hm, would go nicely with htpc

    • It does.

      Plug and play.

      Lightweight.

A bit cramped. Awkward to type on your lap.

I probably should have went with a full-size keyboard and mouse combo on a tray setup.

I wouldn't want to be typing an essay on this, but having the trackpad built in is great for attaching to headless servers or media pcs when you just need to enter passwords or a few commands.
The only irritating things about mine (which is probably 10 years old) is the battery cover tabs broke off, and it doesn't have a slot for the ish connector, so I have lost one ($8 replacements on Ali).

The design looks to have been updated, so maybe these aren't issues anymore.

I have played an embarrassing number of hours of games on the TV using this keyboard. It's really the perfect htpc keyboard. Can survive hundreds of drops without a scratch

        • If you have a 3d printer or your friend has one, you can consider have that battery cover printed yourself.

      • @kungfuman This looks good, does it have air mouse functionality?

I have this keyboard. It is literal garbage.

    • What don't you like about it? Just build quality?

I've been looking for a keyboard with trackpad but this one has the best reviews, except for the discontinued K830.

      • +7

Functionality wise, it does what you want. It has a keyboard. It has a trackpad. It's wireless. It works.

Everything else about it is dreadful. The build quality is dreadful. The keys are terrible to type on. The trackpad feels super cheap. The whole thing is just cheap plastic.

        • this. It's not an enjoyable experience to use at all. Keys are mushy/crap/feel like rubbish, the trackpad is basic (doesn't support gestures beyond two finger scroll) and the only positive thing I have to say is it uses the standard Logitech unifying receiver (so you can pair it with basic Logitech mice) and Logitech were clever enough to include the click button in top left so you can use it on your lap.

If you use it for say a HTPC just to click a few buttons or type a few things then it's fine (that's what I use it for) but I wouldn't recommend anything more than that.

Given what it is, I'm not sure there is a nicer competitor in a similar form factor. Would love if there was something a bit more premium available though.

I've certainly used worse keyboards. The dell keyboard that every single office desk had between 2010 and 2015 is much worse to type on in my opinion, although it does have the benefit of a full size layout. I've played EU4 in front of the TV for hours and while using a trackpad for that long is cramp inducing, the trackpad is tolerable. Worse than my MacBook for certain but honestly the average laptop is way worse, my partner has a surface laptop for work and she would trade the trackpad on that for the one of this keyboard any day of the week.

          • @def: I'd happily spend $100 on a premium version, especially if it had features like backlighting, USB-C, etc, but all of the ones I find that have those features are from brand like Rapoo, which I've had bad experiences with, and they all have neutral reviews at best.

    • Can you elaborate at all? Garbage as in for daily use it sucks or it is just flat out bad?

      • +1

It feels incredibly cheap. I'm holding mine right now and it's like you can wobble it.

I think it might be alright if you're using it occasionally on the couch to type in a movie name, but it's just terrible to type on.

    • I kind of agree with this, it's not great and I am pretty sure you need the logitech software so the F keys behave as normal.

I use this to fix it but probably need to get around to having it as a scheduled task so it persists across reboots
      https://github.com/h8man/k400p-fn-lock-win

That said I am not sure what other options there are that are comparable. It's convenient whenever you don't have the ability to use a mouse and there isn't much else in the price range so its probably why it feels like crap to use but you aren't really meant to use it for extended periods of time.

Even at this discounted price it feels way worse to use than cheaper wireless keyboard and mouse combos but I am guessing this is a lower volume product with no competition so we get what is served up.

      • Wait it’s possible to make the Function keys register as standard function input only instead of the media playback?

Please elaborate if you can, it’s one of the pain points with this keyboard for me

Logitech = Garbage get a keychron if you like good keyboards.

These things are super handy. I've had one for a few years now. The keyboard and touchpad combo works nicely for workbench (building/fixing PCs, Raspberry Pis, etc.), HTPC, and other light usage. The fact you can just USB in to "anything" makes it very convenient and at this price it's almost a no-brainer.

I have this, and while it does feel a bit plasticky it’s been very reliable. 5+ years of use almost daily, dropped and banged around and it’s still going strong. Easy recommend for living room PC.

  • +3

Just to sum up the other comments:

    • You probably don't want to use this as your everyday keyboard.

    • It's incredibly handy for adding a keyboard and mouse to things temporarily. It uses a tiny little USB transceiver that slots into the keyboard when not in use and can plug in anywhere; and being wireless you don't need to worry about cables. Oh, and the batteries are AAs and replaceable.

I bought mine ages ago at Aldi and it's been really handy; if you're the kind of person that messes with servers and HTPCs etc. you probably will too.

MSY/Umart have this for $49. You can get Officeworks to price match (& -5%).

I have this keyboard. Agree the keys are rubbish but it does functionality serve its purpose as a single unit that integrates keyboard and trackpad. Good for using with raspberry pies or home lab PCs for example.
