I think a lot of people are wary because of the recently exposed exploit for TCN cards.

    https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/australian-youtuber-hack…

Although the exploit is supposedly patched, no cards were recalled? So we have no idea how many of the cards out in the wild has already been hacked.

    • It would be almost impossible to tell which ones were hacked

    • +4

They can't have been "hacked" without being activated already. The way the hack works is that someone takes a photo of the visible number on the back of the gift card, and deploys a program that can test all combinations of the pin within minutes without being limited by a Captcha, but of course they can't test for a pin on an unactivated card. You can no longer test for pins without being limited by the website so you shouldn't have any trouble buying a gift card now.

Im not touching TCN for awhile ..

Picked up 2 TCN Pamper this morning at 11am and tried redeeming at 1230. Both cards blocked due to multiple attempts, reached out to support they said credit is secure just send us a photo of the back of card and we will unlock it for you and then convert to digital.

    • Ah thanks, so you tried using the physical card at 1230pm as EFTPOS and that didn't work?

      • I tried converting to digital as I don't plan to use them straight away but wanted to convert so they are secure in my wallet.

        • Oh right, did you register them before trying to convert to digital? For some reason it doesn't let you convert to digital until you do that (but not always).

          • @hamza23: Yup filled out the form and everything couldn't even register

            • @Oh Daddy: Got it, thank you.

              • @hamza23: Couldn't even check balance. Seems like they have upped the security and it blocked the cards

        • Had exactly same issue with 2 Cinema cards, bought in Woolies

    • +2

Just cautious when you send the info over. I managed to register my card with full value being confirmed. Unfortunately card could not be accepted at JB-HiFi and TCN customer service confirmed the value and card could be damaged, As advice, I send the information required for they to refund/exchange, Next morning the full amount was gone! Have to go through too much hassle to get the refund when we are not at fault!

  • Care needed.

Watch "Is This Australia’s Most Easily Hacked Gift Card?

    https://youtu.be/oBarXDL23hs?si=ccwTFu0ht2PiX30Y

  • Can registration of these cards prevent hack?

  • Has anyone tried the 3% Category Choice gift cards to purchase these giftcards?? Wouldnt that classify as using a gc to pay for another gc which doesnt work?

    • +2

Yes I did today. They are visa remember. Paid by credit card at self checkout.

      • thanks for the irl confirmation, legend!

You can use Category Choice Groceries gift cards to purchase the gift cards in this deal at Woolworths, as long as store staff do not stop you.

You cannot use Category Choice Groceries gift cards to purchase some other gift cards at Woolworths (e.g. Everyday WISH, Vanilla Mastercard, eBay), as Woolworths has set up their checkouts to automatically stop this.

This is covered in more detail in the Gift Cards FAQ wiki page.

  • use the "shop" or "active" to get more % off Nike, so at 40% off sale to 50% off (when buying lots of $100).

  • Haven't used these cards before. If I was after the new AirPods at $430 that are coming out Friday, I'm thinking the best deal is to buy a $430 Choice Groceries gift card at $417.10, use that to buy a $430 TCN Kids card for $43 of EDR points, swap that to JB card and then buy them instore. Total cost $374.10, am I missing anything?

  • No, TGG (goodguys ??)
