It's actually quite good by today's standards, especially if you pay using a card that earns additional points for spending with Qantas.

Of course, if you're not using your points to book reward flights (ideally in business or first class) then you're probably better off going with one of the other non-points offers on Amazon gift cards, though even those are very modest nowadays.

    • +14

Well then spend the money on Amazon directly and get no points then………

    • +3

Why? If you were going to spend $500 on Amazon over the next year anyways, now you're getting a free 2000 points for spending you would have done anyways.

if you are doing it over a year it is a pretty poor deal, however if you need to buy something now then it is pretty decent and certainly better than nothing.

        • What makes it a poor deal? I don't get your logic

          • -1

@jaygee: Probably opportunity cost. You could invest the $500 and make extra $$ instead of it sitting in your Amazon balance for a year earning nothing.

            • @illusion99: Qantas points are harder to come by. Also, the year was just an example. I'm not going to actually take a year.

          • -1

@jaygee: The longer you take to spend it the more the points are costing you in lost interest or profit if used elsewhere.

  • What are 4 Qantas points worth converting to flights or other purchases these days?

    • 3c on business class, 2 on economy and 1 on gift cards

  • +2

Been buying these for a while on my Qantas card, so get 5 per $1 spent. I think it's a fantastic deal considering Amazon gift cards can't be bought on sale anywhere else.

    • +5

Yes they can on shopback. 2.25% with Shopback Home

      • + Occasional bouns cashback like this.

Nearly all of my Amazon gift cards are 10% off or more.

    • 3% off with budget direct rewards

      • +2

1.25% transaction fee on budget direct rewards though, brings it down to about 1.8% discount

    • ShopBack frequently have $3 off $30 (including gift cards) - today they have $5 off $40 + the base cashback on gift cards.

Not as ideal, but it's something, worth keeping an eye out to save them up :)

Bupa and Macquarie (free to create account), have 3% off Amazon gift cards always.

      • +3

Yup but if you are someone who can get 3c with per point by booking business class seats, that's relatively 12% back per dollar spent.

If you don't use Qantas points then yes upfront cashbacks work better for people.

      • Is Macquarie's gift card marketplace like all others (bupa, ebook, etc) where, after they slug you with 1.X% credit card fees, the actual discount is ~2%?

        • +2

I have been purchasing gift cards at Bupa, and never have paid a credit card fee.

        • +1

No, they take the money directly from your account, there's no charges.

  • is the 4 points per dollar a limited time thing or has it been increased? It was always 3 points per dollar before. Just wondering if i need to jump on it or if its going to be 4 points all the time going forward…

    • +3

4 points per dollar is a limited promotion. You have until 17th September

      • Great, thankyou!

      • So this deal is usually open at 3 points per $?

        • +1

Yep normally 3 pts per dollar, I buy them all the time from Qantas marketplace

  • I can't pay with my credit card.. It's only allowing me to buy with points.. Any idea how to buy with CC?

    • it is default to pay with points but you need to drag the point bar to the right to pay with CC and then Update Payment method.
      it works for me.
      Hope this would help.

  • Thanks OP.

Can you use the Amazon gift card to buy other gift cards?

    • Nope.

  • how quickly will these be credited to your qff account? as fast as qf wine?

    • Quicker. Should take minutes

    • Usually overnight, at most 48 hours

  • Noob question here: when I choose to convert Everyday Rewards points to Qantas points, do all the existing EDR points convert to Qantas points or just for the future earning

    • +2

All of your existing points as well as future points you earn while that setting is enabled. There's no way to partially transfer points either.
