  • Expandable up to 32GB or 48GB?

    • Fixed thanks :)

    • they usually say what it's expandable BY, not expandable TO.
It looks weird saying 48GB when you mean the 16gb internal with a 32GB Micro SD card.
The information is only needed so you know what micro SD cards it works with.

      • Some Note 2's are listed in dodgy way on eBay, ie, as if 32GB (where they come with only 16GB + a 16GB micro SD card!)

        Keep eyes open… :-/

  • farrrk. better then the RAZR V deal?

    hmm nevermind found my answer:

    http://www.morecellphone.com/compare/phones/htc-velocity-4g-…

    • +3

Yes, it's an HTC therefore unlocked bootloader, therefore custome ROMS, therefore none of the software problems with the RAZR V.
Plus, now that I've read your link, better hardware all round and 4G to boot!

Only negative is Telstra Only for rural 3G coverage, which excludes it as an option for me.

      • +3

DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT
        darnit
        okay all better now

        • +1

          DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT!!!!!!!

          still not all better now!!!

anyone want to buy a still unused Razr V with free case and screen protector (due to arrive in the next couple of days)

still tempted to get this awesome deal!

    • Dammmm. I bought the Razr last weekend.

  • Good deal mate +1

  • Yeah great bang for buck!

  • awesome..this was $450 just 9 months back.

  • +4

great deal, just beware that on 4G this phone has appalling battery life, and it has no 900mhz 3G band for optus rural 3G.

    • -6

      2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900

      3G Network HSDPA 850 / 2100
      HSDPA 900 / 2100

      4G Network LTE 1800
      LTE 2600

So it does have 900MHz 3G.

      • +1

Dick Smith page says Its 3G Network HSDPA 850 / 2100

        • Thanks for that, I see that now, was looking at gsmarena.

So many phones these days support both bands.

        • True, but for most people single band should be fine. (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1569638)

        • +5

That thread is over two years old…since then Optus has significantly expanded its 900mhz 3G range and added urban 900mhz 3G infill. You are really missing out if you have a smartphone on Optus and don't have access to the 900mhz 3G band.

        • +1

Don't blindly look at GSM arena; phones support different bands in different parts of the world. GSM Arena is why Vodafone would not initially believe me when I said the stupid phone they gave me was not compatible with their new network (GSM Arena said it was).

        • How did you figure it out? Does the phone tell you somehow which band it is connected to?

      • +1

C&P from GSMarena? That means there's two models, according to DSE they are stocking the 850/2100 so no 900 3g

    • Virgin uses the Optus network and supports the 2100 mhz band. When it says dual band 3G (900/2100) does that mean your phone needs both bands available?

So would this work fine on the Optus network and just struggle in rural areas?

      • It would work fine on 2G. On 3G it would only work in the cities, and even then not nearly as well as phones that do UMTS 900. I don't recommend getting this phone if you are not with telstra.

  • Free delivery?
    "Small Item Delivery $4.95"

    • Yeah you're right was free at the time of posting, will update.

  • That's a really good phone for the price.

  • I would get it right away but nexus 4 is holding me back… far out!

    • I too was waiting for the Nexus 4, but when the SGS3 4G dropped down to around $500 just over a month ago I jumped on it and couldn't be happier with it! A huge improvement over the iPhone 3GS I was stuck with.
My advice: give up antagonizing over the Nexus 4 and whether it will ever actually be released again, go buy something else, be happy now :)

  • Upgradeable to Android 4.0?

  • Cheers….bought one!

  • sounds good mate. my current phone is Galaxy s2. is velocity far better?

    • +1

I prefer the S2 but then again I also prefer the S2 over the S3 if both had the same chip. :p

    • +1

      Not really.
      Roughly equivalent apart from 4G

  • Galaxy S II or Velocity 4G?

    • The Velocity wins on most counts, but only just.
4G is the only thing that really stands out to split them.

      • +3

        And price… can't forget the price ;-)
The S2 is still atrociously expensive.

        • HTC build quality is also little better than Samsung IMHO

        • but s2 is quad band. 850/2100 kinda kills the deal for me :/

        • +2

I prefer Samsung, but whatever floats your boat.

        • +1

Next door neigbour's daughter has one. Just had a play with it. Not bad. Quite bulky and heavy though …and said she needs to charge it "ALL THE TIME!". She's a teen .. so that probably translates to twice a day for an adult.

        • +5

actually, teens probably spend more time on phones for gaming (which consumes more battery power) than adults.

  • Anyone think this is a pricing error?

    • I hope not :(

    • By saying that you've condemned us all to possibly become professionals.

  • +1

damn i was all set to buy the xperia go or the motrolla from JB but cant fault this!

    bought one

  • Got one. CHeers

  • Damn good price for the spec
    Don't need one - must resist…

  • +7

    Ordered one & I don't know why.

    • +2

omg me too.. what just happened?? I have no feel for money now..

    • ilostmoney :p

  • +1

So tempted to buy one to replace my Gnexus.

    • i will take your gnexus :)

    • +4

Changing from Galaxy Nexus to this one would hardly be an upgrade.

