how do these work? do i sign up with itunes, then put in the card's id number or something and it adds credit to the account?

  The gift cards can be given as a 'gift' to someone to redeem in the iTunes store on the product of their choice.
  
  To redeem the gift card, you need to set up an iTunes account, then click on redeem gift card option to redeem the value of the gift card onto your iTunes account. This allows you to purchase content until your account value runs out or you top it up with another gift card or use a credit card to pay for purchases.
