    Your email says

    "Create your own deal today!"

    Can I get $50 off $100 then ?

    • +1

No, you can get two $50's

    • +12

That was not exactly what we had in mind ;)

  • need deal on Nexus 7?
other shops have had good prices but are charging too much for postage ($20)

    • Unfortunately that was direct from the google play store iirc? Tough to beat their pricing even including the shipping, which depending on how they are shipping seems fairly reasonable.

      • fair enough.

  • +6

Great - the prices on items over $100 have gone up as well!

Example: The Asus RT-AC66U router was $216, now it's $238.

    • +6

We have actually raised and lowered that price about 10 times in the last two weeks based on competitor activity. Case in point the banner on our front page which still has it listed at $248, it is the first one that comes up when you load the front page.

I am trying to think of any other products for which the price went up today and I honestly can't, in fact some of the prices from the previous sale, for example the USB Keys we have not even put back to their original prices.

I will be happy to take a look at any other examples and possibly lower them on a case by case basis.

  • yahoo! we have a code "Crazy$60" for $600 "Crazy$70 for $700 so on…

  • -7

Neg from me. I agree with antler, not much of a deal if you raise the price and then offer a deal which brings them down to exactly the same price. Come on Flingshot you can do better!

    • -7

      Don't start being another shoppingsquare/COTD!!!!

      Avoid these tricks

      -Just paid for shipping etc..

-And in your case of raising prices and giving a money voucher..

      • +4

        "-Just paid for shipping etc.."

Not sure I follow this comment, what was it in regards to?

Also just to make another point I just realized the price of the R6300 actually dropped $30 yesterday, so again this is definitely not some sort of conspiracy here. Networking is very competitive and we adjust pricing based on sell through on a daily basis with many of these items.

        • +1

"-Just paid for shipping etc.." is a ShoppingSquare trick.

        • +1

Maybe it is the one hour of sleep I got last night but I still don't follow this. What is the trick?

        • Shopping Square has ridiculous shipping prices on their sale items, making them only barely cheaper than usual.

I'm not sure what that has to do with Flingshot though.

        • +4

Right ok, so they lower the price and then raise the shipping price?

Not going to make a comment on that practice but obviously with free shipping site wide that is not something we would even be able to do. And I think I have covered the second part of the complaint to death by now ;)

      • "-Just paid for shipping etc.."

It would have been easier to understand if you wrote "Just pay shipping". Support your comment with some examples of jacked up prices because it means nothing without those examples.

      • @tyler.durden Appreciate you removing the neg. A lot of people would have kept it out of stubbornness so thanks!

        • I think he got negged out of his neg. Xzibit style.

        • alwiese same as well. Much appreciated!

    • +10

I can definitely understand where you are coming from here, I just think that you are assuming some kind of conspiracy in regards to the price changes around this particular product. You are negging the entire deal because one product happened to have fluctuated in price in the last few weeks. Also keeping in mind that the after coupon price is still $20 cheaper than anywhere else I can find right now shipped. Always happy to be proven wrong in that regard though.

Just for full disclosure, here are the price points this router has hit in the last 2 weeks.

      198
      208
      216
      218
      238
      248

For whatever reason this router has seen a lot of competition in the last month and we have had to move with that pricing. You can look at it two ways, you are getting the same (currently cheapest) price as someone who bought it yesterday or you can look at it that you are potentially saving $20 over what you will very likely have to pay come 12:01am Thursday.

Realistically there are no "sale" items for this particular deal. We just put some of our better selling products together so there would be something on the page. If we were secretly trying to raise the price of this router for the sale it wouldn't make very much sense to put it right on the page after all.

And I know I am kind of beating a dead horse here but we excluded Synology from this deal, if we were trying to pull some shenanigans with this router we could have easily excluded all Asus Routers and left the price at $218. But the reality is that we changed the price independently of this sale, in fact two different people were working on price checks this afternoon and I had to call one of them to even confirm the price had been changed.

      • -1

So you price your goods on depending on what the opposition sell them? I feel a far more honest marketing strategy would be to price goods with a certain % and hope a strong customer base would buy from you even if some of your goods are slightly more expensive.

        • +1

In a perfect world sure. But we are a very new business (we may be OZB famous but the average person has not heard of us yet) and much of our traffic comes from comparison shopping sites. We cannot afford to be more expensive than say an Mwave let alone a JB or Bing Lee.

