Algae…
Good. Different
@SAgov
Can this be used to kill household mould on walls, furniture, etc?
If for external use - wet and forget is your friend.
This has the same active ingredient. Mix half bottle into a 5L sprayer and spray mold and lichen. Sprayed it on my roof and few months later all of the lichen was gone.
Just checked the MSDS and this has Benzalkonium Chloride (BAC) – 40%
30 seconds spray and walk away is 10%So going to water this down and then spray on the tile roof when the weather is a bit better
@Brick50: Can you give me some tips for doing this also please? A video perhaps? Never done this before.
My red tiles are quite dark and I want to take care of them.
Yes, very good for killing all the lichen on roofs
Hmm, not for the fish pond then. Although come to think of it, that is external!
diluting this is much cheaper- been using this and similar for years outside on mould/algae
This stuff kills mould spores as well as mould. Its nasty stuff but more effective at getting rid of mould permanently.
Thanks. Just bought 200 to put in the SA ocean.
Albo announced $1 billion to d9 something like that a couple of months ago.
Hasn’t yet worked out what they will do and how much that would actually cost, but hey, the important bit is the announcement has been made.
Damn, why dont bunnings sell pre-emergents like spartan.

https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/391569?goo…*Check the strength of the active ingredient against spartan on the side.
Thanks, will take a look. The first one seems only for winter grass though.
I just ran a search for the active ingredient in Spartan, and they came up.
*Just noticed the Munns isn't the same, so not sure on that one now.
"Spartan Herbicide contains 480 g/L prodiamine"
Did the same looking for Dicamba. Found it at decent strenght at Bunnings inside Yates Bindi and weed killer for $12
@tunzafun001: I use Yates Bindi and weed killer for $12 all the time, kills every broad leaf weeds without issues.
They sell oxafert as a special order item but it's far cheaper per sqm to get Spartan or Barricade from a shop that specialises in turf care. Lawnhub will be doing a black friday sale if you can wait a bit
Cool, I think I will wait. I think nothing beats spartan in Australia.
What do you guys think about Glyphosate 700 Granular Herbicide instead of the woolies and bunnings options?
@Lord Ra: Its a non selective herbicide, not good for lawns. It kills everything. Other than that, I dunno how good it is.
Check the Dosage - 1L linked in the OP works out to be cost effective
Like Bargain-finder says. Check the concentration. The super algaecide has 2.5X (400 vs 150) active ingredient than the one you are referring to.
Sensational. Thanks!
How much is available in SA?
Also check out water clarifier https://www.bunnings.com.au/hy-clor-1l-water-clarifier-1l_p3…
Assume this and a few others are price matching bunnings as mentioned earlierI think you mean
price matching ALDI
Face palm emoji ;-); meant to say bunnings ARE price matching…
yep that works as well 🤣
Great price.
But you shouldn't need algecide if your pool is balanced. Chlorine is the cheapest and best disinfectant.
The pool industry have convinced us we need a whole bunch of extra chemicals and additives which simply isn't the case.Worked well for me over winter since the pool wasnt being swum in algaecide at this price was far cheaper than chlorine.
Thanks, picked on up!
Any other pool chemicals on sale? My thirsty money burner pool is getting dark green again. My chlorinator stopped working.
Head to TroubleFreePool.com and run the SLAM protocol. This happened to me a few weeks ago when my chlorinator blew up whilst we were on holiday. SLAM'd it and it went from Shrek's home swamp to crystal clear water in about 10 days with about 40L of liquid chlorine from Bunnings. My pool has never looked better and it requires very few chemical inputs at all.
One caveat is that you'll need to buy a decent water testing kit (Clear Choice Labs sells a Taylor-type kit in Australia) and use it, but to me it's worth the effort. I don't trust pool shop testing after some earlier experiences where I was told to buy a raft of chemicals that literally did nothing to improve my pool. I hardly put anything in to the pool these days and my chlorinator runs at 50% for 6 hours and maintains a steady 4-5ppm of FC.
How did you fix your chlorinator?
It just shows how unbelievable the mark up is at Bunnings when they have monopolised the market…..
I think this was one of the top comments in the equivalent post last year.
Also good as a maintenance spray on orchids and similar. Though you'll need to do the maths on application rates (google it, a few orchid societies have a flyer online).
I tried this in my pool last year to try and deal with a black spot algae problem. It didn't work at all, but it did make the pool bubbly. YMMV.
Pool chemicals are such a scam.
Hy-Clor has about 10 different names of products on Bunnings shelves with all the same ingredients. All ridiculously overpriced.
People lazy enough to use stuff like this instead of addressing the cause properly in the first place?
They also have stabiliser 2kg for $11.95 down from $25.90 and buffer (Alkalinity increaser) 2kg for $8.95 down from $16.30 (although you can just buy bi-card soda from the supermarket for a similar price). Now these are two chemicals that most pool owners will need.
Is this suitable to stop the slime growing in a small water feature bubbler?
Good stuff and great deal
Aldi effect :)
