Without sounding negative, bit worried about the workstations at your medical centre not having proper backup to begin with….

Edit: decent price though. Usb2 only?

    • +1

I wonder what would need backing up on the workstations, since nearly everything would be stored on a centralised, secure and already backed up network server.

      • +1

Exactly, The server is already being backed up and we needed the local files on workstations to be saved as well, nothing too major just an extra option.

        USB 3.0

        • +2

Yes sorry no USB, Just plug it in the router and its automatically detected, can be accessed via iphone/ipad app or remotely via https://www.wd2go.com/

    • +2

It's not usb external drive but a NAS by gigabyte ethernet,
$169 is not bad for a 3tb one, my local DSE had it for $269 before but recently sold the last one. I bought my 2tb for $169 and it is going well, I can get a writing speed at constant 40-50 MBps.

      • +2

Is that with computers connected via Ethernet or WiFi? With WiFi I get only about 3Mbps… :-(

        • +1

          Gigabyte Ethernet.

      • +6

Gigabyte Ethernet? I was under the impression that it's 'Gigabit'.

      • +1

I wonder what transfer speeds would be if both computers transferring had SSDs?

        • +1

Probably the same. I'd imagine the connection would bottleneck the transfer before the HDD would. Happy to be proven wrong, though.

    • Yeah these are the Medical Centres that get Hacked by that Russian syndicate in the News last month.

  • +2

Can you please upload reciept for pricematching

  • +6

"Backing up at the medical centre"……….. Code for sheizer p@rn?

  • +1

    That's a big LOL!

  • Great price but after the WD cash back fiasco I will NEVER be buying their products again.

    • What do you mean fiasco? Did you receive your cashback?

    • +2

I thought all cash backs were fiasco's!

  • +1

This seems to be a pretty good unit, with good reviews, and good transfer speeds (for its level):

Also, if you're into this sort of thing, can be hacked to open up other possibilities:

Hmm, so do I get this for my short term woes, or bite the bullet and set up an N40L…

    • I remember from previous posts on ozb that some WD retail nas drives had issues with drivers and dead drives?

is this one of them? scared me off from buying previously

  • +1

Just FYI, the wd2go is pretty much useless, it's far too slow to be any bit useful, the nas doesn't have a recycle bin so so move any file (preferably something you don't need, eg favourites or my games) from c:/user/(username)/anyfile from this location to the nas and you'll get a recycle bin. Other than that, the drive is pretty useful and a good price!

  • +2

Damn, i bought one on special at jb hifi for $199 2 weeks ago but having said that it is a great unit and $169 is a good price

  • anyone been able to confirm this is at other DSE stores or just a once off.

    • +2

if it's available it should be same price across the board. Went to one this morning but it none available

  • +1

    Which store?
I have the Seagate 3tb Network storage and they are great.

  • -5

    Insufficient stock

    • +2

There is some minimal stock at limited DSE stores, however if distance is an issue, several people (including myself) are successfully performing OfficeWorks price matches at any store near you!

If you are Metro Sydney, Officeworks price match against Dick Smith, Chullora.

  • +1

Any chance of a clearer picture, as the JB guy wouldn't price match as it looks like it expires on 2/2/13 according to the pic.

    • +2

it's very clear on the pic 2/3/2013

    • +1

I don't think the picture could get any bigger/clearer.. any bigger and I'd be negging for using up too much bandwidth (:P no not really).

      • +2

My apologies. I had grabbed it to my dropbox and seems it shrunk the image in the process.

Price matched and all happy. TY OP.

  • Not in Perth :(

  • I just checked in the parramatta store but non left.
The store attendant showed me there was -
    one in Campbelltown and
    two in Dubbo

  • +1

Just bought one of these from OW QV, they price beat DSE by 5%. Pretty good value IMO for a simple NAS unit, considering an internal drive alone will set you back about the same price.

  • +2

Officeworks belconnen (ACT) just price matched it for me + 5% NQA - I just showed them the picture that the OP posted. There was one left on the shelf. Used ING orange paywave to buy gift cards so total $152. Thanks OP.

    • +2

If possible, can you please send me a copy of your office works receipt?

I am having a hard time negotiating with staff at my local store.

      Thank you.

    • Hi. Went to Belconen OW as well as the city OW, both did not match the price, because they claimed they could not find it in DSE website.

How did u get it? Thanks for sharing.

  • +3

Officeworks at Clarence St, Sydney (NSW) priced matched it for me + 5% off (after 20 minutes of mucking around with them looking up online prices, calling stores, etc.). I paid $160.55.

I took the last new looking box:
    http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/electronics/detai…

However there was still one old looking box at midday today:
    http://images.anandtech.com/doci/4952/mybook_box.JPG

There is no stock left at Officeworks in North Sydney.

Dick Smith does not advertise this price on their website, and there is only one of these HDD's for sale at Dick Smith Warehouse @ Chullora. You can continue to Officeworks price match against this one store until someone takes the DSE last clearance item in metro Sydney!

BTW - I already have one of these 3TB HDD's at home, this will be my 2nd one. I highly recommend them, but beware, there is no off button! If you are happy leaving it on all the time, go for it! You are meant to shut it down via the webpage. It draws 10 watts of power when on, and 4 watts of power if you have it in stand by mode. I have never seen it in standby mode yet, however this can be achieved by turning off all smarts (such as remote access, Twonky Media Server, etc).

