  • Sorry wrong promo code, fixed now. It's FRIYAY, not FRIDAY.

    • -1

I still can't unsee the FRIDAY tho

  • What can you do with the few cents left in the card

    • +3

Split payment, but personally under $0.50 left I just chuck it.

Macca's $0.50 ice cream, Bakers Delight $1 bread rolls I often use for the cards with smaller amounts.

      • +1

Isn’t Maccas not included in these cards?

Macca's falls into the last category.

          • @hamza23: Ah, something must’ve changed since last time this was issued lmao

  • -2

I reckon there will be 20% off discounted restaurant gift cards for the upcoming black friday sale. Might not be the same gift card OP has referenced but definitely like the Best Restaurants gift card etc

    • Isn't the choice one here more versatile? Less restrictions? I've only just found these cards a few months ago - neat way to just casually save 10% off usual food stuff

    • +4

Likely for best restaurant card, but you can only use it at selected restaurants (and normally fancy ones). This card can be used at any restaurants and fast food. Goodfood can be used for restaurants only, and not fast food. Full details here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/gift_card_deals_retailer_f…

      • Yep, good point - Best Restaurants is usually for the fancier restaurants - have used it at 6head a couple times to save a few quid.

        • Does this one not work for the fancier restaurants? Or do fine dining establishments have yet another different MCC?

          • @vawiyoci: I believe it does work for fancier restaurants; it's just Best Restaurants are restricted to fancier restaurants. There is nothing to do with this card.

            • @brisdaz: Ah right that makes sense. Oh well already expired anyway.

          • +3

@vawiyoci: The gift cards work differently.

            • Best Restaurants gift cards only work at specific restaurants that have specifically agreed to accept them, and you need to present the barcode and provide a PIN to redeem the gift card. These effectively function more like Coles Group & Myer gift cards or Everyday WISH gift cards.

            • The gift card in this deal is a prepaid Visa gift card that only works at selected MCCs. There is no specific MCC for fine dining establishments, so I would expect those to be assigned MCC 5812.

            • +1

@WookieMonster: Cheers that's very informative. Haven't kept up with gift cards so interesting to find out that it works that widely now. Was still stuck on the mindset that you had to buy GC specific to one chain group etc.

      • +2

This card can be used at any restaurants and fast food

Note however that Restaurant Choice is rejected with many apps/online use, e.g. it's not accepted when I try to use for Macca's/Hungry Jack's/KFC apps. TCN Restaurant is accepted through those apps though, plus being much simpler to check balances with the TCN app rather than having to enter card details on RC site, so I much prefer TCN.

        • Works fine via Apple Pay on Macca's/HJ/KFC apps. Sounds like an Android user issue.

          • @desktopzero: Ah perhaps, yeah even with Google Pay they're rejected/can't be selected as payment method.

            • @MiscOzB: Yep it's annoying Restaurant choice isn't accepted on Google pay for a few food apps!

      • Does it work for online orders as well?

Ie either directly with the fast food

        Or

With one of the delivery partners like doordash

        • Yes they work on online orders/payment in restaurants, or through delivery apps, eg. menulog/ubereats/doordash. It even works at food trucks, bubble tea shops, and cafe.

    • +1

This sh!ts all over best restaurant gc

    • I have never seen this

  • This can be used at restaurants who accept VISA? Didn't seem to find much info on the website.

    • +1

Basically any restaurant where you can tap

    • +2

Yes, assuming their merchant code is correct, @WookieMonster added the table into the description now.

    • +3

      Most, but not all.

      It depends on two factors:

      1. Whether the restaurant uses a Merchant Category Code that is permitted on the gift card. The table I added to the bottom of the deal description is the official permitted list from the gift card product website, but OP and a few other OzBargainers have also reported this gift card to work at merchants assigned as Bakeries (MCC 5462). Additionally, Blackhawk Network - the gift card product owner - also blocks a small number of merchants that use one of the permitted MCCs (e.g. ShopBack).

      2. Whether the merchant chooses to accept prepaid Visa gift cards. This is usually only an issue if you are paying online, as I tend to find prepaid Visa gift cards are usually rejected for online transactions for security reasons.

