I just got my two Ryzen 7500F CPUs delivered from AliExpress yesterday that i paid $129 total cost for plus $18 cashback :) and before that i got two Ryzen 7700 for $213 with $24 cashback.

Who still bothers buying intel when you can get deals like that.

And i can upgrade to Zen6 or Zen7 when they cone out…

From what I can tell there are people who still want/need Intel's encoding for things like Plex

Either that or die-hard Intel fans that haven't gotten the memo that team blue has fallen. There aren't many but you can still see people who haven't built in over a decade asking about Intel builds on Reddit buildapc threads

      • +3

Yeah its a shame AliExpress doesnt do deals on intel CPUs to help lower prices in gereral for both. Its strange they dont. Because even today intel still produces the volume of CPUs for the market.. (mostly going into laptops) and AMD CEO lisa sue even said she has a production issue. AMD cant make enough to take more market share and they are buying everything TCMS can give them.. I think thats because of Nvidia. The US Government never needed to buy intel to save its domestic chip market as AMD is also an American company and TSMC is building fabs in the US.

ALSO - as for "Intel's encoding" This CPU doesnt have a built in GPU for intel quicksync incooding

You will need to get a intel GPU for that if buying this CPU

      • +3

oh, i haven't gotten the memo it seems. I used to upgrade my pc and be all over processors YEARS ago, then i switched to laptops and I dn't renew them that often. Are AMD better in general nowadays for things like gaming and general computer use, considering performance per $ spent?

        • +7

AMD wins on price, performance, power usage, less cooling required and has the fastest gaming CPU.
AMD also wins on platform longevity providing around around 3 to 4 CPU generations vs intel's 1 to 2

Its not looking good for intel at the moment. They are close to going bankrupt as AMD, NVidia and ARM Processors have been eating into their lucrative server market.

          • @vid_ghost: For 'power usage' for Desktop Processors particularly, substitute with 'Power Efficiency at load'.

Intel chips generally still win for efficiency at idle/office loads for the most part especially in the lower end ranges due to the architecture.
Hoping for better results in this space with those new AMD chips on the horizon.

I think in the laptop market it's still another story also.

Also Apple using their own designed CPU cost Intel a major client.

            Intel has lost it ways
but if they go bankrupt, it will not be good for competition and innovation..
since AMD might just become like Nvidia (but for CPU)

Love AMD in my desktop, hate it in my laptop!

Best combo imo is an AMD CPU and NVIDIA gpu. I did go AMD GPU with my most recent build, but probably won't get it again when I refresh

          • @R3STRIKT3D:

What didn't you like about AMD GPU?
which model you got and how much paid?

Yeah sure most people would want to get nvidia but they don't give a shit about gamers anymore (ie focusing on selling AI chips to businesses)
and nvidia started and has maintained the whole overpriced GPU situation we are in now.

Nvidia new GPUs are nowadays overpriced and they use misleading marketing AI numbers to make it seem like their GPUs are significantly better than their last gen and good value for money e.g. 5070 = 4090 bullshit marketing.

AI market bubble needs to burst for nvidia to go back to focusing on gaming/GPU market

            • @pinkybrain: I have the 7900XTX, and yeah totally agree that nvidia has kept the current situation going! Definitely a price/performance decision, and will only go back to nvidia if the prices aren't too different from the AMD equivalent. I think at the time I was deciding between a 7900xtx and a 4080 (maybe super?) Couldn't justify the price difference which was at least $500 at the time for a few extra frames/RT

For me there was some issues I had with games that from what I could see were AMD specific, and totally based on personal experience, I felt that when I had an NVIDIA card, I could solve the issue/workaround till official fix faster than what I have done with this AMD card. Lately it has been pretty good though!

One issue that was super annoying was Kingdom hearts had been on epic games since like 2021 but had an issue on AMD cards where it would crash after like 20 mins of gameplay. Came to steam in 2024 and it took a while before the issue was addressed and fixed in a driver update/game update.

DLSS is better than FSR (well, 3.0 anyway) and games that make good use of Ray Tracing are borderline unplayable on AMD :( But that's a nice to have rather than a needs to have.

Also for me with occasional streaming, video editing etc NVENC does it better, and I miss the NVIDIA broadcast app which had really good noise/echo removal from the mic, and noise removal from webcam etc, was really a game changer for me!

If I'm not mistaken, AMD consider the 9070xt a mid-tier GPU and not a flagship. I may reconsider if they reintroduce something that competes with the 5080/90 or 6080/90

      • +1

Correct. Intel is still the way to go for homelab usage due to how good Quicksync is, and also Intel's idle power consumption still beats out AMD. This chip however is no good for that due to lacking integrated graphics (F type CPU).

    • +2

i think amd's lack of socket change , has been one of their biggest strengths

even if some people dont even change their cpu for their life of that pc

but its the knowledge knowing you can upgrade a cpu in 5 years and theirs a good performance boost and also its actually available

intel need/needed to adopt this, i thought they were going to with 12th gen, but that didnt stick

    • +1

yeah i like Australian warranty wouldn't get a grey import.

      • Plus, the 7500F's he's talking about are used, not new.

      • +1

cpu are pretty hard to fail

        • +2

you don't risk it with grey imports with any pc part.

    • +1

Who still bothers buying intel when you can get deals like that.

Multi-core performance. The 7500F has 6 cores vs 10 cores on the i4400F.

  • +5

What the…this is only 13-18% more processing power than a 12100F!? And comparing like for like 14100f is only 3%?

I can see why Intel is struggling. Shouldn't have gotten on the Intel train. :(

    So much for Moore's law.

    • +3

Also 12400F CPU's have been around this price for years

    • +3

Should never expect a huge jump in single threaded performance, though for multi threaded performance it should be almost double a 12100F.

    • +1

What the…this is only 13-18% more processing power than a 12100F!? And comparing like for like 14100f is only 3%?

      4 cores (i3) vs 10 cores (i5).

You're right that in single-core performance, e.g. simple games, you won't see much difference across the entire intel suite from i3-i9, for example you might only see an increase of 20% more fps between i3 and i9. But for more complex tasks like multi-tasking, video editing, 3D rendering, data analysis, you will see a big difference in chips with more cores.

    223 locally with bf6

  • I have a 12600kf is this faster

    • +3

      Nope

    • If you're overclocking the 12600kf it will still be better. On the plus side 14400f is more efficient. Probably not worth the upgrade imo.

Would any Aussie retailer price match Amazon?

  • Intel needs your donations, please cough up lol.
That one time Intel decided to talk shit to Qualcomm, now they could be bought out by Qualcomm.

    • they could be bought out by Qualcomm.

Isn't Intel going to be partially owned by US Government?

Unlikely for Qualcomm to buy Intel
considering that Intel desktop CPUs are not that in demand anymore..
