Accusound 150W Reference Double 5" Centre Speaker $89 (RRP $499)

82

Just was looking around for a centre speaker to complete my 5.1 system. Saw this on ebay. Apparently Accusound is a really good australian brand, ive known people stock and sell their gear.

Can anyone back that up? If so this would represent really good value for money. They said theyre clearing 2013 stock.

they sell them at harvey norman though…

  • I have an accusound subwoofer bought for $1000
    Supergood!! LOL

I dont no about the surrounds and main speaker though.

But this is deffinately not worth $500 for centre speaker!
They might put the rrp up for easy sale..

question is, is it worth $89?

My thoughts exactly. It has a 5 year warranty which is promising…
But then id give an empty box a 5 year warranty as well.

I picked up some 4" centres from this mob almost 10 years ago and they still sound very good. I'm not saying this price is a 'bargain' but you will get a good speaker for the price (put another way, you can get plenty of rubbish new at this price, or would need to go second hand to get better sound for same price). I don't think you will be disappointed.

ive heard that accusound used to be much better quality in the past. is that true? If so it might be rubbish now.. Ive been reading a lot of opinions of people saying that their current lineups arent as good as they once were

      • can't comment on that. i only have their old gear.

        • Accusound used to be a very good Australian speaker manufacturer. They made one particular floor stander that was competing around around the 4K mark of other overseas award winning speakers. But there was an issue with their main retailer or something like that (this was like 10+ years ago) and so they had a lot of excess stock of their top end speakers and in the end had to sell it off for around 1/3 of the price of what they were initially going to be selling at. This made a big dent in their company and ever since then they went to making "cheaper" lower end speakers and generally speaker packages. Still for their price they used to always get considered as being bang for the buck.

I dont hear as much from them anymore so am not sure if their standards are still as good as they were before.

Since the alternatives are like second hand Dali's and wharfdales, going to take a punt and give it a try. Will keep you guys updated. According to some comparisons and postings on youtube it doesnt seem bad. One guy compared their bookshelves from this range with Rokit mk5s

  • I had an accusound centre speaker when I was starting out building my sound system, definitely not rubbish. A good place to start. Personally, I would buy second hand though.

  • I have a full surround sound set up from these guys. They sound great and are an excellent price. Really good company to deal with also.

  • I currently have a Denon 3312 with this centre (http://www.todds.com.au/product_desc.php?pid=186)

Sometimes speech in movies is very quite, does anyone have an opinion if the speaker above will be better?

    • Have you properly setup your channel volumes?

      • Yeah I believe so both with the built in calibration and then bumped the channel up a bit more. Looking at the 2 speakers the one listed seems to have quite a bit more power put a lower frequency range

Clearing 2013 Stock? But we are in 2013. I can understand if they said clearing 2012 Stock, makes sense. It means its no stock clearance but simply a price they can sell it for. Its upto you to decide if you'd get a better deal elsewhere.

  • Have the 5.1 set up on pioneer amp, and I am happy. Is crisp and clear, with good bass. I would buy again. If you do buy, i think you will be pleasantly surprised.

  • I'm getting this because I'm tired of adjusting the volume in the movies because I can't hear the speech…and then action scenes just blam and is too loud

  • Have full 5.1 speaker system from them, bought over 2 years ago, has been excellent.
Sub was repaired under warranty after the driver was damaged from being driven too hard.
There was no "carton damage" whatsoever either.

You don't need to post everything that you buy here, not really all that great a deal, be better off getting a full system from them for $200 more.

    • Unfortunately not everyone 'needs' another full system. Some people start off with a 2.0, and decide to want a 3.0 system. Why would i want a full blown 5.1 in my bedroom?

Not really that great of a deal? just FYI someone on gumtree tried to sell me a 5 year old yamaha cs-55 for $80. Standard centre speakers start at around $250-300.

Got it today 2 days after it was purchased (not too bad). Has a good quality feel and finish, preliminary runs with the avengers/hulk/kenshin sound reasonably good. Its a good quality sound, good value for money product.
