  • I signed up for Aus Unity health insurance policy. It looks like I need to wait for 30 days to be eligible for this rewards program

    • Yeah I signed up end August so have to wait till end Sept/early Oct to be eligible… just made it in!

Set a reminder to come back to this in 30 days…

In the meantime, use this deal for 3% off Pets to pay your premium as it's not included in this sale.

  • Can we use this to buy gift card at woolies Coles

    • +3

I have had no problems at Coles.

      For Woolies, quoting @WookieMonster:

Woolworths: you can use a Category Choice Groceries gift card to purchase most gift cards sold in-store at Woolworths and Woolworths Metro (e.g. Ultimate gift cards, Apple gift cards, Uber gift cards). However, if you attempt to use one to purchase some gift cards (e.g. Everyday WISH gift cards, eBay gift cards, Vanilla Mastercard gift cards, Westfield eftpos gift cards), you will trigger a Cancelled - Items Not Allowed error at the checkout.

I am assuming you are talking about the Category Choice Groceries gift card and purchasing gift cards in-store? If so:

      • Coles: that should work, unless Coles has changed something in their checkouts within the last day.

      • Woolworths: that should work for most (but not all) gift cards. The Gift Cards FAQ wiki has an entry that covers this in more detail.

Also, HCF Thank You has an almost identical deal to Australian Unity Wellplan Rewards and the Category Choice Groceries gift card sale on HCF Thank You is capped at $1000 per "calendar month"1, so I am not sure whether the same cap applies to this deal as well.

      1. Calendar month is in quotations, because that may be a typo on the part of the people running these gift card portals. In past deals on HCF Thank You, they started and ended during the same calendar month, which meant that this $1000 sales limit was for the entire deal. However, a few months ago, these sales shifted to start in one month and end the next month, so I am not sure whether it is still the sales limit for the entire deal (which would make more sense to me), or this genuinely is now actually the sales limit for each calendar month…

      • The same $1000 per "calendar month" cap applies with Aus Unity.

Interestingly, it looks like Category Choice Groceries gift cards purchased at the usual 4% discount during this sale aren't included in that cap (but likely have their own separate $1000 cap).

  • Side note — Is there a portal with regularly discounted groceries choice? Lost access to one that gave 3% ;(

    • +2

They're 3% off on Amazon until tomorrow. Zip had them at 3% cashback for a couple of months but that ended this week. Paylab briefly had them available for 2% cashback a few weeks ago but then suddenly pulled all Category Choice gift cards from sale.

  • What about aldi

    • +1

You can redeem Category Choice Groceries gift cards at ALDI, as ALDI should be classified as MCC 5411 (Grocery Stores, Supermarkets), which is permitted on those gift cards. You should be able to use them to pay for groceries, alcohol, gift cards (including the ones currently on sale), etc.

Keep in mind you will need to pay the 0.5% surcharge when using them at ALDI, because those gift cards only operate on the Visa network, and ALDI applies the surcharge to any payments processed through the Visa network.
