Why this deal rocks right now:

  • Battery prices are dropping: Home batteries are now being added to 1 in 5 solar installs (vs 1 in 20 just a few years ago).

  • Federal rebates are live: From July 2025, the Cheaper Home Batteries Program offers a 30% rebate, taking many systems from over $10K down to ~$6K — and this deal already lands at $5,500.

  • Real household impact: Solar + battery setups are helping families slash power bills, sometimes even earning credits.

  • Typical savings: with ~20 kWh daily use and $0.40/kWh electricity cost, you’ll save about $8 per day and usually recoup your investment in under 2 years.

  • NSW only?

    • +1

Hi mate, we are currently servicing NSW, SA and QLD. Have plans to expand to VIC and WA.

      • +2

        Southeast Queensland only.

      • Have any recommendations for trusted colleagues in Vic?

      • How about ACT?
Also how much would it be for the full solar + inverter+battery setup with 10kw panels?

        • They have links for this on their site

          • @Jackson: Which link in their website answers my question about them installing in ACT?
I would like to.know this without having to enter my contact details.

            • @pgsn: Sorry I was only referring to your second question about the bundles with solar

      • Do you have an ETA when the WA base will be established? Would love to have two of these batteries in my garage

  • can this do whole home backup? any demo's for the software?

    • It does not do whole home backup unfortunately. We have an APP. Please get in touch with our specialists if you would like to learn more.

      • +1

can you add some backup circuits?

        • +1

They quoted me $300 per additional backed up circuit.

        • +7

I am looking at a Fox ESS setup as we speak (10kw 3 phase) and I was advised the inverter only supports 10kW supply, and I was advised that if you try to enable whole home backup and ever exceed that, it will trip and that will take down your power more often than you are likely to have a power outage. I am not 100% sure I understood the bloke but that's what I took away.

In my case it would be rare for me to ever use 10kW at once unless I was charging both cars and had the AC on and cooking, but he was reticent to connect it to more than just lights and my GPOs. To be honest this is fine for me anyway really, because it would mean I can exist normally, internet on, can work, tv fine, and if I was cold I can just run a small heater somewhere, and I can cook on gas in n the backyard (unfortunately I don't have a park bbq over the fence)

          • +4

@Jackson: +1 for the BBQ reference

          • +1

@Jackson: A split system RCAC is going use less than almost any small electric heater.

            • @whats up skip: I have a ducted system, it's probably going to used 4 to 6 kw to run at full pelt

          • +1

@Jackson: You also need to consider the per phase limits. The 10kw is basically a peak for AC/DC conversion under ideal conditions, expect it to be lower like around 7kw.
            With 10kw, you can likely do all powerpoints + lights, but you should leave off the EPS ports;
            - Oven, A/C, Fast EV Chargers, Pool Pumps\Heaters, Water Heaters

Sure you can put more on, but you are just asking for trouble. It's perfectly safe the inverter will trip and protect itself.

Also note, EPS is not UPS there is often a small delay in switchover, so computers might restart, clocks reset. Just managing expectations.

        • What is a backup circuit?

Also can we go off grid completely with these battery

  • Will you be able to DC couple in Victoria?
    And blackout protection included?

    • We do not currently service VIC. 2 loads of blackout protection.

    • Let me know if you get vic quotes, I have been looking at this battery all day here in vic.
Seems to be best battery for my scenario

      • What are the cheapest installers you have found for VIC so far?

  • In WA, where can I find good deals on a large battery system to add to my current solar. Or to upgrade the lot?

    • Sorry my friend, we are not servicing WA just yet.

  • +2

Can the battery be charged from the grid during the OVO 11-2 free electricity plan?

    • and can you schedule more than 1 interval to charge from the grid up to a certain percentage?

    • I would like to know too. Can I install this without solar and charge on OVO Free 3 plan?

      • +2

I currently do this with my batteries. however I've got a tesla PW2 and it allows you to set to charge from grid.

Ive got a small solar system so ovo EV plan for me helps alot

    • I think the T&Cs don't allow free charging for EVs and wall battery. But they can't stop us. But it's easy for them to tell if we pay 0c for the usage, isn't it?

Someone might have tried to charge their car for free then use the car battery to power the home night time.

      • +1

EV charging during free period is allowed and explicitly advertised as such.

        Introducing OVO’s Free 3 Plan

Plug in all the things, the kettle and the washing machine, your aircon and your EV. From 11 to 2pm all your electricity usage* is free. Every day.

There’s also a specific EV plan with cheaper overnight rates, as well as including the 3-hours free electricity too.

