For those paying in USD this is how you get the correct exchange rate in PayPal:

Setting overseas websites to AUD or letting PayPal do the currency conversion results in an inflated rate. To get the correct rate you need a card without international fees and do the following:

  • Set the website currency to USD
  • Checkout with PayPal
  • Select your card with no international fees
  • Click "See currency options"
  • Select USD to bill the card in USD instead of AUD
  • Proceed with checkout

Now you'll get the correct MasterCard or VISA exchange rate.

  • Do you think they'll bring the cashback feature back (10% for Team Ozbargain)? Or was that a limited time thing?

    • +2

It'll return later in the year. No plans this month.

      • +11

        Clear is clearly Jack Ma.

          Better than Jack Mihoff.

God bless AliExpress and their neverending procession of sales

    • Gotta be competitive and claw back business from all the customers weirdly obsessed with Temu

      • Hey Ali express doesn’t do 50% Cashback. Not that I use temu but still

  • +1

Yes, my partner almost left me after last sale and cashbacks (said i had an addiction) , i dont think there was a day last month I didn’t get a delivery from Ali

    • +7

If my wife wasn't an OzBargainer I think I'd be in the same trouble.

      • You are a lucky one lol

      • +4

        Is she jv?

    • What kinds of things are you buying from aliexpress so often that you're getting a delivery every day of the month?

    • +2

Challenge accepted. Find these on Amazon for the same or less.

      • I'm having a hard time determining what's a good welcome deal. For example, that Xiaoxin is $285 on special while the welcome deal I see is:

        AU$297.86
        New shoppers save AU$164.92
        AU$462.78

I can't trust those (inflated?) base prices.

      • +4

        PLS BRING THE 7700 BACK!

        • I second this but also for the 7800x3d now that I can actually afford it

      • Amazon needs a subscription for free postage, Ali is just $15 aud to get free postage

    • +3

Are you serious. I havent spent a cent on amazon in the last 3 months. Averaging a package every second day from Ali. Much cheaper than amazon and factoring in the coins and even cheaper if you can manipulate the algorithm to give you a big coin discount.

      • How you can manipulate the algorithm to give you a big coin discount?

        • Well if i posted how, they would patch it.

But been able to get some decent items at 85% off with coins

Also you can trick the algorithm so the AE store AI gives you a discount code, but takes about 24hrs

          • @easternculture: When most people can't figure out currency conversions when the instructions are right there in the post I feel these exploits are going to be too complex.

            • +2

@Clear: So true. Ive also figured a way so each purchase gets me at least $1USD to spend on next one, even better with the 10% cashback team.

I feel sometimes that AE want to hand me the items i buy for free 🤣🤣, just pay GST.

My highest value items i only paid GST for are 4 x orico 512gb magnetic ssds, 512gb msata and 512gb nvme

The other 2 are on my other account

              • @easternculture: :)
Impressive. Thanks for dropping a few clues. I think I have the gist of your method, or perhaps A method for cascading discount arbitrage.

              • @easternculture: Damn that’s kinda insane. My coins never even apply I feel like so idk how u doin that.

              • @easternculture: Just curious if you've run any tests on these cards and if they've come back with legitimate (and usable) storage space?

One thing I won't buy from these sites are storage items. Too easy to get scammed with them.

              • @easternculture: I recently found about the livestreams and tuned in to the popmart ones this past week but they either gave coupons that didnt seem to be claimable in au or the shopping credits i saw for the first time yesterday's stream gave the error message "strategycheckrulesfail, rulestype=shipto" which also seems to mean wrong region.

Is that just how it is for those eu focused? popmart ones and when was the last time you got credits from live stream? Thanks

  • Will this work on bundle deals?

    • +1

Previous ones did not work on bundles

    • +1

      can't use coupons on bundles

    • +2

Have Aliexpress fixed their bug with bundle deals charging more GST? I stopped using bundle deals because they were charging like 15% GST instead of 10%.

      • +1

"Bug"? Hahaha. My sweet summer child

  • Disappointed, cannot be used for mobile phone. Looking for a Xiaomi Redmi 14 note pro plus (black) with 12 gb rom. Price seems too high compared to August deal! Any suggestion?

    • +1

It's not always the case. Most recently the codes worked on a few but if I don't mention it I'll have the repeat offenders have a meltdown at me.

The next big AliExpress sale is kicking off on the 19th from Monday

Do you mean 15th? (The one that AliExpress is calling their 'Spring Sale'?)

    • +1

Yes my bad. Fortunately the deal start time says the 15th.

  • Do these normally work with top cashback?

    • Yep if item is affiliated.

  • 9% with Shopback and 10% TopCashback
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/923579
USD$598 in cart. Time to divvy up!

  • out of interest, what are the go too things to buy here that you wouldnt on amazon where the quality is what you pay for but its not really relevent, like golf tees?? any other examples?

    • Stationary, bike bits and pieces, exercise props,

  • What are people actually buying from these stores? Everything looks like cheap one time use rubbish.

    • +1

AliExpress is good for Chinese branded electronics. For example the Lenovo Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2025 last sold for ~$285, while JB sell it for $699 currently. Though to be fair the JB version has a matte screen, Lenovo pen and local warranty, but still a massive $400+ price difference.

  • Should I wait for 11.11 sale for Lenovo Y700 Gen4 or this is a pretty good deal with the promo code?

  • Service is unavailable, please retry again later.

  • -1

Why do people pay in USD? I compared the currencies on a $155AUD item and they worked out to be roughly the same? (give or take a couple dollars).

    • +3

I just did a quick rough test with the Moondrop Space Travel earphones at checkout

      AliExpress in USD: US$27.53
      AliExpress in AUD: AU$43.07

Using the Current exchange rate US$27.53 is infact AU$41.54.

Now at PayPal checkout my card based on PayPal's rates is AU$43.27 and since the card I've selected is NOT currency conversion fee free it's going to charge me a further 3% as a second charge after the transaction.

      In summary:

AliExpress USD > Mastercard rate: US$27.53 should equal AU$41.54
AliExpress AUD direct checkout: AU$43.07 > that’s + 3.68% over the true rate
      PayPal conversion: AU$43.27 > that’s + 4.16%
      PayPal + 3% card fee: AU$44.57 > that’s + 7.29%

Obviously the more we spend the bigger difference that makes.

      • Appreciate the explanation, thanks Clear! On the surface it didn't look like much at all, but when comparing real rates and fees I see the difference.

      • Moondrop Space Travel earphones US$27.53

Side note, is this currently a good price and would you rec these earphones?

  • ALLDOCUBE iPlay70 Pro for US$96.02 (~A$144.83) with coupons 2ZGA3D2HLP8X and AUSS23

    • Android 14

I can't post as a deal since Alldocube Official Store have 93.3% feedback :(

  • Does this coupon not work on a CPU? (either a 7700 or a 7800X3D)
