Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 $195 @ Harvey Norman Thomastown (VIC)

80

Hi, Ozbargainer.

This is my first post so if this is not kinda deal you guys looking for please let me know.

Saw this at Harvey Norman Thomastown (VIC). They have about 6 left. Not the best deal but it's unlock and outright so no hassle with unlocking and branded software. They are in digital camera glass cabinet (not with other outright phones…weird)

not a deal compare to HTC Velocity $199 in Dicksmith and Kmart

    • +1

yeah, this phone is 3 year old and its specs is lower in any aspect compared to the Velocity, except its thickness. But because it's your first post, I'm not gonna neg you, :D. Should be for $95

  • +2

I got the HTC Velocity 4G from KMart Moonee Ponds, Last one. Agree with ccwwayne, will choose HTC over this anyday. And YES it should be only $95.

      waves hand

this is not the deal we are looking for

This isn't the droid we're looking for.
        FTFY

    • then why did you vote+ for this?

  • I'm the same as above in regards to the phone itself, but i think if you want the specific phone then this is a bargain price!

  • They are in digital camera glass cabinet (not with other outright phones…weird)

I presume one of the camera guys is buying all these last thing today and selling them on ebay tonight !

  • tbh i think for $200 its not worth it

  • +1

These still sell for $150 used on ebay, they are still good phones especially with AMOLED screens.

They actually have one of the best audio chips in them and are great as music players. Audiophiles swear by them. so this would be a good ipod touch alternative.

    • +1

The audio out on this is superb in comparison to an ipod. Ive had one for a while now, and w/32GB card in it, it is my ipod. Got wave control app - so its hands free operation - like a jedi boss

      • i might add though its single core (1GHZ) is getting a little dated - and also is a bit slow on some tasks. As long as you use a task killer app, it works fine

little things like this (AMOLED, audio, battery life) you dont really 'notice' on the spec sheet, but its one of the things samsung do quite well compared to cheaper brands.

Very expensive for such an outdated phone. This should be priced at $29.

    • Have you seen the phones you can get for $29??
You're lucky if they come with a camera & colour screen!!!
Would you expect a store to be selling brand new iPhone 3's for $29?? They'd never do that, & this phone is a thousand times better than an iPhone!!

I love this phone, and rooted with Rootbox ROM it outperforms most of my friends newer phones. Not sure it's worth $200 though, as I got it included free in my $30/month plan almost 2 years ago.

    • It's only single core, and single core phones are aplenty for less than $200 bucks.

Dual core phones like HTC Velo, Xperia U and Huawei G330 can be had for $200-$220 if you know where to buy.

  • FWIW,this phone only supports HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100. So no good on Telstra NextG, Kogan, Voda's 850 network (will still work on Voda's old network).

Quite limited in network choice …

    • Um, by Telstra's NextG are you referring to their 3G or 4G? Because it does work on their 3G…that's why they were offering it 2 years ago at $10 a month extra on a $59 plan….
This phone might not work on the fail networks you listed (lack of coverage anyone??) but it performs brilliantly on Optus!!

      • On Telstra, NextG is 3G 850MHz, 4G is LTE.

They used to have 2 3G networks (much like voda does right now), one on 850 (NextG), and another on 2100MHz (3G .. but not NextG, and not as good as the 850 network). The 2100 one was some sort of sharing agreement with Voda. I don't know the specifics.

As of 31st august last year, they stopped using the 2100 network, so now they only have a single 3G network on 850, which they refer to as NextG, which this phone will not work on.

I don't know what Optus uses, but if it's 900, 1900, or 2100 it will be fine.

TL;DR - this phone used to work on Telstra, not any more ;)

Edit: Some info on Telstra turning off their 2100 network - http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/coverage-networks/ne…