      • Its not but 4G speed is worth it.
Anyway, from reviews it seems battery life is terrible.

  • +3

I used to have one and sold it. Really horrible battery life.
No wonder HTC has so many unsold stock.

    • Were you running custom rom ?

      • +1

NO, stock Telstra ROM. I would spend more and get the Nexus phone instead.

        • Nexus is good but Optus 3G is terrible :(

        • i have Gnexus also. i want a 4g upgrade, but google hasnt released yet. this is an older release than Gnexus, it was one of the first 4g phones that telstra releeased. im running 4.2.1 on gnexus, anything less would be going backwards!

        • +3

the one who says Optus is terrible, never tried Vodafone)))

        • It always depends on where you live in Cairns Optus seems to have the best reception followed closely by Telstra with Vodaphone as a far distant relative that only has 1 eye left and no teeth.

    • +1

Yeh I sold mine on gumtree as well, sold if for 270 a couple of weeks ago. Battery life is terrible with the telstra 4g dropping in and out.

    • ive had my HTC Desire HD for 12 months and its just habit to put in on charge at night and after lunch. not ideal but workable. was thinking this would be the same.

      • Yeh I guess its doable even better if you have car charger, with any heavy app use/browsing the back heats up a lot. Almost like burning your thigh or hand. Its a good price though.

  • Must be the current bang for buck winner. I wonder if the poor battery life could be fixed with a custom ROM?

  • -1

anyone know how much it is to unlock?

    • Its unlcoked

      • sorry, my mistake. i automatically thought it was locked to telstra because i thought it was exclusive them.

    • It already is?

  • That MHL TV link looks cool and was the reason I got swayed.

Those with an HTC with MHL, what cable do you use?

Here someone showing what its like with HTC secnsation:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-o_VCYd9NA

    • I didnt know that this existed. Cool.

  • not bad!

  • The cheapest 4G phone on prepaid is the Telstra Frontier 4G and this HTC kicks the heck out of it on specs.
    Look here; http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/

  • +1
    Android 2.3 !

  • Does it work with Ingress?

    • I would think so. Although Ingress has been a huge battery drain for me. 4G + Ingress = recharging all the time!

    • Is that related to the Niantic project? I was interested in that for a while, but completely forgot about it.

  • Wow, great deal! If I didn't get the Razr V, I would have seriously thought about it.

A bit thicker, and heavier, and smaller battery though. Still an excellent deal! Bang for buck!

  • Will a 64GB card work on it, as GSMarea says upto 32gb?

  • Its a quick phone… colleague at work as it stock rom…….Battery life is terrible…not sure if rom will help?
    Weighs a ton!
    No Jelly bean 4.1 yet

  • -1

Can anyone confirm for sure whether this phone supports 900mhz 3g? Need good Optus coverage in rural areas.

  • dammit, i bought the telstra frontier 4g for $299 day it came out, this is 100 times better!! shoulda waited 2 months!

  • +2

HTC Velocity is a 4G Smartphone with a quick 1.5 GHz dual core processor for easy multi-tasking.

I think Sense's memory allocation would beg to differ.

  • Any comments about the build quality? I've read couple comments about trips back to the shop for repairs after 7-8 weeks.

  • I took the dive … Upgraded from S2 cause I hate the samsung UI and Kies and 4g tethering is a huge bonus

  • SO tempted

  • +5

    Found this gem from whingepool.
So a few setting may fix it

"I was only getting 8 hours out of the phone on ICS. With these changes I am getting 28 hours. These are aggressive. But would be interested if you started here to see what can be achieved and then tweak a few things from this base.

    1. Settings/display/brightness/
Set brightness slider to just one up from the lowest.
      Sleep 1 min

    2. Settings/Blue tooth off

    3. Settings/Calls/Use Internet Calling/
      Only for internet calls

    4. Settings/Apps/
Press running. Check for no surprises.
      Possible list:
      Settings/battery Saver/htc locations/Telstra One/Google Services/Maps/Mail/Touch Input etc.
You can hit the menu and turn cached processes on to see recent info.

    5. Settings/Account&sync

    "Weather"
    Update when opened-tick
    Update schedule: every 3 hours
    Sync weather: tick

    "Google"
    Just Sync Contacts

    3. Settings/Privacy
Back up my settings – ticked
Backup account – your gmail account

    4. Settings/Development
      Nothing ticked
      Every thing 1x
      Background limit – Standard limit

    5. Settings/About Phone
      Scheduled Software – ticked

    6. Download "Easy Battery Saver" from the market
      Press Optimise
      Set to intelligent

As above for me this increased the battery life from less than 8 hours to about 28 hours . Sometimes with these settings the radio takes a moment to wake up. Anyway hope this helps and you can tweak the things you need from here."

    ozbargained
This product has been discontinued online

  • Gone!

  • So Motorola razr xt885 or this htc, which one better?

    • +2

The HTC has 4G connectivity and larger internal storage, but apparently shorter battery life (IIRC, the exterior is very plasticky, as well). The Razr V supports more 3G bands, has a slightly better pixel density, and (IMO) a better skin and build quality (they feel very solid, and the chrome highlights are quite nice)
