Best Protein Powder Deal?

I am running low and am needing to buy some more. Although I have seen that the Musashi High Protein have had some deals in the recent months, it's not one I am particularly keen on (currently down to my last few scoops of a 2kg container I purchased some weeks back). What protein powder are you guys partaking in?

If you are taking powder instead of whole foods, get your heavy metal levels tested because most powders are laden with heavy metals … and it's not the first time these metals were found, harvard has been warning since 2022

It's far cheaper and more bio-available to get it from whole foods (lean chicken / beef ~ $10/kg etc) …

      laden with heavy metals

So I just blend the chicken after gym? Will report back

Try eating it with rice, but shhh, body builders been doing that for decades - don't let their secret out …

But sure, if you want to create a strawman argument where you are just soooooo busy and can't maintain a proper post gym feeding routine, sure ;)

Keep the chicken alive as long as possible cause the higher body temperature makes it more bio-available

      • So I just blend the chicken after gym?

poached chicken smoothies are sadly an actual thing. I found out from watching this Japanese reality show https://www.youtube.com/shorts/dyBumbPYUdA

you dropped your tin foil hat.
If anything, the take home message is to not eat the vegan sh1t.

  • I last stocked up from BlackBelt Protein, flavour isn't great but it was the cheapest I could find at the time.
Someone in the comments of that deal also shared [this] WPC, which was cheaper at the time but looks like it is now more expensive.
My guess is it'll be difficult to get much cheaper than the low $30s per kg, but might be able to snag a deal doing a price beat at Chemist Warehouse or something!

Protein powders are a waste of digestive energy. I've been getting into post-workout amino acid slurries lately and the gains are unbelievable.

can you please expand on what you mean by this? how is amino acid better than protein powder

      • +1

I think what they mean is it doesn't come with the additional fillers/carbs/fats of a protein powder. So it's a lighter, more digestible way to take the same amino acids. Performance wise, the gains should be the same per gram of amino acid. Maybe their slurry contains more amino acids per serve, so they have effectively upped their amino acid intake. But still the body reaches a limit where consuming more protein/aminos does not translate to increased gains. Perhaps they were taking a poor quality protein shake before. Hard to know. But it would be interesting to hear how they believe it's led to increased gains.

Like any protein supplement, you need to know the amino acid profile to determine the bioavailability of the amino acids.

INC 100 is on sale again from Chemist Warehouse. $63 / 2kg with 75% protein content. It's popular in the past so maybe someone will post it as a deal again…

    • these aren't the droids you're looking for…

    • Thanks mate, I'm going to go ahead and buy one of these.

The food industry in general is now marketing and making everything as added or high protein

High protein ice cream, high protein fruit drinks, high protein sweets, high protein chips. It's in high demand now, so price has gone up substantially over the last couple of years.

"High protein" is just code for "we added milk powder or soy powder" though, right? So actually less healthy in some circumstances?

Kinda like how "low fat" actually means "we removed the cream and stacked it with sugar to compensate for the worse taste, please don't look into which version actually makes YOU fatter".

      • +2

Yeah 100%, really need to look at the label to get past all the marketing to confirm if it's actually higher in protein however it does still increase the overall demand of protein products

For your own safety and before consuming any more powder please take the time to read this through. You will save time on dialysis later on.

Basically, don't buy the vegan sh1t and you'll be fine.

      • Damn, I was just about to buy the plant-based one because the whey disagrees with my stomach.

      • thanks

Oof. More than the safe daily lead dose in a single serving, of more than half of the 23 brands tested.

  • I find https://sport-supplements.com.au/ to be pretty good in terms or protein content and price. Plus its all natural with no added emulsifiers and fillers usually costs around $34-$38kg depending on how much you order
