Is CVC still an issue? the last time i checked my POI's CVC graphs they were hitting capacity each night but the graphs now (not sure if its a glitch) look to be sitting at 0-1% usage

    • +10

nbn removed the artificial CVC limit for 100/20 and above.

The bandwidth pipes are open so to speak and Superloop have upgraded their network.

It's all making it so pointless having 1000/100

    • +3

It depends on your requirements. 500/50 with 1000/100 speed boosts will be my pick.

      • +1

        Yep, that's what I'm thinking

    • +3

tbh, this should be the base speed anyway.

      • +21

Agree it should be but thanks to a stupid political decision some people are still connected to the internet using string.

    • +1

It all depends on how important upload speeds are for you.

  • +2

    No love for Opticomm. :-(

    • +1

      nbn only.

  • +4

This isn't new? They've always had speed boosts…

    • +5

      The speeds have been updated.

  • +2

Used once and knocks out my cheap 2.4GHz IoT devices. Not SLs fault but annoying nonetheless. YMMV.

    • Can you limit bandwidth for these devices through your router?

    • +5

Each time with speed change, the Internet connectivity gets interrupted.

      • +1

Wonder why then the devices don't just reconnect.

        • +2

Power cycle your router after you get the confirmation that the boost is active.
I don’t see any reason why a faster WAN connection would impact your wifi network connections other than if the router drops its bundle when the connection gets reset

      • +1

        Yeah i hate it

      • Yeah and that’s a pain in the butt. I have to reboot the Exetel router and the Deco mesh each time. On activation AND deactivation.
Reached my max of 30 days banked boosts. Scheduling a week or two at a time is not so bad, but one day at a time gets tiresome.
I think I’ll be happy enough with 500/50 that I won’t need boost anymore. 250/20 has been fine.

  • +1

1000 customers don't get any speeds boosts to 2000?

    • No you have to pay extra for 2000Mbps and get a new 2.5GbE nbn NTD.

      • NTD is free.

        • I'm gonna guess only for people who upgrade to the 2000 plans

        • 2000Mbps plans costs more.

nbn FTTP and HFC 1-port NTD is free.
nbn FTTP NTD 4-port can be $0, $110 or $300.

          • +1

@Twix: Do you know if the new HFC modem would perform better than the current one besides supporting 2gig?
I’m tempted to upgrade to 2gig for month just to get the new modem if it is any better for lower speeds.

            • +1

@Save 50 Cent: No difference apart from supporting 2000/100 HFC.

    • Nope - if you're on HFC you need a new NBN cable/DOCSIS modem to go above 1000

  • +3

Go look at the plans. Might as well just spend the extra for the speed boost 100% of the time. its ~$5

  • +1

The plan and the speed boost for 50/20 remain unchanged - disappointing.

    • Thanks, description updated. How much are you paying for 50/20? nbn technology?

    • Boosts are basically doubling your speed (exceptions apply). What did you expect?
Also nbn has been trying to push people away from 50/20 for a long time by increasing the price and lowering the prices of faster plans.
It will be worth the extra $10 a month or whatever to be on 500/50 i think. Unless you are the only user and don’t download/upload large files often.

  • So if we've already got boosts banked (the boost button is gone for me in the app), do we lose those when this resets?

    • +2

You shouldn't lose any speed boosts and they can be used tomorrow after 6pm.

      • +1

        Appreciate the reply, thanks!

  • These speedboats are nothing new and just a feature. Mine have snowballed to a max of 30 total days.

    • +1

Three of the speed boosts have been updated. Yeah the rollover is 30 days max.

      • +2

Ah true. No change for me but maybe for others. It is a cool perk. I keep on forgetting to use them. No speedboats either. 😅

  • +1

Dang, wish they had 2000/100 speed boosts

  • They still have the 100/40 plan? I was on that and got auto upgraded to 250/100. Now I am trying to call them up and change to 100/20 so I get 500/50.

    • You don't really change to 100/20… you just change your plan to 500/50 directly when the systems are available/everything is caught up.

Superloop's billing is all done pro rata so you can change your plan at any point in the month, receive a credit for the unused days of the remaining month and then you're billed for the new plan from that day forward.

  • No love for 250/100 ?

    • 250/100 doesn't get a speed boost.

      • +1

hmm might need to change to the new 500/50 then

      • the superloop updated residential nbn creator 250/100 plan says its speed boost eligible?? and the 500/50 not eligible lol

        • 500/50 speed boost was highlighted before. I think it's a glitch and should be fixed after 6pm.

  • ISP's cuckold us so hard these days

  • did they remove speed boost from the lower teirs? cant seem to access mine

  • +4

Speed boosts always take my service out for ~5mins and require a modem restart. Very annoying, so rarely use it

    • it seamlessly works for me everytime, no interruptions/restarting required

    • +3

It’s a hfc thing, same experience. Those on fttp find it interruption free I think.

      • +2

        ahh yeah I'm on fttp

      • Interesting! Good to know it’s not for everyone

  • Hi Twix,

Do I get upgraded on my 100/20?

    • Yes to 500/50 - should happen tonight

    • 500/50 if you have FTTP or HFC and should kick in sometime today.

  • Cmon, give us pooor folk on 1000/50 an upgrade. Show me why it’s worth the upgrade!

    • You get 1000/100 but no speed boost. nbn FTTP or HFC?

      • Nope. No speed boost at all. FTTP

        • 1000/100 should kick in sometime today. There is 2000/200 and 2000/500 for an extra cost

          • +1

@Twix: I do, but a speed boost to those speeds would
Be nice before committing to the coin. At least uploads have finally come up a bit!

            I’ve averaged 930/47.

I just checked, this morning 931/96. That alone will make quite a difference

  • +1

I wish ABB had this. I'm on 1000/100 with ABB but I would drop to 500/50 if they let me access 1000 once or twice a month.

    • Speed boost is the only thing keeping me with Exetel.

The move will cost me $1 more per month (lol) but I am secretly hoping my Exetel speeds and reliability turn to poo so I have a justification to move to Neptune.

The thing is Exetel haven't dropped the ball yet since I joined them.

(I should mention that I have cake restricting the upload to reduce bufferbloat)