        • I might be wrong. I remember asking a rep and he said something like free power was supposed for appliances by T&Cs. Tho, I have no issue doing it so far. They buy in for just 2c anyway.

    • You most certainly can.

Hello, what about warranty? What's MPPT?

Who services these when something goes wrong?

    Full terms and conditions please.

If I already have a 10k inverter with my rooftop solar, which system do I need for a double story house?

    • +4

Click the link, their warranty info is halfway down the page.

MPPT, or Maximum Power Point Tracking, is a technology used in solar systems to optimize power output by constantly adjusting the electrical operating point of solar panels to extract the most energy possible under varying conditions like sunlight and temperature. It works by tracking the Maximum Power Point (MPP), the ideal combination of voltage and current for maximum power, and significantly boosts the efficiency of solar charge controllers and inverters, often increasing energy transfer by 20-30%

    • Hi mate, for detailed answers, please click through to our website and reach out to our specialists either via phone or submitting a form.

  • Thanks OP. Would you have any deals on a three phase system that’s a bit smaller with backup say 15-20 kWh? Also can these work with any VPP’s? Thanks again

    • Hi there. We have deals on smaller batteries also. The Fox ESS battery is a stackable battery - 4.66kWh capacity each and stacks up to ~42 kWh.

We are partnered with GLOBIRD for VPP

      • Great could you let us know rough prices?

        • It would still be $5,500. But please get in touch and our specialists may be able to help you out with a different configuration deal.

          • @Steven Y: Okay just to be clear a three phase system, 20 kWh with some level of backup would be 5500?

  • Does NSW = Sydney, or do you service other areas too?

    • We service regional NSW also, but there is an additional distance charge. Please get in touch with us via the link and our specialists will have all your questions answered.

  • Hard to find match Info but can anyone independently give any feedback on these fox batteries?

    • +1

You can read up on facebook energy groups/reddit/whirlpool etc. General consensus is if your needs are basic and happy to take the extra risk of issues then the plus is it'll pay itself off fast. A higher quality and more capable battery solution, for example a 3 phase 48kw stack with Sigenergy, Sungrow, BYD etc will set you back low 20K from my research. Big difference in cost. But, they are much better solutions.

      • Thanks I guess it depends on your definition of what’s better. I’m looking for a reasonably quick payback as I may move in five or six years plus I don’t see much point getting a top notch system that takes 15 to 20 years to get money back.

        • +3

Whats better is whats better. But what is suitable for your requirements is entirely another matter, and its great your looking at it from that angle. Assuming you already have solar panels and understand your power usage profile across summer/winter and overnight, from my reading the more reputable budget options are Sungrow, Goodwe, and Alpha ESS. Everything else is higher risk profile trade off i read too many negative things about that stopped me from bothering to read into them further. My situation is 3 phase, want full backup, limited roof space, want total freedom to use power how i want and no plan to move having started a family, so my requirements pushed me towards Sigenergy as the most suitable. So certainly take my remarks with a huge grain of salt and read further into other brands than i did.

          • @Xizor: From what I can tell neovolt is also a reputable budget brand.

            • +1

@Captain Hindsight: I disregarded VoltX as local support is, or was then, basically non existant. I think components wise they are similar to Alpha ESS, but they at least have some local support. Increased risk with either no doubt, but if i was going down that path id go Alpha personally. Its all risk / reward balance. I may think differently if i only had to live with it for a few years, or i was single phase so everything were simpler.

              • @Xizor: Single phase NeoVolt 20kWh and I started well before the rebate announcement. They are almost impossible to get hold of, as I’ve got a couple of things to still sort out. Luckily it’s all working but the solar reporting is wrong due to a CT mixup.

              • @Xizor: Don’t know about other states but I have had prompt support from Voltx in Sydney. Installed mine in September 24. Had issues with the touchscreen on the inverter. From the initial complaint to new replacement was three weeks with a couple of visits to investigate the issue.
Also raised a complaint to Bytewatt regarding the lack of some features in the app. Got replied by the product engineer from China within two days.

If i recall these FoxESS batteries had some warranty condition where it had to be serviced every year? I could be wrong or its changed but yeah just make sure you go on eyes open for these cheaper / more basic battery solutions. They have their place but its easy to end up in buyers regret down the road.

    • +2

From my research, I believe they removed that condition. It used to say something about an annual inspection required after 5 years had passed, but the current warranty document no longer says that.

      • Good to hear. Things like that are such a drag.