        • +1

But you can afford to be more expensive than IT Estate?
          ;)

    • +3

"Neg from me. I agree with antler, not much of a deal if you raise the price and then offer a deal which brings them down to exactly the same price. Come on Flingshot you can do better!"

Provide examples, support your assertion. I think you are wrong (and neg-trigger happy).

  • -6

Thanks the rely & the background price info. If Asus RT-AC66U come down to $198 again I'll buy two.

    • +1

You never know, but we certainly won't be doing it ourselves unless we are forced to by a competitor. They lose money at that price especially shipped.

    • +2

Also just in case there was some confusion around this as well, this offer in not limited to the products on that page, they were just a group of products that were new/selling well.

  • Excludes synology…
    :( not negworthy, but disappointing.

    • +3

You have to ask why would we bother to exclude Synology? We wouldn't unless they lost money. We would have much preferred not to exclude them, but across the entire range at every price point every single Synology unit we sold would have lost money. So we really didn't have a choice. The flip side of this is that pricing on Synology is so competitive that a retailer can't even offer a $10/$20/$50 discount without going under cost. Which means that the every day pricing is extremely good.

      • Geez, the Synology stuff is exe, <10% markup is very low. Obviously it's Synology (or it's importer) is gouging.

        • +3

I love Synology but they really are the Apple of the NAS world…

        • In one of your other recent deals you commented that you were negotiating a new Synology/WD Red deal - any news on when we might see this available?

        • We have really been struggling to get this over the line. As mentioned above it isn't going to be much of a deal if we do $10 off a $1k NAS, and right now that is what we would be looking at…

We are going to keep chipping away though.

        • ad76sa: I wondered this too… but then i considered that i really DON'T want to buy all my hard drives at once. If you hit a bad batch, you're screwed.
So… I am interested on a good deal on a bare synology, which - as explained - won't happen.

        • Honestly the only way these pricing are dropping is if there is some sort of bundle. In fact I am being told the price is actually about to go up…

Again this is coming from Synology we don't really have any control over it.

        • If i order a DS1812+ tomorrow, when will i have it (Sydney Metro)?

        • Sorry just saw this, we could in theory get it to you same day. Otherwise you would have it Thursday morning.

        • Sorry, just picked one up for $985.

  • Hi, Do the coupons only work on the 11 products on the page or across the entire site (excluding Synology)?
Are you getting any more of the samsung 128gb SSDs soon by any chance? :)

    • Yes I just update the post to reflect this, as I think a few people have possibly made that assumption as well.

      • The Samsung 128GB Drives are gone as the A02 is now gone so no more upgrades.

        • So why do you still list the samsung 128GB drives for $88 (out of stock) if they are indeed gone?
This is a popular drive and the fact you continue to advertise it for a really good price weeks after its been "gone" (which i assume from your vague post means discontinued) makes me think its nothing but bait advertising.

Sorry if I sound harsh, but I hate searching for this drive and always ending up with flingshot listed as the best price when it hasnt been in stock for weeks.

        • +1

          Wow tough crowd today!

Sorry for being vague, I assumed someone who had asked about these drives had seen the previous deals. These drives came from upgraded machines, hence the cheap price.

When you say advertising, I assume you mean on a price comparison engine? Currently we do not have the ability to disable out of stock items from showing up in those feeds. However this is about to change as we just organized a new system which gives us a lot more control over what is listed from out product feeds.

We generally don't like to hide these items as if someone follows a link from somewhere which we cannot update they will just get a 404 which looks bad. We are, however, organizing a system which will list these items as discontinued.

Speaking of which the 830 series is actually discontinued so there would not be that many people looking for them I would imagine. Though I may be wrong.

        • +1

Take the tough crowd as a compliment; ie, we have come to expect great deals from you, so even a good deal will seem bad in comparison.

As for the 830 I believe it is still popular because the 840 pro is a lot more expensive (and apparently the 840 basic sucks)

Good to hear that you are getting the system fixed to list as discontinued (out of stock gives the impression it will come back in stock, which is not true in this case)

I may be sounding a bit negative, but dont worry, you are still on my list of good retailers. Will probably get a crucial M4 since the 830s arent coming back.

