      • Oa so i made the right decision then

  • Discontinued online…was there for a moment, refreshed and it's gone. :(

  • +1

all gone. hesitated while looking through the roms……

    • +1

You should have bought it and then looked for roms mate, as long as it has Cyanogen Mod you will automatically get heaps of roms. Keep that in mind for the next deal.
      Good luck next time.

      • +1

but in the case of the razr V, there were no roms. And while roms are available, their quality might vary. E.g. CM10's tethering seems to have issues. I recently bought a HTC One V for 50 bucks, tried 4-5 roms and all have little issues here and there. So I hesitated………

  • hope this is a not price error.

  • +1

Call your local store - they are getting more in stock over the next couple of days!

  • +1

Wow, I literally bought this 5 minutes ago. Sorry peoples, looks like I may have got the last one. Fingers crossed.

A gift for my wife, hopefully facilitating a smooth transition from an iphone 3gs to android..

    • u succeeded already. I mean it's a goddamn iphone!

    • Whats with the neg, people here are weirdos sometimes

      • +1

Fixed and you are welcome, hopefully its not your valentine gift otherwise you need a few more negs lol/

  • Bugger, too slow!

  • whatta deal!

  • +1

I have the 3G one and the battery life is appalling - hate to think what the 4G is like :<

  • no, i waited for too long

  • I read this phone has "two 3G receivers" (or something along those lines) and get better speeds than say an iPhone 4 (7.2 versus 42.2 see http://www.mobilesmspk.net/compare/apple-iphone-4/htc-veloci…). Is that correct?

Also, if I plan to use it with Optus in Sydney, I can only use it on 2100MHZ. Can both 3G receivers benefit from 2100MHZ only or would I need to have a different carrier that serves both, 850 and 2100 to get full speed 3G? I am not interested in 4G at the moment.

    Thanks!

    Its back, and ordered one.

    • Was for a second but it's gone now.

    • i missed the second chance. is there any third chance?

      • Im not sure it was a second chance, i went as fast as i could and my paypal transaction was cancelled both times, Garratt, have you checked your paypal?

        • paid by card and went through (at least it looks like got through with a confirmation email)

  • +1

And its gone again… when i ordered paypal cancelled the order

  • it is?
It's gone for me - "This product has been discontinued online"

  • called the store. they say they dont have it and can not order it.
Need to wait another good deal.

  • I just got an email stating my item has been packed and ready for shipping tomorrow.
    Pretty good shipping rate too.

  • Your order has been packed and is awaiting collection. You will receive an email with shipping information this evening which will enable you to track your order.

    Just got this email :)

    • Likewise, winner. And im pretty sure i was one of the last to buy one succesfully.

      • I ordered quite early but I have not received a packed and awaiting collection email yet. Is there anyone else who has not received this email?

        • +1

Nothing here. I ordered just minutes after OP posted this deal. Thanks for posting OP.

        • Thanks for the reply. Still haven't received anything yet. Will post back if I do get something.

  • Hi guys - I rang around at about 5:00pm and found a fair amount of stock at the Showroom in Chullora, NSW (Sydney) and did a custom order. Unfortunately the store's already closed - couldn't get home fast enough… You might have some luck at other stores :)
    Receipt - http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/2523/picture16h.jpg

It's a great deal, I've been hunting for a relatively decent-spec phone at this price point for a long time and couldn't find anything like this.

      • +1

Unfortunately no, they were waiting on the shipment (they said it's meant to come in tomorrow but may take a few more days for them to update their stock) - hence the custom order, not an immediate purchase. Looked at the RAZR V as well, definitely a good deal as well :)

  • How much of a hit do you think I'd notice being with Optus and no 900Mhz 3G band on this phone? I don't consider myself rural (Lyndhurst which is outer Melbourne).

My wife managed to get one of these just before I was going to buy the Razr from JB. I've done the comparing and know the differences but is the lack of 900Mhz band a bit of a deal breaker for the Velocity if using on Optus? Thanks in advance.

Edit: Never mind I've decided it is a deal breaker. Would still be interested in opinions though.

    • In cities most optus towers are both, but 900 travels much better. So if you are a bit further from the tower 900 will work a lot better. If you are in the middle of the CBD you probably won't notice a difference.

  • +2

I have this phone for work, hate every minute of it, specs of it are good, using it everyday its the most annoying crap ever! My old Nexus S was much better.

    • what's wrong with it?

      • +1

haters be hatin'. Phone works fine!

  • +1

Need to put a custom rom on it! It looks like Cyanogen JellyBean nightlies are available but there are some issues with it including tethering which is a problem. But probably some other apps on playstore that do that.

ICS ROMS seem to be working well, including MIUI and PAC!
I was waiting for a Nexus 4 but decided to spend half the money and stick with a Cyanogen mod solution :)

  • +1

Ive tried Cyanogen, its more trouble than its worth frankly..

