logins. Infinite redirects, and straight up "that didn't work, please try again" errors.

Never had an issue on a dynamic IP before.

        • Sounds like these problems were from a while ago? - or are these more recently on Exetel?
If current, then yes - that sounds bad.

On Exetel I'm using IPv6 with dual stack CG-NAT IPv4 - maybe using IPv6 is bypassing these other issues.

          • @pencilman: Wikipedia was when I was on CGNAT years ago.

Everything else has happened since I moved to Exetel with CGNAT 2 months

        • Microsoft logins have some problems at the moment, I see those same issues at work and at home sometimes, and neither connection are using any kind of IP sharing. This particular one is not related to your CG-NAT.

  • After a couple hiccoughs initially,
all setup and working well… really really well.
Support via chat was excellent … Thanks Murray..

The five day trial period is what convinced me..
Downgraded my FTTP Launtel from 1000/50 to 250/50 to make room on the NTD..
but signed up too quickly. .. after the change.. which lead to some issues..

For those in Melbourne.. .. its definitely worth a try..

  • I am with Neptune for NBN and I'm very happy!

    some thoughts:

their portal has everything a nerd could want to manage the NBN service.
billing could use a make a one time payment option or pay in parts options?

    speedtest results: https://www.speedtest.net/result/18151746349

  • +1

I am a Neptune customer and I can say it's miles ahead of anything else when all things are considered. Its a good honest ISP with very helpful and knowledgeable staff should you need assistance. If you are in any sort of doubt, they have the free trial. Give them a go and see for yourself.