        • Thanks for the feedback, I was only joking (a little). But yeah we have been meaning to fix that system for a while but unfortunately time is the difficulty there… Not even kidding I pulled an all nighter last night and somehow my todo list was longer this morning than when I got here at 7am yesterday. We just have to make compromises on what can be done within a given time frame and that sort of things unfortunately sometimes gets put on the back burner.

  • Just bought a laptop for 898$ last week - think you could apply this coupon retrospectively and give a 50$ refund or even store credit??!!
    Would really, really love that!

    • +4

      Hi Ben,

Unfortunately not, the main reason is the laptop you purchased was at a clearance price. Even if we had run the sale with those machines in stock we would have had to exclude them from the sale due to already being under cost.

The other reason being that if we started applying discounts retroactively for every sale we would be severely limited in what we could actually offer in a sale as our normal prices are already very low margin.

    • +1

What I will do for you though since you took the time to ask is shoot me an email next time you are looking for something and I will try to sweeten the deal a little for you.

  • -4

The prices of lots of items went up by $20+ for these coupons. eg, N54L was $298 now $320+

Not sure if it is a deal.

    • +4

The price of the N54L went up after the sale finished last week.

  • what about a deal on NETGEAR R6300? like this one…

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/84417

    • That was a deal that was organized based on a bulk buy. That router has slowed down significantly in the last month so it would be hard to justify buying enough stock to get it back down to a similar price. You have to understand that with these deals there is a lot of timing involved. If you get it wrong you have a ton of stock which needs to be cleared at or under cost, so we need to try to find that sweet spot where demand is high and we have enough of a window to move the stock in. I feel like that window has passed on the R6300. That said eventually there will be a price drop as they are discontinued and you will probably see them fall well below the $200 mark, but only Netgear knows when that is likely to happen.

  • +3

nothing against flingshot but these 10 dollars spend 100 dollars 20 @ 200 etc type deals urk me… its like offering only 10% off but not even that as if you spend 150 its only 7.5% so basically its save between 5-10% without having to say it like that!

IE sounds better than it actually is! thanks for more deals though flingshot, just had to comment on this type of discounting…

    • +2

I agree, I call them wonderbra deal - they look good initial, then you start to wonder

    • +2

We honestly thought that it would be a good change up from just offering a few products at specific prices. We wanted to allow people to choose what they wanted and still get a deal. Every time we post a deal there are people who request different products to the ones we have chosen for example. For many of our items we are already the cheapest available, add in these coupons and we are even cheaper.

Based on the feedback so far though we will think twice before offering a deal like this again most likely.

      • +3

It IS a great offering flingshot, don't let the trolls and ignorant fools convince you otherwise, they are just a noisy minority.

        • just saying a flat 10% up 500 bux etc off would be better (and better value for us all obviously), its easier to comprehend, and at there decent prices nothing to be sneezed at…

again dont want to bag Flingshot as they are great at working with the community… one of the good reps here i rekon, always takes the knocks on the chin from trolls and makes fun etc.

        • +1

That is actually a good idea which we had not considered. Unfortunately our coupon system does not have the ability to cap a percentage discount. But that is something we will definitely look into for future deals.

I am actually really surprised though I would have expected that people would have been posting their combinations of products to get the best pricing possible. So far not so much.

        • I smell a compitition comming on! ;)

        • We have been banned from running comps unfortunately. I think it may be a misguided attempt to reduce overall pageviews on the site ;)

      • +1

I guess what wisc was saying is that instead offering such 'sounds better than actually is' discount, why not just offer a straight up discount code, say 10% off total code - 'crazy10off'.

        Anyways, any deals on SSD?

        • +2

The reason why we cannot do this and need to "cap" the discount at $50 is that margin does not scale in a linear fashion to price. In fact many of the higher priced items have much lower margins. If we offered a flat 10% off coupon I can think of at least three products off the top of my head which could potentially be a bloodbath for us. many of the guitars would lose money after shipping for example.

          http://flingshot.com.au/products/pioneer-ddj-sx-dj-serato-dj…

This is one of the ones which stopped us from offering a $100 off $1000 code. But that is just one example.

We had a 5% off music code a few weeks ago for example, and someone said (on facebook) shouldn't that be 50% off. My response to that was if we could do a 50% off sale at the drop of the hat and not lose money what does that say about our regular prices.

        • Thanks for your input … emmm SSD sale?