    • Depends on the phone I guess, if you can get a stable release with the stuff that you need working, its worth it imo.
Only in the last few weeks has been added as an official CM builds, so it should be receiving weekly updates and bugs ironed out, lets hope!

RE: Nexus 4, ive been checking stock since November, had the chance to buy it then but didn't as thought i'd get a TRS refund. Now i'm just totally put off by the whole debacle, and lack of SD is a big killer for me.

      Here's hoping in 5-6 months there's a nexus 4 killer with more than 16gb :)

        • Till Nexus 5, there won't be one at that price point.

        • +2

Sony Xperia Z - Not cheap but considering it doubles as an underwater camera its pretty damn good - http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-z…

Same CPU as Nexus 4 + LTE + Waterproof + microSD (up to 64GB) + Better camera + Thinner + Better screen (Full HD) + FM Radio + Wi-Di + Bigger battery + $300 more than Nexus 4

        • Xperia go also waterproof but specs not as good.

I was about to buy that when this bargain beaut came along.

  • I got the phone on the 2nd chance and got email this morning at 7am.. thanks op.
Your order has been packed and is awaiting collection. You will receive an email with shipping information this evening which will enable you to track your order.

received my order today (I'm in Melb CBD).. Nice phone and it has Telsra logo on box but it's not locked.

EDIT.. mine has 4.0.3 out of the box..

  • Called Hornsby store yesterday, and put down 1 for raincheck to collect late today… they still have 2 more, so be quick guys!!

  • +1

For Anyone wondering delivery is supposed to come on monday in SYD CBD

  • +1

Hey, I got one from dick smith at Capalaba Central QLD, had to peek through the cabinet to the bottom on the RHS to see it the salesman was not very accommodating, also was trying to sell me $10 screen protectors and $25 insurance plans. etc. but there was 3 more there.

Having trouble get my live connected to get data on it maybe apn issue? having dramas anyone running optus sim got any ideas?

  • Nah i sorted it, used the optus APN but the type must be set to default.

So far so good, going to need some mod firmware though, im already hating on the HTC crap UI. Pull the ring up lol… but I guess ill get used to it. My wife has the RAZR V and i'll admit I think thats a better phone. but it $50 more I guess. And we wanted to have different phones so we didn't pick each others up by mistake.

The box is branded telstra but the phone is definetely unlocked. So theres atip for you guys there was one velocity in the computer when he searched and it reported unlocked so if you see one with the telstra branding.. you can get it… its unlocked.

    Observations so far….

    HTC pros
    Nicer screen
    Brighter screen
    bigger screen
    More memory

    RAZR V pros
Seems to get better signal for optus so far
    nicer to hold
    more compact
    easier setup
    far less bloatware

    • how did you work out the internet problem?

  • just checked with Eastland / Glen Waverley / Springvale, they received new stock this morning. Be quick.

  • +2

Yep i fixed it by using optus APN settings (im with liveconnected)
    •Name: Optus Yes Internet
    •APN: yesinternet
    •Username: leave as blank
    •Password: leave as blank
    •MCC: 505
    •MNC: 02
    •Auth Type: PAP
    •APN Type: default

Im starting to like the phone alot the more I use it. 3G reception is actually quite good now i've been using it a while - its better than my old omnia 7 for 3g coverage. Im starting to like it more than my wifes RAZR V now…

Seems some stores might still ahve some stock so the deal shouldn't be listed as expired.

    • Thanks Sillyhead!

    • Thanks mate, Optus 3G works now. :)

  • Bought one at Top Ryde, NSW. The store still have one left.

    • +7

it was $74 not long ago at JB. You are pushing your luck here.

        • +7

Your first comment here is to sell your over price phone. Take your attitude somewhere else.

    • +4

There's a Selling or Swapping forum for a reason.

  • Wow this phone gets dangerously hot when it was it gets used while charging…

Also it shut down when I was playing words with friends.. I doubt that is any good..

Anyone else have these issues? Should it be a problem I should report to ds?

  • +1

Great phone. Bought it on Friday, played with it all weekend. Feels heavy but very solid. App Juice Defender makes the battery go OK even yes, it it not the greatest. Very nice screen, metal back, simply an awesome phone. I am retiring my iPhone 4 for this. Sydney CBD store had 4 left Friday night. I am on Optus and this phone is much faster than my iPhone 4 in the city centre. I know, different phones… Happy shopping.

  • I got one this afternoon at Doncaster East (The Pines). There are still stocks using the check local stores feature online so this deal is not dead yet.

  • i bought the last one from St Ives' Dick Smith today! =) what a deal!
the manager also gave me an extra year of replacement warranty for me for only $5!!!

    • That's good if anything wrong within warranty they may give you back $199 voucher.

  • Some DS stores still have stock even it's not shown online. Phone is unlocked and very happy. Made in Taiwan !