      • Are you sure it doesn't say that any more? Where is the link to the current one? All the documents regardless of version state that you have to pay for an annual inspection after the 5th year so it's really only a 5 year warranty. Every year after that will be a cash grab to get it extended. If you are referring to the warranty they give you in the quote, it's the wrong one as it only covers things that they aren't selling. This must be the gotcha for the cheap price as both the installation and product only has a 5 year warranty included as opposed to 10 years by the VoltX deal.

  • So $5,500 gets me a 42kW battery?!

    • -1

From $5,500 yes :). Additional charges will apply if you require custom setups. Please use the link to get in touch with our specialists.

  • Can you add a 15 x Akio 470W panel to the install?

    Total cost installed?

    • Hi Tim, please reach out to our specialist team via the link.

  • +2

Great prices. Got a quote from them recently for their Ultra Plus package. Their add-ons can increase the price quite a bit. I was quoted $300 extra per backup circuit (after the included two circuits), $500 extra for DC coupled. In my case, that added $1,700 to the price (six circuits backed up and DC coupled).

  • 42kW battery is Single stack ?

    • Nope that's 9x stacked!

    • +1

Yes (but not all useable). 41.93kwh total capacity (37.73kwh usable) in a single stack comprising 9 batteries (one master and 8 slave). I've been doing a bit of research and the Fox ESS system is one I'm considering.

      • Great to hear 👌

      • +1

Also considering it, have you found any other single phase 10kw inverter batterys?

This is one of very few batteries that suits my needs

        • 10kw inverter single phase (can charge and discharge at 10kw)
        • 25-40kwh battery
        • dc coupled
        • cheap!
        • has a home assistant integration so can use it to do automations and track the system

Best price I have been quoted in vic DC coupled it around $7500 mark

      • While I agree you should not discharge 100%, as of last week Fox updated the Firmware and Specifications to allow 100% DOD formerly 90% for EQ.
This is no doubt purely to maximise federal rebates.
Here is a link to the updated data sheet
        https://au.fox-ess.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/EN-EQ4800-…

  • This is considerably cheaper than any others i have gotten quotes from. Im guessing bait and switch

    • +2

Were they quotes for Fox ESS specifically? Different battery solutions vary wildly in price, capability, and reputability. Its interesting reading when you go down the rabbit holes.

    • It'd be interesting to see what happens. The VoltX team have already started contacting people that signed up for the Neovolt bait and told them to switch to Sofar batteries which have almost no reviews on.

  • do you have these on display/functioning in your Rosehill showroom?

    • Hi, will be there next week.

  • +1

Vic need this price for 41kwh

    • have you gotten any quotes yet? Both quotes I got were 7500 for dc coupled

      • Nope

  • Too good to be true?! A part of me hears alarm bells ringing

    • Mate, just get in touch with us. We'll be able to put your doubts to rest, we are based in Parramatta. ☺️

    • Standard prices for FoxESS, in VIC the Plus pack (AC-Coupled) is about <$8000 including blackout protection, bollard, smoke detector, switch upgrade…

NSW is cheaper, I think they can claim some additional state rebates.

      • It's the other way around, VIC has Solar VIC Rebates while NSW only has Federal Rebates. The more rebates = retailers pushing price up = you ends up paying more. It also helps NSW has bigger solar market, more demand but even more supply.

        • Solar Vic don’t have any battery rebates, NSW can get a rebate for joining a VPP

  • Willing to offer a guarantee on install timeline?

    (Ie do you have stock)

    • +1

Install within 90 days as stated in our contract terms. But please reach out to our specialists via the link to confirm all details.

  • Will the inverter support local polling with homeassistant using
    https://github.com/nathanmarlor/foxess_modbus
    ?

    • I am guessing the 10kW inverter will be the KH10, so it should.

      • Yes it should be the KH10
Looked at this battery lots over last 24 hours, I believe the best way is to get an RS485 to ethernet adapter and then connect it to your home assistant server that way rather than using it via ethernet.

From what I researched plugging it into network via ethernet does not allow as much control as using modbus rs485 usb adapter

    • From my research one of these would fit the bill… they work with the nathanmarlor foxess_modbus homeassitant integration.

      Waveshare RS485 to WiFi/Ethernet

      • Do these help with AC-Coupled system?

  • What if I already have a solar system with3
3 phase Fronius gen24. Do you sell batteries separate to add on to an existing system which is battery ready ?

    • +2

Yes but you may find that your fronius gen 24 may not have been the best investment once you have to spend $1000 to unlock the battery side of your inverter. I have heard quite a few people are replacing them with newer inverters with better specs even though they paid extra for a hybrid inverter when they got solar

  • whats the battery chemistry?
