Heatermate Plug-in Electronic Thermostat $38 + $8 Delivery

Heatermate Plug-in Electronic Thermostat
Heatermate is an Australian innovation that helps you manage your heating AND cooling costs via a simple to use, electronic digital thermostat. No wiring required - simply plug your heater or air-conditioner* into Heatermate.
In cold winter months, Heatermate is used in Heating Mode to precisely control your room temperature with any non-thermostat controlled electric heater (column, bar, radiant or fan heater), whereas over hot summer months Heatermate can be easily switched to Cooling Mode to provide the required room temperature control accuracy for your non-digitally controlled air-conditioning unit.
Since every degree of unnecessary heating or cooling adds around 10% to your energy bills, the precise digital room temperature control offered by Heatermate will help you to cut your heating and cooling costs, while at the same time providing the comfort of stable room temperature irrespective of the changing weather conditions and seasons.
* Suitable for heaters and air-conditioning units that automatically restart after power reconnection.

Err this seems stupid. Any wall AC compressor is not supposed to switch on and off like that. It can cause damage.

    • Don't be stupid. Any wall A/C compressor has it's own thermostat. The OP says any 'Non-thermostat controlled' devices

      • It actually states

        "non-digitally controlled"

which most wall air cons are not.

    • +1

It's not just for ACs… There are plenty of heaters & fans that don't have thermostat controls.

      • +1

Anyone that buys the cheapest heater/cooler out there isn't going to care about power consumption, let alone spend $40 in trying to rectify it

        • +1

IMO it's less about power consumption and more about maintaining a consistent temperature. I don't have any need for this device atm, but at my old house I regularly used a small heater I had and having a thermostat like this might have been useful.

        • So this is a good deal then?

    • +1

Was that the only reason to neg? I agree this could cause damage to AC but I think this is quite useful for heater.

      • its also only 5% off

      • +2

I think this is quite useful for heater.

wouldnt you find yourself MUCH better off by spending the extra $46 on a better more efficient heater in the first place?

        • +3

The thermostat on most heaters is just a simple turn knob so you have no idea what temperature it will trigger on/off, but with this plug can actually set the room temperature you want thus I think useful.
And I didn't say it is cheap that's why I did not up vote it. If this is $10 I would get it.

  • Is 5% off a bargain?

    • 15% off cables wasn't yesterday.

    • Well, it's cheaper than it was. A better question is whether the same thing can be found cheaper elsewhere.

      • +1

so no consistency in the voting? odd for OZB

        • I'm not sure what deal you're referring to, but again, could those cables be found cheaper elsewhere?

  • +4

woohooo! $2 off the $40 rrp!

    • buy a Electronic Thermostat and get a free cheeseburger!

  • +2

This is not a deal regardless if it has a use or not :-P

  • +1

WAIT WAIT WAIT. If you buy TWO of these, and connect one to a cooler in cool mode, and one to a heater in heat mode, you'll get super full all-year-round climate control!

  • +1

Cheaper to buy a new heater with thermostat included.

    • As nbn said most heaters do not have actual temperatures on their thermostats so it's trial and error to figure out what temperature they are actually heating to.

Edit: that said this "deal" seems very expensive to me.

  • +1

sounds like : powdered water, Instructions - just add water.

  • These are a good idea for certain applications, but to say this is a bargain is a bit silly when you can get similar controllers of eBay for around $10 (may not be the same quality)

  • There is no reference on the Maximum Watt we can put, this is important to know because heaters will use a lot of power and we don't want to burn that thermostat

  • Where does this sense temp from? If there's an external probe I'd be tempted to get one for a DIY sous vide. Just add a slow cooker.

Either way , not a bargain. 5% off. Pffffftt

    • Couldn't you do that for about the same price with a pot and a cheap inductive cook top?
