What's the NBN provider of choice for OzBargainers in 2025?

There are many factors when considering your home broadband provider. For example,

  1. Price (obviously the number one considerations on OzBargain)

  5. New signup promotions
  6. etc

When all things combined, what would be your NBN provider of choice? Help the other OzBargainers out by voting up your preference and telling us why.

More- only because I get $40 a month off for 3 years. Works well enough.

    So 50/20 is $54 a month.

    • +2

      CommBank home loan ?

      • +1

        Yello

        (yes)

    • I'm with More, 100/20 for $59 and it's increasing to 500/50 in September

  • +13

    Definitely not MATE

Oh, I have had a run in with this mob as well… Absolutely disgusting mob of clowns to deal with. Ended up having to put in a complaint with the TIO over their antics and they refused to refund me with the excuse "we now need your funds to pay for the TIO enquiry".

I had a working internet connection with Telstra and decided to give MATE a try after reading reviews…
2 weeks later, no internet. Asked for a refund, no refund. Blamed it on NBN Co.
2 more weeks later, finally got connected, paid for 100/20, was getting 40/10 speeds. They blamed my router.
Asked for a refund of month I could not connect. They said no, because not their fault.
Called TIO and logged a complaint. Said they were going to refund, but now cant because they have to pay TIO.
Said if I got on "Product Review" and left a "positive" review, they would refund 50% (other 50% to pay for TIO enquiry)
Moved to AussieBB, was connected in less than 10 mins, speeds were 100/20 right off the bat. Same router.

A majority (if not all) of their "reviews" are fake. They pay people to make these comments, they induce people to make positive comments to get anything done and they threaten users who dont remove their bad review or change it to a good one that they will do nothing to help them with their issue.

      • +5

Should report all that to (where applicable) the TIO, OFT and ACCC - especially that 50% refund for a positive review, and the "no refund because it wasn't our fault"?

It's like me taking a faulty washing machine back to the Good Guys and them refusing to refund because it wasn't "their fault" that the washer was faulty… #hol'up

    • Mate phone support is also quite bad. 30+ minute hold times every time I call them. Incorrect information given to me 50% of the time

    • Hanging out to switch out at end of my billing cycle. Have never had so many dropouts with any other provider.

      • I am with Mate, had not had a problem till I upgraded to FTTP in the last 30 days (whilst main computer was on) I have logged 94 Disconnects. When I contacted their help line, they said I have been connected since installation with no dropouts - yeah right. I sent them the logs, but still no joy. I wonder how many dropouts there have been while the computer was off, which have affected the Wi-Fi security cameras.

Moved from Leaptel to Exetel about a month ago and found my speeds improved. Leaptel were excellent in terms of support, but they were a bit too slow in dropping their pricing (and I had hit 6 months and they moved me to $140 for 500/200, $80 for 500/100 was a no brainer).

Was really surprised that I got better speeds on Exetel, I downloaded an actual linux iso the other night (seriously!) and was getting a smidge over 50MB/s. Never saw that in terms of real world usage with Leaptel.

    • Agree re pricing

  • I am a basic user, with Leaptel, no problem so far. Price is also reasonable, of course I will churn if there is a promotional price

    Suggested Neptune

For me, Neptune Internet was the best choice because it includes a unique IP address, not using CGNAT. So things like CCTV camera systems can be accessed remotely. It is decent value at $85/month for 500/50.

    • I access my CCTV via the phone app I dont need to go thru these CGNAT or unique IP address, does that mean your CCTV is Uniden or Swann the coaxial cable ones… old School.. Mine is reolink with POE cameras and 2TB NVR I can access it from anywhere in the world.

      • I don't know how Reolink works, but when I first signed up to the internet here my ISP at that time used CGNAT for all new connections and I could not access the CCTV remotely. I called up and told them I wanted to opt-out of CGNAT, they did their thing, and then the CCTV remote access worked well. So since then I have always avoided CGNAT.

CGNAT sucks if you sail the seas.

      • Why?

        • I don't know why it sucks for Gunther but it is super annoying if you want to access a Plex or Jellyfin server remotely

      • I had issues with my VoIP service and called Superloop to remove CGNAT and problem solved. It's added by default.

      • if anything, it would make you slightly harder to trace

    • Is a dedicated IP address the only way to access security cameras remotely?

      • +1

Not if you have cloud service with your cams providers.

You can also setup free Tailscale with subnet router on your devices if you have issues accessing home with CGNAT. Some ISP charges a fee for static IP.

Best of them is Southern Phone unless you are gamer, 2 x free modems, $65 for 1 year for 100/20mbps, with $100 voucher if you stay connected until September and fee upgrade to NBN 500/50mbps by 14th September for free at $65 existing plan. Beat that and tell me where to put my money.

    • I can only see 1 free modem offer, $65/month for 12 month 100/20. Where did you get that offer please?

    • +1

That is a good deal. Why do you say "unless you are a gamer"? Is the latency high?

    • What is the latency time outside of Sydney. Are they really good anywhere else

    • -4

"fee upgrade to NBN 500/50mbps by 14th September for free"

      What does this mean?