I go into this in more detail in this FAQ if you are interested in learning more.

      • @WookieMonster - your FAQ says the following about TCN Good Food - "There have been conflicting reports as to whether this gift card works at merchants using MCCs 5812 and 5813 that are not listed on the Good Food website"

where is this report from? GCDB says that this should work at MCCs uisng 5812 & 5813 @ https://gcdb.com.au/gc/tcn-good-food/

        • +1

It was something I wrote in mid-2024 after seeing a number of earlier reports about the physical TCN Good Food gift card not working at some merchants where it should work. This comment has links to some of those examples. That quote is only against the physical eftpos version, because the digital Mastercard version has (AFAIK) always worked at merchants using MCC 5812 and 5813 not listed on the Good Food website.

Having thought about it a bit, I will remove that quote from the table, because:

          • There have been a number of physical TCN Good Food gift card deals since mid-2024 and I do not recall seeing any more complaints about the physical version.

          • I have since run into issues where a restaurant will not accept a physical prepaid eftpos gift card - even open-loop ones, such as TCN eftpos gift cards or Westfield eftpos gift cards - but will accept a physical Restaurant Choice (Visa) gift card. (That could explain some of the previous complaints.)

          • Both VantageXL - the person who runs GCDB - and tonester - the other Power User I had a debate with in mid-2024 on this topic - are interpreting the gift card terms differently to me.

  • Can this card be linked to EatClub app?

    • +2

      MCC

EatClub | 5812 | Eating Places, Restaurants | 26 October 2023 | This MCC was reported on purchases through the EatClub Pay card |

      Should be good.

Edit: Recent confirmation. Updated wiki date.

    • Yes, I have linked it and used it also.

    • yes

    • yes

      • Are The Cray restaurants in Perth any good or just overpriced overhyped seafood?

  • Just bought 4x $300 cards. The first one added to my Apple wallet easily enough. The others won't add. Instead, after inputting all details, there is a pop-up saying that Apple wallet doesn't support this sort of card. Weird. Hopefully only a temporary glitch but if it isn't, using these cards will be very annoying.

    • you got blocked on your device. dont add any blackhawk gift card for the next 2 weeks or so, then try again. alternatively you can add it on other devices.

      • Really??? Any idea why that might happen?

        • +1

Kinda random, but normally because adding and erasing cards too frequently. I had a card that couldnt be added to my phone for 6 months. Dont get tempted to add before 2 weeks, because it resets the "timer" again. This is just a theory by some of us who had a similar issue. I contacted both apple and blackhawk in the past, and none of them knew what to do.

          • @pygym: No need to wait 2 weeks, happened to me and they said 24h is enough, tried myself and it worked. Apparently it has to do with Apple itself not Blackhawk when you try to add multiple cards in a sort period of time.

            • @mauza: maybe theyve fixed it. this was back in 2023. couldnt register one card for 6 months, and other black hawk issued cards for a good 3 weeks. now i just avoid registering and deleting a card on the same day, and never had issue since.

    • +2

This is Blackhawk’s (poor) attempt at preventing fraud/hacking. You can only add 1 card to your Apple Pay per 24 hours (maybe shorter but I didn’t want to try too quickly and risk triggering the block again and waiting another X hours).

      • oh GFTO

        that is RIDICULOUS

must be a new thing - I have added multiple cards at once previously

        • Yeah this started a couple of months ago, around mid/late Sep I think.

          • @cynix: Thanks for your replies - very helpful! cheers

        • The cherry on top is that this affects multiple different types of gift cards owned by Blackhawk Network. For example:

          • I have run into this issue with Category Choice Groceries gift cards for the last few months.

          • Other people have recently run into this issue with 7-Eleven digital gift cards.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Yay I got linked. Yeah it seems that they have a 24 hour cooldown on all cards across the Blackhawk Network. Tested just now.

i.e. You cannot add a 7-Eleven card (likely for 24 hours) after adding this restaurant gift card.

            • @ATangk: incorrect, I added 2 cards that I bought one after other - but on Google Pay…so maybe it is an Apple thing blocking?

