I was just about to say that we can use library subscription to PressDisplay to view The Age, but when I tried it, I was told The Age is blocked in Australia. An Australian newspaper geo-blocking Australia. These companies are absolutely ridiculous, why can't I read the paper through the library? I was actually going to buy the $45 real paper, but now that I know what type of a business they are, no way am I going to give them money. I do not support this type of geo-restriction.

    • why can't I read the paper through the library?

you can - there's a library digital edition

      • Where is that then?

        • I'm in QLD..

        • and so…?

          i'm in vic :)

        • I checked that link out, it has press display ( I use to have that a while ago, $30 a month unlimited newspaper downloads) anyway I got rid of it a whole ago seeing as I'm a poor uni student, however I'm curious to know if I sign up to the library, can I read the herald sun, age etc for free? :D and I'm assuming the papers are up on press display the day they're published?

        • yes :)

        • So The Age is restricted to Victoria+Outside Australia. Still pretty poor form to be geo-blocking QLD and possibly other states.

        • When I use to have press display, the age was blocked if u was in Victoria ( which Im in), I just used a VPN and it worked like a charm.

I do agree though it's poor form for the age to block viewers from Victoria from viewing it on press display

        • Amazing! I'll sign up today. I doubt I can do this, but if I sign up - there's no way I can view press display from my iPad if Using the library log in?

        • So The Age is restricted to Victoria+Outside Australia. Still pretty poor form to be geo-blocking QLD and possibly other states.

anyone can join slv to access it

you can use pressdisplay but for the age or smh it's via library digital editions as mentioned

        • Usually you either have to get the library card shipped to an address in state, or apply in-person (with ID). If I can join the library, it'll be great.

Still, that doesn't change the fact that The Age is geo-blocking Australia, and the only way to get it is to apply for membership for a library in another state. Why not just allow QLD Libraries access?

Also, recently several Finnish newspapers dissapeared from PressDisplay, so I suppose these companies are just pulling newspapers off the library, and asking people to buy subscription to their own paper instead (but then you need to pay heaps to get all the subscriptions).

EDIT: It says that use of resources is only allowed within Victoria, and you can either register online and get the card shipped, or in person, with ID. So only Victorian's can apply (thats normal and OK for libraries). The registration page is also down.

        • Why not just allow QLD Libraries access?

why not just ask them? sa allows access for their residents:

          http://0-www.libraryedition.com.au.www.catalog.slsa.sa.gov.a…

EDIT: It says that use of resources is only allowed within Victoria

where? there's no mention of any such condition:

          http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/explore/research-tools/access-eres…
          http://ezproxy.slv.vic.gov.au/login?url=http://www.libraryed…
          http://www.slv.vic.gov.au/services/join-library

          So only Victorian's can apply

          so not true

        • I will ask, but it would be easier just to access via PressDisplay like I do for other papers.

Did you even read the pages you linked to, in the last link (registration):

search for articles in ejournals, newspapers and ebooks from home (if you live in Victoria)

          and:

If you provide proof of identity, contact details and a Victorian address, you can order books from storage for the same day or another day and search for articles in databases and other resources from home.

If you do not live in Victoria, or if you don't have or don't want to provide proof of identity, you will be able to use the catalogue to order items from storage for the same day or another day.

Anyone can get an account, people outside Victoria just won't be able to access databases and other resources. Actually, at the moment no-one can make an account, since the registrations page is offline.

        • Did you even read the pages you linked to, in the last link (registration):

          don't search for articles

          and:

register online not at the library

          registrations page is offline

  • Nice deal.

  • Cheers!

If you have an iPad. You can download The Age app (not the Newsstand one)
You can download it and read it on your iPad!

    • I think the app has been merged into Newsstand. I have it installed on my work iPad and it show up on Newsstand.

      • I just downloaded both

if u like politics, this one is yours!! gossip n entertainment, then choose other newspaper.

  • Given that this used to be $20 for print 7 days a week (delivered on weekends), AND the fact that the digital version has such terrible quality (photos look dreadful), I have trouble accepting this as a deal. Their claim of 'identical to the print edition' is ridiculous.

    • Yeah $30 per annum or $0.08 per edition compared $500+ per annum or $1.20 (current daily price?) plus more for weekend editions, is a total rip!

      • The Age weekday price is $2.00

  • I can't seem to find the $15 digital deal? Only $30?

    • click go to deal :)

  • Thanks for Posting
How do I get to orider the Print Edition for $45 ?

    • did you click go to deal?