    Good luck :)

  • +3

can someone please post an office works receipts? thanks in advance =]

  • Any one had any luck with this in Melbourne?

    • Nope!!! Called 3 stores already.

    • +1

worked for me at Ferntree gully OW

  • +3

Was at DSE at helensvale Qld today and they had a couple of BlackArmor 220 NAS for $199. 2 bay with 2x1tb drives. Seemed good enough price just for the two drives?? Any thoughts on these?

Maybe DSE is clearing out these kinds of products? Or maybe just trying to get some cash in the til.

  • +1

Careful when buying the WD My Book range, as many have had serious issues with data recovery with these things. Just from what I've read from Google.

  • So no one has a receipt that they can share? Cheers.

  • I tried going to ow and price match the dse chullora. they didn't have any in stock so ow wouldn't price match me. looks like unless someone posts and ow receipt, ow won't price match

    • If DSE Chullora has no stock, then this deal is no longer valid in Sydney anymore (I confirmed yesterday at DSE North Sydney that Chullora had the last remaining item in metro-Sydney).

Officeworks beats other stores advertised prices at the time of purchase. There is no use anyone providing a receipt for a yesterday price match, if the DSE stock is no longer available to price match against. Remember - this stock isn't even advertised on the DSE website. They aren't going to give you a historical price match as a gesture of good will, they are not a charity.

You can just about count this deal as expired.

Your best bet by far is to walk into a JB HiFi store and mention they had it on special for $199 a few week ago, and depending on the salesman, you should get your way. This $199 price is still cheaper than anything on staticice.com.au (or con a JB HiFi salesman to price match $169 if you are lucky as per the post below)

  • +2

Picked up one yesterday at JB via price match from the photo. Set it up last night. Went back today and grabbed another one, as was impressed with the ease of setup, and connectivity. I got the same guy, so he just price matched based on the pic once more. Their retail price is $245. Seems they have the 4Tb models, hence the clearance.

    • any chance you can post a copy of your receipt and maybe can get the same deal at another JB? thanks

    • What JB if you don't mind me asking?

  • Went to OW - Windsor QLD and got turned down: " It's not advertised on website…", "We are not price matching at this time"… I reckon putting price tag on the shelf is another mean of advertising.

  • After spending a couple of hours arguing with the store manager then head office, OW finally agreed to price match DSE and give me the 5% discount. Their terms and conditions state they will not price match clearance items and the item has to be in stock.
I spent 30-45 mins alone with head of marketing for office works and she would not price match. She finally gave in to get me off the phone I think.
Was it worth it the end? I don't know for sure, but one things is certain, I will make sure other stores like DSE have stock before I get OW to price match again, because they actually do ring the stores to check.

  • I tried to get OW Blacktown to match based on Campbeltown DSE showing 1 in system, yet when I called DSE they said they could not find it.
OW would't give it to me based on pic, said they had to call DSE, they will do so in the morning and find there is no real stock, so no price match, pitty, as I planned on posting a receipt to help all others.

May try JB on Thursday, but otherwise may just look at a twin to four bay NAS to use my existing drives

    • Thanks for the receipt tomsco :D

LONG story follows from WA. Skip if not interested in long stories. ;)

Went to my local OW and they didn't have stock so that was the end of that. The salesman did, however, point me to a store that did have stock. It was 20 minutes out of my way home :(

Went there and got one off the shelf, there was another but in a different looking box but I took the one in the receipt print.

Grabbed a salesman and asked him if he could match the receipt. I expected to be knocked back (NSW receipt in WA!?) but he said he would have to check that the original store (DSE) still had stock.

      Uh! Oh!

He did 3 searches of DSE and couldn't find the item. (as I expected and had already checked).

He said he couldn't find the item so would have to ring DSE. I good naturedly pointed out that it WAS an OW receipt and surely they had already done all the checks!?

He too, good naturedly, said he had to follow procedures and disappeared from sight.

I thought he was going to find that, not only, DSE didn't have any stock AND but that it was a clearance item too…. :(

      I thought "I tried" :)

He re-appeared and said "We can do that" :D

      Yeah!

Just out of interest, the 3Tb was originally $279 AND the 4Tb was the SAME price ($279). I asked if he could do the 4Tb as it was the same price but he said "No it had to be the identical item". Fair enough. :D

    • Sorry, accidentally negged your comment. +1 from me. :)

    • Oh yeah! 10% off the price on the receipt?

      • OW offers 5% price beat! Not 10%. This changed a while ago.

      • OW purchase using another OW receipt, I don't imagine any further discounts apply?

Anyway, I was just happy they matched the price under the circumstances :)

  • +1

Just got one from ow coburg, they were a bit reluctant to provide it , but I had checked ow in qv first who are out if stock but will have some on the 25th. Ow highpoint has 11 in stock at the time of this post

    • Damn it!! I was about to go to coburg in 10 mins!

  • +1

if anyone still wants to get one of these in SE Melb. I went to OW in Ferntree Gully, showed the guy the DSE price and the Epping OW receipt, he called Epping, they couldn't help. Asked his manager and was approved shortly after.

    Thanks OP