Edit: Just a suggestion, if you want to cap $50 discount you could offer flat 10% for purchases up to $500. Still better than these 3 coupon codes imo because if someone orders $150 they get $15 off rather than $10 off. Cheers.

        • Right! Well we could probably do something with a 250GB 840 series Samsung? $219 shipped (before coupon).

          How does that sound?

        • Can we get Samsung 830 128GB for ~ $90?

        • Emm… that's $195 in Umart.

        • everyone is 195 before shipping what is the shipping at umart?

        • -1

Would be $10 for shipping I guess, but most of us would be able to pick up. Any better deals?

        • We can probably come up with something for the new 120GB Kingstons?

Maybe give me a capacity and/or brand and I will shoot a few emails out and see what is out there?

        • What do you think of the reliability of Kingstone SSDs? Are they as reliable as Samsungs?

        • Not keen on Kingston personally
Either Sandisk Extreme or Samsung 830/840 for ~ $90 (after coupon) I guess Intel is not possible at this price

        • Those 830 series are gone unfortunately…

Reliabilitywise Kingston have been good so far. You don't really know until you hit that 6 month mark though.

      • +1

This offering is perfectly fine and I appreciate how it is a global sale of the site rather than only on a particular item. This allows us to choose whatever items we please to receive a discount on, great deal flingshot!

My only complaint would be that the values do not reach high enough in my opinion and you should have $700 purchase = 70$ off as well and so on.

  • Hi flingshot,

With the Samsung NP700Z5C-SB2AU (Bonus Upgrade to 16GB RAM) what brand/model SSD and RAM is included?

    Thanks in advance!

    • RAM right now is Team, SSD is 250GB Samsung 840 series.

  • Hi,

Good deal as usual guys. I ordered the Line 6 Pod HD500 for $548 a week and a half ago that hasn't shipped yet. Don't suppose this could be coupon'd :P

    • It actually shipped from the US today. After that shipping charge I may just send you a reverse coupon!

I definitely underestimated the shipping charges there. I am usually pretty accurate but that box must be huge.

There is actually someone who wants to buy two of them and I told him I would not raise the price until he puts his purchase through after that they will have to go up to $598.

      • Oh it's on the way, awesome. If I need to pay more just shoot me an email mate.

        Cheers.

        • +1

No of course not I was only kidding. But seriously, that box must be huge.

If we are lucky it may be here by the end of the week even.

  • Flingshot - could you please increase the price of the BeyerDynamic DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm by $2?

    • +1

HAHA now that is the first price increase request!

You can combine items you know. Just add some strings or a USB key.

      • If I order them with those $4 guitar picks and specify a business address, will it be shipped via TNT?

        • Yep. But keep in mind the 80ohm are currently back ordered. More stock expected in a week or so.

  • Any idea when the HGST Touro 1Tb drives are coming back in stock?

    • Kogan actually cleared out our supplier, they have them for $84+ shipping right now I think…

So we are waiting for new pricing to come through.

We do have an option for the touro pro 7200rpm drives in 500GB would that be of interest?

  • I was browsing the music gear section of your site when I found this note:

All of our electric guitars are sourced directly from the USA, please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery.

Do you ship guitars directly to your customers? If so, for purchases over $1000, who pays GST & import charges? It isn't clear on your site.

    • We pay all applicable duties and shipping charges. You will also get GST invoice with the GST component of the sale.

The price you see on the site is exactly what you will pay.

  • Yay this was perfect timing - FITBIT ONE for $95 delivered

  • Hi Rep, will i get a $50X3, $20X1… If I buy the $1788 Macbook pro retina? Thanks.

  • ultrabook range is looking pretty thin…any plans to restock? im wondering if i should wait to see what u have on offer before i buy elsewhere?

    • +1

There is a model update happening at the moment, but the ultrabooks are strange as they often last for 6+ months so it is kind of in this weird in between period.

Was there something in particular you were looking for?

  • Just spotted the bargain on ozbargain.com.au about coupon craziness. Unfortunately I was too late and missed that. I am interested to a HP N54L and thinking to have 8GB RAM upgrade on that also. Is that possible to still doing same deal as that coupon offer for me please?

    • Just replied to your email.

  • Hi Flingshot,

I ordered 2 X 1TB hard drives but when the parcel reached me, there's only one hard drive. Package doesn't seems to be broken. Could you investigate this? I have sent an email to [email protected].