And its only good as long as your NBN connection supports it..

Too bad for all those people living in apartments with FTTC connection

      And this ???
      2 x free modems
You can only use one modem per connection!

    • Yeah but optus …

    Suggested Buddy Telco

I've had a great experience with Buddy Telco, making use of the first month free deal. Support has been flawless, much much less painful than having to deal with Superloop. Speeds are also a little better than Superloop (on gigabit plan), and latency seems lower in many online games especially for overseas servers.

Price is the only downside, but it's not terrible at full price.

  • +2

Superloop with their 30 day cancellation fee.. how are they coming second?

    • The way around Superloop 30 day cancellation policy is tell them you will lodge a complaint with TIO. But also remember that all billing is per month so unless you know you are changing provider, you will not get a refund for unused days. Hope this helps.

      • Yeah with such 'locking in' how are they coming 2nd?

        • And now the (profanity) have destroyed Exetel as well :(

  • I dont get these poll questions? What makes it the best ? More votes? If that the case isn't TPG would be the best since they got more customers?

    • You can take anything into consideration, customer service, uptime, speed tests, cost, its entirely up to you.

I don't think the amount of customers factors at all.

      • Well we aren't comparing anything. Its more like subset of Ozb like AB in general lol

  • Suggested Moose Mobile

    Moose NBN

    • Surprised this flying under the radar. I have been with them as long as Superloop implemented the 30 day cancellation. Just smooth sailing with Moose.

      • Agreed … great price, free cgnat opt-out for sticky IP. Not sure why more people aren't with them. PS, why didn't you vote for them in the poll? :)

    • I’m with Swoop, basically the same company. Have been with them since Duperloop increases their prices earlier this year. So far so good, not looking back. Any provider with 30 days notice to disconnect should be BANNED from the poll.

  • Does anyone know if the speed boost feature in Superloop will deliver 500 mbps from 15 sept? Currently takes my 50 to a 100.

    • It remains to be seen what happens to the included monthly speed boosts.

Does Superloop keep it the same or do they charge $1/day like they do at Exetel or something else?

  • +2

I'm very surprised TPG/iiNet got 2 votes… They are so bad.
    Launtel FTW!

    • -2

They are good if you don't need to talk to customer service. To be honest TPG customer service isnt bad.

    Suggested It's Fubar

    Fubar

  • This survey is not a statistically valid way of determining "best". What it measures is a quite different metric, "most popular", which is largely just a measure of how many customers the product has for a variety of reasons. The fact that all these companies are just retailers selling the same underlying product supplied to them by a single organisation, and that customers only have one of them, so they have little experience of alternatives, just makes it more pointless.

To determine best you would solicit scores from people who had experienced the product, average the scores, and the best would be the one with the highest average score.

    • They're not selling the same product though. Only the part from your house to the point of presence is the same. Each retailer still has to provide connectivity to the rest of the internet which can vary greatly. Some have excellent international speeds and pings and some very much do not. They also offer the different combinations of IP addresses.

  • Leaptel is the first ISP I've used that that I haven't had an issue with.

I'm really in 2 minds whether I should churn regularly for discounts.

  • Price (obviously the number one considerations on OzBargain)

No. It should actually be TCO!

  • +1

horrendous that TPG can even be an option. I am suffering through them at the moment, only on them due to access to transact network, which now my discounted period is over I am getting the hell off iinet next week, I doubt there is a worse ISP out there. I miss the days of when I had launtel NBN FTH. I had launtel for 5+ years, I think I needed to contact them once. had iinet for just on 12 months have had to contact them half a dozen times and that experience included:
    * moron tech that didn't even know the difference between a router and a modem
    * 2 instances of, oh we are just doing maintenance, someone should have told you.
    * 2 outages of no explanation but something they had to fix back end.
    * 1 instance of the firmware turning my connection into unusable shit for 2 weeks (though in fairness my understanding was that was a vision issue, still had to look at other ISP status pages to get info on the ongoing issue as iinet don't tell you anything)

outages have ranged from 1 hour to 8 hours.

  • I still use internode

    Suggested Flip TV

FLIPTV. Just the basic 25/8 for ongoing $49.90/mo

  • Suggested Siptalk

Siptalk - exceptional customer service, reliable & consistant performance. Competitive daily pricing, enabling speed tier changes & pause in service. Importantly pro-active OzBargainers.

  • I voted for ABB. They're neck and neck with Superloop on the poll as of now. While Superloop is cheaper and has the amazing Speed Boost feature, here's why I chose ABB:

    • ABB exclusively has no contract, some Superloop plans do.
    • ABB has no notice period, Superloop has 30 days.
    • ABB Live Chat is exclusively Australia based, Superloop is not.
    • ABB Live Chat connects you to a person first, Superloop is AI.
    • ABB Live Chat has a live queue, Superloop does not.
    • ABB Live Chat has an accurate wait time, Superloop does not.

Congratulations to Leaptel for winning but they seriously need to revamp their web design, both ABB and Superloop have them beat on that.
