Update 15 Feb 2013

This is an extension of the previous deal. To save time, I have just edited the previous deal.

Anyhow, it seems that BHP is doing another deal on Deskstar 4TB 7K4000. This time, the HD is cheaper at US$199. If you are shipping direct, it will cost ~ AUD$229.

I can't help myself and got another 2 to fill up the 4 banks on my N54L. :)

Previous deal 14 Feb

BHP seems to be doing a pre-valentine deal on Deskstar 4TB 7K4000 for today only. Probably not as cheap as the previous deal.

However it's still pretty good as I just got 2 - shipped for free to myus.com account. If you are shipping direct, total cost ~ AUD$240.

Cheapest I could find on staticice was AUD$352 - excluding delivery.

The deal expires on 13/02/2013 (US time) - approximately 14/02/2013 AEST.

if you don't mind me asking, what was the freight forwarding cost with myus.com ? did you use any discount or coupon to bring down the freight forwarding cost? I bought 4 of these shipped direct last year. the hp n36l running vmware esxi 5 is happy with 16tb drives inside and booting off the internal usb.

    • What size internal USB are you running and what OS?

      • Depends on what you're using it for. With most linux type distros, you can boot off a 4GB USB stick.

At home, I boot ESX 5.1 on a 4GB stick and store all the images on a zfs vol.

    • I got a premium membership with myus.com when I registered using my Amex card. This gave me %30 discount on international delivery (supposedly).

Anyhow to give you an example on costs, I paid USD $47.46 (~ AUD $45) to ship 5.5 lbs (~2.5kg) to Sydney - which I thought was pretty good. I had 2 pairs of shoes, 3.5" HDs and a couple of other items. The items were delivered by DHL in 3 days - which was even better.

In my case, it works out cheaper to store the items with myus.com before shipping them all in one hit. The only gotcha is myus.com only stores the items for 30 days (?? I think). After this period, you get charged storage fees.

Yes, it is $60 more. Possibly the price of local warranty.

Has anyone used these Deskstar brands before? Are they any good?

    • +1

… probably as good as IBM, Hitachi or Western Digital.

  • Just ordered 4 including shipping just under $900 AUD Thanks for the bargain!

    • Thats 16TB LOL. Why would you need so much space? Lets hope the drives dont fail on you :-)

XBMC Home Theatre PC currently have about 7Tb (6 x 1.5Tb HDD) and out of space. Running on RAID 5 so am protected for a single drive failure.

Edit: here is a thread I did on it for OCAU http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=896144

Hopefully, Cinavia isn't going to render his hard-disk hoarding useless.

    • Wow.. that's impressive. Will be following your thread in the other forum to see how you go with these.

I would have done the same thing except for the fact that I had blown more than $1K recently on N54L, IcyDock 6 Bay & Samsung 830 512GB.

Need to keep away from OZB, especially ShoppingExpress. :)

  • I ordered 4 of these last time they were on special!! :D Worked fine.. Put them in my home server in raid array.. About 1 week later 1 drive died.. Sent back drive to Sydney RMA address so not o/s :D New drive replaced under warranty within about 2 weeks of sending the drive away..

All in all.. not bad and am considering ordering some more ;P

  • I hope these go on sale again soon.. Maybe an Easter Sale???

I bought three when the Black Friday Sale was on but missed the Valentines Day Sale and I need some more..

  • I ordered two of these tonight, price is now US$249.99, at least for me. Still a good saving, thanks!