  • holy crud, a 4G phone with only a 1620mah battery? That thing will go flat in about 8 seconds. Still a cracking deal though.

  • People looking at rooting their phones, there is a thread on Whirlpool that explains the step by step procedure, and also has got AU specific ROM.

Haven't tried it myself - would give it a try over the weekend.

  • Saw 3 at Neutral Bay store today when I was there.

  • +2

saw this on a youtube page which may solve the battery problem "For everyone having battery life problems, there is an after market solution. Go on ebay, the Velocity uses the same battery as the HTC Raider. I upgraded to a 2000Amh battery and it increased battery life by 20-30%. They are cheap too." i.e. this one
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3500MAH-EXTREME-HIGH-CAPACITY-BAT…
Which may increase battery life by another 100%!

  • I bought these a piggy back batteries a few times before, not the capacity stated, its Chinese 3500mah, maybe 1800mah really, then again its $3 so not a bad spare hey ! Bought one anyway, im such a cheap Charlie

  • If you search for the HTC Velocity at the DSE website and check the in-store stocks then you can still find this phone. I picked one up at the St Ives DSE for $199 on Saturday. Good points: the phone is great, screen is really big and bright, upgrades to Android 4.1 right easily, is unlocked and works on Optus. Bad points: battery is not best and runs out at end of the business day; feels thicker than an iPhone 3GS even though is thinner just because is big screen phone; little heavy. Overall is a bargain for $199 and I really like it.

    • Upgrades to Android 4.1? I didn't know Jelly Bean was out for it, haven't heard anything about that?
      Can you confirm?

    • I am using Woolworths mobile which uses Optus network as well. I can make calls and receive calls but the internet is not working at all.
I have seted up the APN for optus but still not working
      http://ausdroid.net/apns/#optus

      Anyone experiences same problem?

  • paid 10% deposit to get the phone back ordered.
hope that the phone is coming really soon

  • Thanks OP. Ordered one.

For $200 you can't go wrong.

  • +1

For those who are unfortunate to have their local DSE store running out of stock, you might check with your local Kmart for the same deal, see my posting here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93197, reported stock in the other store as well.

  • Purchased one on the 6th at Port Macquarie DSE Store. Amazing phone for the phone and will enable me to move to Kogan Mobile.

  • +2

I reserved a couple from one of the DSE stores yesterday morning (after confirming they had 3 in stock) and got a call late arvo advising that they made a mistake and that there is only 1 left for me.

Anyway, the lady then told me that I can place an order by paying a 10% deposit as they have 1600 units arriving at head office on 11/2 (Mon) which will then be distributed amongst the stores (Eta Friday).

So, for those who missed out, do not despair as there will be more/ another chance to get it.

    Good luck! :)

Btw, I went to collect the one unit reserved for me and have been toying with it. So far, so good! :)

    • This proves that Telstra has heaps of unsold stocks because the phones are not attractive enough to be sold at premium prices.

  • Got one at my local DSE. They also gave me a further $10 discount. No more stock there now though.

  • Has anyone rooted it for 4.1. Which custom ROM you are using ? link please.

  • Looks like they're back in stock online.

  • Online stock run out

  • available instore @eastgardens sydney

  • Battery Life not very good but very cheap deal in $199. Just bought the last one in my local store. It is coming with 2 years warranty.

  • Great bargain, thanks OP

    • Some stores have it back in stock.

  • does anyone know if you root the phone with a new OS can you get the optus 900mhz 3g band? i cant stop getting annoying sms message every couple of minutes asking me to save the location. I think it keeps switching between towers and the signal drops out using a optus sim.

    • you cant get the 900mhz band even if you root it. Its a hardware thing, it's not related to the software

  • has anyone tried to buy it from a telstra store or their 1800 no.? i wonder if there is any stock left and how much telstra are selling the prepaid htc velocity 4g for?

  • So whats the verdict on battery life, how many hours standby if your not using it?.

    • +2

Only had mine for just over 24 hours. So far the battery is reasonably bad. From full charge at about 6pm yesterday i updated it, played with it, downloaded apps, played a game on it before bed. It was a bit under half charge in the morning at 7:30am by the time i got to work. I think on standby the phone is fine, the battery drains reasonably fast on use though. At 4pm this afternoon the phone was almost fully charged and i received a phone call that lasted around 20 mins. Ive been downloading more apps this afternoon and doing some general mucking around with it and its at 7 bars out of 10 bars.

I really like the phone, its got a great screen, camera seems good, very fast to use, ive had pretty shit phones most of my life though. Im with virgin (optus network) and signal doesnt seem to be too good, but its always connected at least. Im going to give the kogan network a go (telstra) soon.

      • go kogan but make sure you turn LTE off in settings (GSM/WCDMA preferred if on ICS)

You shouldnt be using optus on this phone… vodafone is rubbish and i average 800Kb/s on kogan where i only get ~120Kb/s with voda. .though im not sure they even have an 850 tower in the area
