Which nbn Providers Require Notice before Leaving

I have never given leaving advice to an NBN provider before moving to another one, but have heard some require this or will charge you a further month etc if you don't.

Without scouring all the fine print, can anyone point out those that do, and if this has to be done verbally or via email.

    Exetel, Superloop.

    Name and shame em!

  • also curious, anyone have experience with telling them you're leaving and then not leaving? will your net be disconnected?

  • Leaptel do (30 days).

  • TPG is another. I haven't left yet, though. Called them up last year and was offered a discount for 12 months if I stayed. Rinsed and repeated this year.

    • Internode (a TPG company) were hilarious… Called up to cancel as moving to a same speed plan for $20 less per month they offered… $20 less per month but for their slowest speed plan.

      • Lol. At least my speed remained the same. (Not that 50/20 is anything to write home about. I'm on FTTN, and whilst I could pay the extra for 100/20, I'd only get ~70/20, so it's hardly worth it.)

  • Flip NBN is another one… plus they charge you and "admin fee" for refunds- beware!

  • Leaptel requries 3 days before end of month, on their monthly accounts.

  • Wouldn’t all providers require you tell them you’re leaving?

    • Nope.

The technology allows for immediate disconnection, so once another provider activates on that line, the old connection is dead. Switching takes minutes.

Some ISPs do shenanigans to make it inconvenient for you to switch.

      Examples are:
      Superloop
      Exetel
      TPG/iinet/internode
      Pentanet

  • Arctel

  • The better question is which ones don't so you can exclusively churn with them. Aussie Broadband doesn't. They're the third highest rated ISP on this poll despite the ones above it Leaptel and Superloop requiring 30 day notice. ABB charges me $95/month for 500/50, if I switched to Superloop for the next 6 months, it would be only $69/month for me. That's a huge saving of $26/month yet I refuse to churn to them for that reason amongst others.

    • If paying full rates, Buddy might be a better option than ABB. Same company, just no phone support.

    • I dont really understand your logic.

If you are paying normal price, for current service, which it appears you are. Switching to one of those cheaper, but 30 day quit plans, saves money.

30 days before the end of the cheaper rates, just notify them you are cancelling. A few days before 30 days are up, you activate your new( eg AB) provider.

Only issue I can see is if you want a another special deal and that ends before you want to switch.

If there are no special deals you will still be paying the same price as you are now, but have gained the 6 months of cheaper prices.

Or am I missing something, other than you making a statement about the disconnect fee.

When changing provider they will ask for your AVC number. Once the new provider has this and ports your service, the previous provider can't charge you for a service they no longer own. They are able to charge for the month but not beyond.
TIO complaint will make the provider squirm as 30 days notice in writing is not required.