I have had issues adding cards in the past and it usually adds successfully after a few days though without reaching out to BH

    • Wait 24 hours between adding cards. A bit annoying. On the bright side I noticed apple wallet lets you add/keeps the original physical card information so you can easily check balance without searching for the original gift card link. Can also update balance on the description line should you need to if its an older card or some transactions were made on a physical card, etc.

  • Check other mail folders if you haven't received G almost straight away … Found mine in promotions folder in gmail

  • Is the digital delivery instant? Just bought $300 worth, hoping to use it at lunchtime, but haven't received it yet. I did receive the order confirmation email, though.

    • +1

Mine did come immediately after the order confirmation Giftz<no-reply@giftcardmall.com> 'Your Restaurant Choice eGift Card order' but it might depend if you have an account/are using a new card etc. Also check spam/junk as mentioned above.

      • +1

Eventually got it after 15 mins. All good cheers.

    • +1

      Took me 5 mins

    • bought $300 worth, hoping to use it at lunchtime

      Wow big lunch.

  • I found it very hard to use the last bit of it, any recommendation how to use the last part of it? , end up have a few dollars left.

    • A few dollars is easy. I have a card with exactly 10 cents left.

    • There's a been few places mentioned on OzB that does split card payments so you can use them up - I think Nando's has been mentioned as one, Hungry Jack's another (haven't tried with either myself), personally I've been using mine up at Zarraffa's.

      • +1

Cannot pay the Subway now, what is a shame!

        • What you mean about Subway? Can't use it at all, or can't split bill?

          • @JHoliday: Used it at subway last week (and I tried to get a split payment on one of my other cards but they didn't let me)

      • no more HJ as experienced yesterday, probably it's the store or that manager didn't intend to split.
he said only cash+card now, same as McD.
but looks their eftpos changed (upgraded).

        • That's so annoying!! KFC should still be able to split across cards.

    • I think I split bill at Oporto

      • HJ, GYG, bread delights, will do if the manager lets you, otherwise cash and card at maccas

    • +1

      Grill'd also does split payments.

    • i once paid with 20 gift cards with less than $1 on them

      it was epic

      • HJ i guess lol

        • +1

KFC actually but yes HJ will work too

  • Can you use this for uber eats orders?

    • +1

I haven't tried recently, maybe someone else can confirm; however Uber Eats gift cards are 10% off all the time and you won't have to worry about having left over balances.

    • yes it works

      • can you use a random amount to add to your uber eats balance?

        • nope. you can only use it through apple pay, and not actually adding the card .

  • Fast food is accepted too?

    • Yep.

    • unless the place has an EFTPOS machine from somewhere else not classified as fast food / cafe / restaurant then it won't work regardless

once tried at a cafe and the MCC was a newsagent and then another a sporting goods store

  • +1

My second order cannot go through. Anyone on the same boat and know how to get around it?

    • Use different email address.

    • +1

Same here. Order first 300 and payment works fine. And second 300 keeps failing on transaction unsuccessful.

Looking at other threads, might be Blackhawk’s (poor) attempt at preventing fraud/hacking as well?

Tried with different email address and card, and still same error. Give up now.

      • I did multiple transactions fine. Using G Pay.

  • Can’t purchase

  • Does anyone know how to solve when I try to add it to apple pay it promotes invalid card?? I tried it on 4 devices, one of them brand new, but they all prompted invalid card

    • Same but it does work at my husband’s phone

      • So it worked after I changed my icloud id to a different one

        • So you change to different icloud id and return back to your original id?

  • "You can not use this code any more"

    Looks like it's done

    • +1

Wonder if it hit 350k limit or if it just hit a soft daily limit.

    • +1

Damn it I thought too long.

      • Same

      • Same. Next time should strictly abide with BUY NOW THINK LATER.

  • @Hamza I presume you got the email from giftz? What time (in AEST preferably, or are you the member in the middle half of Australia, thus different time zone?) did you or anyone else get it?

    • +1

I received it at 943am AEST / Brisbane time.

Wish this came earlier, I had to resort to 3% and 7% discounts. Then I pondered too much on this 10% and it is OOS
